Guido speculated that Magnum will get a freezing or burning option, which is frankly terrifying. You might want to keep the feedback in the announcement topic until its closed though.

Okay, here's my guess:

(white = already exists)

Firebird:

  • High pressure pump
  • Compact tanks
  • corrosive fire (?!?!)
  • Higher max. temperature at the expense of base damage.

Freeze:

  • High pressure pump
  • Corrosive mix
  • Movement freezing (targets enemy tank's tracks to slow them down, but maybe doesn't affect the turret as much and deals less damage)
  • Lower minimum temperature at the expense of damage.

Isida:

  • Broadband emitters
  • Support nanobots
  • Increased energy tank (probably for less damage or range)
  • Attack nanobots (increase damage but reduce healing power)

Hammer:

  • Slugger
  • High capacity drum
  • One extra shot (but doesn't increase loading time like the above alt and instead nerfs something else)
  • No idea, probably something that fires two shots at once and deals double damage, but changes reload mechanics
  • Fire shots (which makes no sense for a shotgun, but whatever)

Twins:

  • Plasma core accelerators
  • Stable plasma
  • Penetrating plasma (goes through tanks like railgun)
  • Umm... Decepticon Twins? No idea.

Ricochet:

  • Minus-field stabilization
  • Unstable plasma
  • Increased energy tank (no idea why you'd need this, considering rico has 29 shots right now)
  • Shuriken plasma balls No idea, probably just higher damage shots

Smoky:

  • Assault ammunition
  • Precision targeting system
  • Shots freeze enemies
  • Shots set enemies on fire
  • Quick-fire shots (It quickly auto-fires 5 times, then goes for a long reload. Kinda like the new revolver added in Fortnite)
  • Higher critical damage and/or chance

Striker:

  • Reduced lock-on time
  • 6 rockets instead of 4
  • Higher explosion damage/range (probably less default damage)
  • Faster turning for rockets with lock-on

Vulcan:

  • Faster horizontal tracking
  • Modified firing rate
  • Fire ammunition (sets targets on fire, kinda lame)

Thunder:

  • Armor-piercing ammo
  • Lightweight ordinance autoloader
  • Explosive ammo (increases explosion range and damage but reduces base damage)

Railgun:

  • Faster horizontal tracking
  • Shell stabilization
  • High calibre ammo
  • Shots ricochet off walls
  • Higher piercing damage to consecutive tanks (i.e. first tank gets base damage, then higher and higher and higher for next tanks in line)
  • No idea, maybe faster warm-up time before shot?
  • Possibly shots that deal some damage to nearby tanks as they fly past, even if they did't actually hit

Magnum:

  • Maybe some kind of armor-piercing round?
  • Faster reload or faster turret rotation. Or maybe it will enable horizontal rotation?
  • No idea. Firing a shot places a mine where it lands?
  • Fire shots
  • Freeze shots

Shaft:

  • Assault emitters
  • Heavy capacitors
  • Light capacitors (less sniping damage but fast reload)
  • Triple shot ability
  • No idea.

We'll lock this topic on Tuesday, or whenever the alterations are released.

Thanks for this topic and it's screenshots - makes it far more convinient :)

Most of my speculations are aligned with Maf, so I list only those where I have an idea which is different from his:

Railgun:

- The last railgun alteration could be a faster reload at the expense of damage.

Shaft:

- The last alteration pictogram could be a laser emitor..

Magnum:

- The one that looks like a mine could be a mine exterminator, to clear the enemy base.

To throw mines on a distance sounds nice, but if, then only combined with recuded damage/splash and loosing a mine of your supplies.

Striker:

- many rockets: I still hope that the striker alteration that shows the many rockets gives reduced reload and reduced damage, so that you can use it as a rapid-fire rocket launcher

- I don't think that the homing missiles will turn even faster.. but I could think of it making lockon 1sec and shot a single homing missile (and align the reload to make it balanced). This would overcome the issue that many players can not aim well with this turret.

Isida:

- The pictogramm with the two tanks looks like faster reload or alike

Overall I am very nosy what we will get (although I am here long enough to not fall into over-expectaions :P )

Good points, I didn't think about that. As for Magnum's mine alteration - if it does end up planting mines with every shot (which sounds quite ridiculous, so your theory is much more plausible), then it would have to be a limited number of mines, otherwise a couple magnums could easily flood their whole base with mines within seconds and create an impenetrable defence.

Oh boy, Isida should definitely not get the opposite of the nanobot alt; what's that like 618 damage per second?

Do not forget that Isida can fire only for 5 seconds and when the enemy has heavy hull and/or Isida module, you have a big problem...

1 new alteration? 1? Vulcan has cruddy alterations already, and its the only one that has 3 alts (Except for Thunder, but thats OP already.) Whyyyyyyyy? What did Vulcan do to the devs? *stabs self

Well, alterations simply alter the game mechanics a bit. They don't (or at least aren't supposed to) make the turret more powerful. So having less alterations for a turret simply means that the game mechanics for that turret are quite basic and there's not too many ways to alter them. Although I agree that both Thunder and Vulcan could use a few more alterations.

I agree, I was just kinda hoping that alterations would be able to save Vulcan, like it has other turrets. (Rail's high caliber ammo, Twins no splash, etc)

To be honest, after the recent balance update Vulcan received a crazy buff. It has a slightly longer learning curve, but it's crazy effective once you get used to the long spin-up time.

For thunder they could have frezz amo just like for magnum.

Great you have time to make meme ^_^

A long distance freez - it is better than the short range freez. As long as they don't give the freezing effect to the firebird.

They gave thunder splash damage to other turret! It would be fair to give some other abilities to thunder too. Like Critical hit for thunder would be interesting too.

Well, it is alot better after the update, but its still on the weak side. It does really well in certain situations, but if your base is being overrun you are toast.

Well, back in 2012-2015 we believed that each turret had its own unique special ability, and that ability is what made the turret different from the rest. But then alterations were introduced, and now you can make one turret behave like another and for the most part the turrets lost their charm.

At least that's what a few people seem to think. I'm personally OK with it for the most part, since alterations are definitely good for adding variety and adjusting individual turrets to better fit your play style.

First two already exist, other guesses:

  • light damage, light reload time.
  • tiered shot structure, allows one to shoot in a burst of three shots in one time.
  • removes laser for reduced damage, more reload?

Also, those last two alterations of Magnum, clever idea.

Ah yeah, I totally forgot about the sacrifice, the nanobot alt has an extended energy pool so the new damage alt will probably have vice versa.

We have so much more ways to customize our tank now, I could only dream of such a thing back when I started. I mean come on, paints bound on the protection made everyone look the same. I had Prodigi on all the time but it looks like seagull poop to me. All you had was the turrets and hulls, no MU's and no overdrives. The absence of overdrives is probably the only thing I miss from that era.

Now we have:

- A LOT more paints varing in rarity, true paints.. without protection.. an on-going stream of new paints in containers.

- Seperate protection modules giving you -I don't know how many-  different setups.

- XT items

- Drones (they look cute)

- Alterations

- specific overdrives for each hull

And soon new colors for each turret and even more alterations.

I have so much more stuff to choose from to get the exact tank that I want. People don't know what they're talking about because they have not seen how simple the things were in 2012. You wouldn't want to go back seriously.

I have a job and responsibilities now but I wish we had this kind of stuff back in 2012 when I had so much more spare time.

This is all inside a flash game, it's quite special.

I'm only gonna look at the turrets i have.. so

smoky and magnum will get both burning and freezeing while isida will get the opposite of support nanobots, which will make it able to square up to fire or freeze..

holy crap, i keep getting killed by fire and freeze, can't wait to get revenge!

Oh yeah, I totally get you. before the rebalance it was even worse, because everyone used the same 4-5 turrets, 3 hulls and a handful of paints. In terms of variety everything is far better now. Even the maps we play on.

That last one for Ricochet - multiplie plasma balls firing at once? Rico becomes a bit more like Hammer?

And I’m wondering if the new Fire and Freeze alts will allow them to fire through walls, making them even more effective anti-Magnum turrets

.
