Smoky, the new OP turret?

 Share

Recommended Posts

After the recent Smoky buff which does not seem to be much significant, lots of players suddenly started to use Smoky again. I am really surprised how many players use Smoky now, probably even some Twins and Thunder players (!) switched to Smoky.

Is really the new Smoky so OP or the players just got baited by the buff? Devs even created Smoky XT to make it more popular.

I really do not understand why players suddenly changed their minds and started to use Smoky which is statistically an UP turret with low DPS inable to camp effectively due to 10% weak damage.

well i agree that most of us is using smoky now cause smoke used to be low in critical damage before but for now even in long range its powerful so you should try it too :)

This. Devs just made the gun more balanced (I think), but everyone started using it in hopes that it became OP. Which is understandable, given that devs have a reputation for overbuffing underpowered turrets

Did the weak damage change?

Smoky with PTS alteration + Double Damage + Assault Drone = OP.

You mean that M2 alt which increases both reload and damage by 20%? It does not change DPS but it increases damage per shot so it makes Smoky better when used properly. It makes you kill enemy Thunder at medium range peek-a-boo fight but Thunder still wins at long range even when it is constantly exposed.

I believe it was announced in the new and announcements section

Well Idk, but people keep saying that the weak damage was buffed so Idk.

Anyways patch notes

I will just wait for the wiki page to update and then decide whether Smoky is worth buying/upgrading or not. Edited by GorgoBlesk

The Smoky wiki is updated. And yes, the weak damage was buffed from 10% to 50%.

Oh wow, that sounds like one hell of a buff. So basically Smoky will deal at least 50% of it's normal damage even when shooting across the largest map. Neat.

Plus 1-in-5 (m4) will do more than maximum damage.

Time to blow the dust of the m3 17/20 and slap it on my Titan.  Ricco will now be relegated to mid-range.

Can you imagine the surprised looks when this (with high impact) is used on Monte Carlo?   :D

I hope it isn't. It's my main on all of my accounts because I enjoy using it (and not really interested in anything else) and I liked it being slightly UP.

Often felt outgunned, but I didn't want it to be thrown in to the spotlight with a big buff either. Skilled Striker and Hammer users (not that I'm a skilled Smoky user) probably feel the same.

I doubt you would say that if you were a Warrant Officer.

You mean the OPness known as Keeper kit 10/10? Sure its popular, but any gun is just as OP if its m2 against WOs (Except for maybe striker :P)

+50% min damage +20% max damage. I clearly see the difference when the alt is on and off. And with a critical shot, Smoky can win easily vs Thunder.

I have not played enough to form an opinion. But I was fine with Smoky how it was, and in my opinion the low damage at range is part of made Smoky a turret that required some skill to play. On the other hand doing negligible damage past a certain point was very annoying. I think it would have been better simply to increase the min / max range.

Smoky was good even before "buff", the long range additional damage is good add though.

I would still prefer to get a bit more impact.

It is always fun to flip those high speed flag snatchers who are entering your base over an edge with high speed thinking

"I will get it.  I will get it.... I am flipped"  :D

I’m having fun with Assault Ammo (recent buy) on light hulls, but doing triple-digit damage at longer ranges instead of hardly anything still feels a bit wrong. The critical hits are less critical (as in necessary) now.

I did have a play with my 13/20 M3 Smoky and it was very impressive. I wouldn't call it game breaking powerful, but the difference is certainly noticeable.

I started using it again because I had just bought M2 a few weeks ago, and it has been my favorite turret for a very long time. I simply got behind on upgrading it like a doofus. The buff was just an added reason to start using it again.
