double turrets

Recommended Posts

For the far flung future in Tanki...double turrets.

Wouldn't it be cool to have Shaft for long range AND Firebird for close work?  Or Rico and Freeze?

Maybe a special hull to accommodate two turrets.

I realize that this would entail quite a bit of coding, and is VERY different from what we use now...and would also revolutionize the game, but it is still worth thinking about seriously.  Tanki seems to be interested in keeping the game fresh...well, or at the very least in some state of constant change.  Eventually unbalancing turrets to make one stand out over others (like Freeze recently) will get stale.

Introduce the ability to have two turrets at once with some sort of in-battle switch mechanic (maybe even a "Solenoid" supply to initiate a switch).  This idea may sound a bit outrageous but it could be lots of fun and it could sell lots of turrets (normal single turrets would stay the same but doubles would look a bit different in order to fit on the new hulls) lots of double hulls, lots of new switch supplies (or a static micro-gradable switch...which of course would need Batteries to run)...and all would need lots of MUs.

This would have to be very attractive to cash buyers.  It would almost double the value of a serious players garage.

As fun as that could be, it would be a nightmare to try and balance. Not to mention that the controls would have to be more complicated, which is not something Tanki wants to do. We already have the Juggernaut, which does basically have 2 turrets, but it won't ever be a normal feature available to players.

This was a food for thought kind of idea.  I didn't think it would even merit a "declined" since it is just for consideration.  Anyway, I didn't mean that the two turrets could be used at once.  I think there should be some sort of switching mechanism...kind of like an instantaneous garage visit without the garage and only two turrets.

Let's say (just a pipe dream) that you are using a Shaft/Firebird...A ShaftBird.  Shaft is activated and you are laying in wait for someone to cross your sights.  And you wait.  Then it starts to annoy you that the noobs on your team are not trying hard enough to cap that flag.  You type the convenient turret change command (OP in our hypothetical case) and in less than two seconds, Firebird is installed while Shaft is retired.  You then proceed to fry those nasty opposition tanks as you whisk their flag to your base and cap for the winning point.

Incidentally Maf, thanks for not locking this topic. I think it is a fun idea whether it is ever taken seriously or not.  I'd like to see if others have anything to add or change.  Maybe even shove it into the off topic section if nessessary.  Kind of Tanki SciFi.

What about shooting with Shaft when you push Spacebar and shooting with Fire when you push N, for example?

It is fun idea. Find an interesting mix and create a solo mode with it, this will make a stronger concept.

Could be a temporary hencement of your tank when you catch a special drop for example.

Could be a tank for melee only - double fire bird turret or fire and ice turret (freez to immobilize tanks and fire to fry them:D) ; with this tank and turret you should get to specific control/check points spread on the map before a count down. Each time you reach the point and hold hold it for like 5 second you reset the countdown and need to reach a new control check point.

I like the idea of just switching back and forth throughout the game, but your idea is pretty cool too.

Maybe get rid of Magnum and use Magnum's power (without the fiddly range and angle) as a supply drop or garage supply, or even a supply like the new Nuclear drop.  You activate a Mag supply and you get this one Magnum powered, aim-able one-shot from your current turret,

The solo mode is a really good idea.  It would give us an entire new solo mode unlike anything else.  JGN and DM seem very similar to me.  And as a single player mode it would keep the rest of the game as it is without turning Tanki-World upside down.  I think yoou just came up with the most viable way to maybe get doubles onto the drawing board.
