Have you ever looked at the list of top stars hunters and asked yourself "how did they do it?!" After reading this guide you won't have any doubts. Follow the tips and in the next event which includes stars, you may even be in the list!

History

Stars first appeared in the second edition of the "War" event. Stars were created in order to make the War event more organized and easier for the players to understand. After a big success in the War, it was decided to keep the Stars system in the main events in the game such as; Crazy Weekends, Star Week, War: Domination, and other special events like the famous "Tankers Day".

Stars, what are they?

Stars are an in-game feature which are being used for the biggest events in Tanki Online. This system solves many problems in the main events/contest of the game, such as: The way to count kills in Crazy Weekends, to decide which team leads in the War(s) and so on.

How does the Stars system actually work?

Stars are earned by playing in Matchmaking battles, which means you cannot earn stars in private battles. The stars are given to players based on the team they were playing for (winning team or losing team) and their place in the team (1st, 2nd or 3rd for example). The system works like this:

  • 1st and 2nd place on the winning team, 1st place on the losing team and 1st and 2nd places in solo modes (DM and JGR) — 3 stars;
  • 3rd and 4th places on the winning team, 2nd and 3rd places on the losing team and 3rd and 4th places in solo mode (DM and JGR) — 2 stars;
  • Any other place — 1 star, if you have actively played and finished the battle.

The main task of the players is to earn the highest amount of stars during a limited time.

A table which illustrates the stars system:

Battle Groups & Formats

Now you know what stars are and how the system works, we can move on to the actual guide!

It's highly recommended to play in groups with your friends, especially if you can have voice calls; using Skype, Discord or even TeamSpeak is a really good option. As a group, you will have a better chance to win the battle and earn a higher amount of stars. Also, it will be easier for you to communicate with each other.

This is by far one of the most important things you should do in order to earn stars fast; when you play with your friends in a group, play in the CTF format only. You'll be able to finish battles way quicker than battles in other formats and help your friends to get into top places in your team!

If you are alone, play in the Juggernaut or DM formats. If your rank is low, Juggernaut is the perfect choice for you. but if your rank is high, DM may be a bit better for you, unless you are a skilled Juggernaut. Those formats may be the only ones you can finish before the time-limit alone. Without other players teaming up, your chances to win increase.

In case you like ASL format and want to play in it to earn stars, I've got a tip for you too; don't waste time playing on the blue team, in case you are sent into the blue team - simply leave. You'll waste your time there trying to defend your base, which is very hard, and even if you manage to successfully defend your base, it would probably take 10 minutes and as you remember, it's too much. On the other hand, the red team is perfect for you!

For the TDM lovers, I don't recommend you to play in this format to earn stars for 1 simple reason: If the opposing team's players leave the match, you will have to wait in the map until the end. which is a waste of time. In case you still want to play in TDM, play with your friends in a group.

Maps

The map you play on is also a very important parapment in the stars hunt. Playing in the right map is another key for being a successful hunter! If the matchmaking sends you to maps like Masscare & Highways, you better leave the map. It's very hard to finish the map before the time-limit and capturing a flag in those maps isn't an easy thing to do. If the matchmaking sends you to a map where there are 5 minutes left and the other team is winning, simply leave the map. Don't get confused, if you are playing in a map, you're losing but you are in a good place - play till the end. Be aware that both top places in both teams get a high amount of stars.

This tip may sound a little bit strange at first, but it may help a lot! If you are playing close to the server update (usually being held at 2:00 UTC), play "quick battles", it may take a lot of time for the Matchmaking to send you into a map of a specific format.

Take over your team

When there's a close match between your team and the opposing team, try acting as a leader and tell your teammates what to do. You can tell them what combo they should use, where flag, is place them in attacking & defending positions and so on. These sorts of actions can help your team to win, and by winning the battle you'll get more stars!

Easy Stars Booster

Easy_stars.png

This is the part where buyers get the advantage.

The "Easy Stars booster" is a pass which can be purchased during special events in the shop. What does it have to do with this guide? Oh well, with this pass, the number of stars you earn after a battle will be DOUBLED! Yes, you heard me right! The pass will stay in your garages during the whole event and will be removed once the event is concluded. If you have some money left and you want to earn stars faster, this pass is the right choice for you!

Before you leave let me remind you once again of your main purpose while earning stars: don't forget to try and finish the battles before the time-limit to save time and earn more stars in a shorter time.

Much thanks for reading my guide, I hope you'll apply my tips on the battlefield! Feel free to comment on anything related to the guide below, it can be a suggestion of your own or just feedback. Everything is welcome!

Spy brings you a comprehensive topic on the relatively new feature, the stars. Do not wait and give it a look. Perhaps you will find the information helpful even for the currently running Star Week. If you gained any additional experierence that can help the other tankers, feel free to share it in the comments.

Good luck with the Star hunt.

Spy? How did he manage to write an article for Specials without being a reporter? I thought the Initiative was restricted to regular issues...

Anyways, good job! I disagree with the tips regarding leaving battles, but other than that, very good article!

Well, in case you didn't understand, I advise players to leave the battle if they are being sent to a battle which is about to end and the other team is winning. There's no reason to stay there and waste your drugs for a single star.

Amazing job, Spy! This is a very useful little guide, packed with a few tips and tricks. This will be very useful for those that are unaware and/or just don't understand the new system yet.

With that said, I do feel like this belongs in the Welcome section of the forum (too). Since this system is planned to stay in the game and will be used for future events, such a guide should be moved for players who don't know about the system.

Anyhow, as I said, it's a very useful article!
Now we can redirect players to here, rather than elsewhere

If everyone follows your instruction, it will always be 10vs0 in ASL, where is the fun? Btw, it's very rare when a red team capture until 100 points.

PS :D

The main point of the article is to earn stars in the fastest way

I know. You said CTF was the fastest way. CP too. But red team in ASL rarely ends the battle before the 9 minutes.

If you have a crap team, you can get 100 score and be first with 3 stars, before 10 minutes complete.

As spy said: The main point of the article is to earn stars in the fastest way. And no, it is not rare when a red team capture untill 100 points because when you have group of friends with which you are playing and calling you can win everything.

After this update it will be harder but still possible.

pfffft, as usual, you find another excuse to make sure everyone knows you have some esports paint.

You are the only one who noticed to this little thing in this picture. But if that bothers you that much, I will replace the picture

EDIT: I've changed the picture, I hope you will enjoy reading. :)

about leaving if you get sent to highways.. I think that if you have shaft then you shouldn't. It is very easy to end the battle early if it's TDM, CP or assault blue team.

while it is harder to end the battle early in CTF or Rugby, at least with a shaft you are 100% guaranteed to get 3 stars. In other maps there's the chance that someone better steals your first/second place. my shaft is only m3 but so far i have finished first in every single highways battle since matchmaking got released, even in full legend battles.

May be, but still not many players use shaft, so your advice applies for specific players who actually like using shaft.

It's possible with blue team too. Honestly, during the whole star week, I reached 100 with red one time, and one time with blue too.

Yes. Joined this one late, but I saw the scores on my team, so I decided to stay, reached first place really fast. Sahft M3 with a few MU's.

It's way easier to win in the red base than in blue base in ASL.

I wouldn't use shaft to earn stars. in maps like Highways most of the players would use shaft and other long-range turrets, so let's say it's you play CTF, capturing flags will be hard. in TDM, players from losing team will leave the map once they realize they don't have big chances of winning. and in Rugby format, the same problem as in CTF, it will be difficult to score goals.

As for DM & Juggernaut, it's fine to play with if you are skilled with shaft, but other shafts may be a big problem for you.

Thank you for the feedbacks by the way, and it would be nice if you will merge all your quotes into 1 quote in the next time.

I thought the forum was supposed to merge two consecutive posts from the same member. Sometimes it does, sometimes not. My mistake.

Anyways, ASL depends a lot of the teams, and also the maps. Red team in Magistral, it's very hard. Played 2 ASL battle there so far, always in blue, and won both battles. But yes, usually,  red team has a better chance to win, and I never denied that :D It was about finishing the battle before the end of the battle. Now with 9 minutes, it's harder.

Btw, I always do well with Shaft in Highways, no matter what the mode is (except for DM and JGR, I use Rico or Smoky). I don't see that much Shafts in other mods, I switch as soon as I join to Shaft. In CTF, I don't need to capture a flag, battles are always close, it's rarely higher than 1-1 or 2-1. So I have big chances to be in top 2. It's different for RGB for sure, it's easier to capture the ball for teammates, so I try to reach at least 4 stars and i'm happy with that.

Highways CP is heaven for my Shaft on the other hand. Lot of points to capture, lot of light hulls to reach points faster, so more kill for me :D And it helps the team too. Dead enemies can't capture a point B)
