What do people like about Mumble Rap/Trap?

Personally, I think it sucks and I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions about this... but, I've listened to a lot of songs that I think is bad, but Mumble Rap is just a level worse than bad songs (its just as bad as 2016+ pop) in my opinion. *i loved the rap i used to know*

Mumble Rap = 0% Melody | 0% Lyrics | 100% Drugs/Violence/Sex

On one hand, you have a thing named lil pump, who goes gucci gang gucci gang gucci gang throughout his entire 2 minute "song" and everyone is in love with it.

On the other hand, you have a group named migos, who goes "walk it talk it" throughout their entire "song".

Post Malone is alright and even though I absolute hate Mumble Rap, I could tell he is like the king of it. But still, do songs have to be about drugs/violence/sex?

People always say that they only like it because of the beat in Mumble Rap is good, but every good song has a good beat, mumble rap or not, so that really isn't the reason.

My conclusions are that people only like it because:

1. they want to look cool and everyone else likes it and they are desperate to fit in

2. the pop today is absolute garbage, i might make another topic about that.

Mumble-rap/trap lyrics are mostly irrelevant filler. For me some mumble-rap evokes a carefree and an energized feel. And even if I don't like the drug culture I do enjoy the intoxicating vibe that artists like Travis Scott and Future can create. Also it's a fact that the human brain likes catchy repetition and simple patterns of melody. Not to mention some mumble-rap/trap is just downright hilariously goofy when you hear it for the first time.

Mumble rap/trap is like the southern dance rap of the 2000s or the playa anthems of the 90s, there is always gonna be that simplistic and mainstream part of rap. Besides, there is still ALOT of technically and lyrically good young rappers, TDE, the Beast Coast movement, guys like Big Krit, Jid, Chance, Brockhampton, Tyler, Gambino, Logic, Denzel and countless others. These are the guys you ought to be looking at in the new-shcool. You can even listen to Post Malone or Rae Sremmurd if you wanna have the party feel without the mumbles.

give me an example, and i might change my mind about that statement.

There is a lot of music out there that does not have a pronounced "beat." Almost all music has rhythm of course, but not necessarily indicate constant recurring percussion backbone. Example: here's Chopin's Revolutionary etude. It's a famous piece - yet it doesn't really have an easily discernible beat.

Hmm.. Revolutionary Etude... I'm curious why you chose that one when Chopin literally writes waltzes for a living (3 audible beats per measure) lol

i was really thinking of more modern music. Yes, there are music out there without pronounced beats (the first one that comes to my mind is bittersweet symphony, which i dont really like but it was pretty popular back in the day) but let's take this comparison:

Rock: Has Audible Beats.

Rap: Has Audible Beats.

Let's think of it this way, now, what makes rap much more popular than rock? surely it can't be because of the "beat" which everyone says it is.

Chopin wrote waltzes, yes. But he also wrote many not-waltzes. There is a lot of classical music without a strong beat. I chose the etude because it proves my point and it's well known. It's far from my favorite piece of music.

Popular music is what really introduced the "beat." I don't think popular music is worth much consideration.

Man post malone? Are you crazy. I'm going to disagree with you about him being a mumble rapper. Have you heard his song stay, feel, i fall apart? Come on man.

Nope, like I said, not really into mumble rap. And he's a mumble rapper. I personally define it like this, you can disagree:

1. They don't rap fast

2. You can't even tell what words he is saying at all.

3. Uses low voice that's all throat and no tongue

Post Malone is different because his songs have a teeny bit of melody, although not a lot, while you got the Migos and like lil uzi vert of 6ix9ine or that basically sound the same.

I was just saying that Chopin was much more well-known for his waltzes and mazurkas than the revolutionary etude, which is still a fantastic piece that I've played.

I'm comparing modern/popular music with mumble rap instead of baroques/classicals/romantics because modern and old music are too different. What applies to older music usually does not apply for modern music.

Now that you brought up the point that popular music is what really introduced the "beat", what makes trap beats cooler than other genre's beats?

I was listening to old school for about 10 years and now im listening to Mubmle rap, Trap and even horrorcore. I hated new school rap but i got bored by listening old school everyday lmao. I decided to check some new school and now i think its dope. Ofcourse there is a lot of crap but you still can find many good songs. I dont really know why i like it, probably lyrics and yeah the most songs here is about violence but i like it. Im listening to $uicideboy$, 21 Savage, some Migos, Gucci Mane, some Lil Yachty, Future, J Cole, A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott. If you want to see some (IMO) good songs, here are the links:

whaat?? They have to rap fast to not be mumble rappers? It's harder to even understand those fast rappers at times. Take a listen at Tech Nine's World Wide Choppers, half the damn song you don't even know what they say. Post malone you can actually understand him not sure how you don't, and two he does sing great. Like i said go listen to "Stay" by post malone and it will change your mind. The guy has even sung covers of Johnny cash while playing the guitar. I think you are completely misinformed with post malone.

Oh boy, do I have a few choice words about that statement. I don't think you've ever heard of prog rock/ prog metal, if you haven't, I shall refer you to this song (below), and ask you to rethink your statement.
