10 minutes for Matchmaking battles and 5 minutes for Star week

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that matchmaking battles are now getting shorter and shorter. Matchmaking battles used to be 10 minutes long sometime ago which was great, but then developers reduced the time to 9 minutes, and now 8 minutes long. The current time for matchmaking battles make it too difficult to earn enough crystals in them and too hard to get enough kills within each matchmaking battle complete.

My suggestion is to have matchmaking battles to return to the normal 10 minute long battles, which makes them more balanced and better to play with a total time limit of 10 minutes.

However, for Star Week events, where players are required to earn stars in matchmaking battles, players should have matchmaking battles which are 5 minutes long. When Star Week ends, matchmaking battles return to their normal time limit of 10 minutes.

This is the rule and regulation that I have for normal matchmaking battles which are supposed to be 10 minutes long, and during Star Week events, matchmaking battles reduce the time limit to 5 minutes long. After every Star Week event ends, matchmaking battles return to normal with their 10 minute of timespan.

By having matchmaking battles have 5 minutes of time limit during Star Week, it helps players complete matchmaking battles sooner and also help players earn more stars quicker, without modifying the number of stars each player earns for finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or on lower places.

Let's make matchmaking battles by have two types of matchmaking battles. Normal matchmaking battles and Star Week matchmaking battles. That is more fair.

I'm not sure what you mean by "earning enough crystals" in battles, because there is no official challenge that requires you to gain a certain number of crystals or kills in a single battle. If you are doing a daily mission and don't complete it in one battle - just go to the next battle to get the rest of exp/kills/other that you need.

Reducing the time to 5 minutes during Star weeks sounds good for players, but bad for the economy since it basically doubles the amount of stars (and rewards) players will be getting compared to the previous star weeks.

What I mean by (not enough crystals) is that in 8 minute long matchmaking battles, there isn't enough time to earn the same amount of crystals which players approximately earn in 10 minute matchmaking battles.

Please change matchmaking battles to 10 minutes like this were before. The current time of 8 minutes long is too short. That leaves players with 2 minutes short.

However, for Star Week events, developers would have to figure out a proper time balance limit between matchmaking battle time during Star Week, with the amount of stars players earn during each Star Week matchmaking battle.

Of course, but you also manage to fit more battles in the time you spend playing.

For example, say you have 80 minutes of free time to play today. If battles were 10 minutes long, you'd be able to play 8 battles in the time you have. If battles are 8 minutes long, you'd play 10 battles. So with those two extra battles you play, you'd be able to make up for the fact that you earn less crystals per battle compared to 10-minute long battles.

To be honest with you, I prefer to have 10 minutes battles because it gives more time for players to get more kills, experience, crystals and more ability to catch gold boxes.

naa, you would have to spend at least those combined extra minutes waiting XD

Actually, shorter battles shortens waiting time.

Shortening waiting times is a good thing, but shorter battles is a bad thing.

if you want shorter waiting time than get rid of assault mode

Every battle you play wastes ~ 1 minute trying to get a battle (no one takes those "average waiting times" seriously).

Additionally there is wasted time in every new battle as players orient themselves and even visit the garage.

Playing more shorter battles actually reduces scoring over time.

I don't know about the whole "wasting one minute" thing. I just played around 8 rounds of CTF in a row and once I joined the first battle (took 25 seconds, I think), every consequent transfer to a new battle was instantaneous. In total it probably took me around 15 seconds to go from clicking "continue" to spawning in a new battle.

To avoid wasting time, my suggestion is to decrease the wasted time it takes for tanks to respawn. Newly respawned tanks does not need to be ghosts for the first few seconds. Removing the ghost tanks will be the key feature to shorten respawn times.

That's easier said than done.

Usually we either have to wait a while for a battle to open to be sent to it or we are sent to one where these no point in playing in it either because it is a one sided battle, or its a battle full of players with higher modification level equipment than us.

I do have to admit that most of the battles I have been in have been decent for me. I think that's because I play half an hour after server restart so the MM system also restarts. I don't know if that's true but that's just my theory.

Anyway, not many people are as lucky as I am and I guess overtime it makes mistakes.

Well, that would explain the long waiting times. Half an hour after restart is when the number of players is at its lowest. Less players = longer waiting times.

faster pace battles are more fun and as explained in the vlog you earn more crystals overall the shorter the battles. I hate long dragged out battles, where if you loose you wasted a lot of time for a **** amount of crystals

I do understand your point here. It also happened to me before when playing long battles and I earn little crystals for long periods of time. Quite often, I play matchmaking battles and I earn a good crystal fund. Yesterday, I have played a very long pro battle in space mode on the Skyscrapers map and lost. The battle lasted for over an hour and finished with around 500+ crystals. I agree why some players like you like short matchmaking battles, but having matchmaking battles too short is also bad for gameplay. That's why the balance between matchmaking battle time and fund must be evenly distributed so that players are not disappointed with their crystals earnings.

Yea i get your point I do hope they dont decrease the MM time more as i have missed a lot of golds due to the time limit and since im not a drugger  I do sometimes get a very bad score and hardly any crystals so i just play real hard and cant seem to take the battle casually. I actually wouldn't mind if they increase the time limit back to 10 min but rn this is really good for future star events we save 2 mins every battle so we can earn stars faster. I will be only be happy if they did increase the time limit back to 10 min if during the star event mm batles to go back to 8min or lower.

So yea i do agree with your idea of making battles 10min as long as during star events they lower the time limit to 8 min or lower

I agree that they should stop shortening them, because it's getting really annoying. Just keep them at a length everyone agrees on !

Some players like me always start battles badly, with horrible lag and spawn killing, then gradually start improving their performance and eventually do pretty good.. but the part where I start doing "pretty good" is now the part when the battle has like 1 minute remaining.

It's a myth.  Waiting times have not changed with these shorter battles.

I'd say most players don't play 8 games in a row of same battle-mode by clicking "continue". Certainly possible, but I've never done that.

Even during peak time on a Saturday it can take 45 seconds +.  And I'd be willing to bet the "average waiting time" does not account for those who give up after 75 seconds and try again, getting in in 10 seconds.  That "waiting time" is really 85 seconds, not 10 seconds.

But my main point is that each new battle started wastes time with orientation to the map, and equipment changes.  Longer battles have less of this wasted time over multiple battles.  Need to play almost double the number of battles now compared to when they were 15 minutes.  That's double the "wasted time".

On October 16 2018 there is a new Star Week coming to Tanki Online. For Star Week events I do agree to have matchmaking battles 8 minutes or shorter times, but when Star Week ends, matchmaking battles must return to the normal time of 10 minutes. That would be much better for players.

Also, like you have said, its bad for gold boxes when matchmaking battles are below the 10 minute long limit. During normal gameplay times, where there are no holidays or events, matchmaking battles should always remain as 10 minutes long battle time limit.

Ill admit there are no noticeable changes, but the math says shorter battles > more players not in battles > more players available > shorter waiting times.
