Best Memories From Tanki's Past

 Share

Recommended Posts

     Hello fellow tankers,

I'm Private First Class Cavenaugh, (you may know me as @Moreuz), and I've been playing tank for the better part of 6 years. Now you may be new to Tanki, you may have been playing for a year, or you could've been here since the game was initially released.

Now, I am posting this topic to see what people remember about Tanki. Could be anything. Your first M3 weapon and hull combo, the release of MU (micro upgades, which on release were much more complicated than they are now.) Maybe you remember starladder, or a Specific person, like Seymon, who as many may know, was our favorite face on the internet every Friday.

Sooooooo, if you have a memory, or have something to share, please do. Even post your screenshots. I'll start.....

My favorite memory of Tanki, was the release of the graphics update, which showed flashes of light, dust particles, and shadows.

For me :

1.ranking to marchal , something i was saving for and playing hard so i could reach the rank when tanki birthday came , so i could have a very nice start in the high ranks , with m3 equipment

2. long games in pro battle , something very rare now . Games in Polygon and Noise for 3-4 hours and bringing home loads of crystals as reward .

3. something new but which will be on my mind forever . Since im a vulcan player : when the fire alt came out , the 1st day . I know it might be stupid , but i was soo OP and nobody cared about a vulcan firing from far away and killing them seconds later when they were allready out the line of fire . Made a absolute killing that day , with K/D nrs on average 4 to 5 .

When any player could be a part of starladder tournaments. I was participating in those tournaments with my non-toxic clanmates.

So, in general, when there were actually people in the game who aren't arseholes.

This kid has anger issues. I wonder how many keyboards he goes through a month. I've been known to hollar a few obscenities at the monitor. But then I know it's time to quit for awhile. This kid hasn't learned that. He's going to end up with grey hairs and ulcers before he reaches age 20 and die from a heart attack before age 30.

Collecting blue crystal boxes. When I was a Sgt and could join Marshal battles. Blue boxes with 10 crystals dropped 5 at a time. No one seemed interested in them and they would eventually disappear. What a waste. So, I made it my duty to collect all those boxes. 50 crystals in one haul. I could come out of the battle with 200 to 300 crystals. Of course, between drops I would shoot at the enemy with my Smoky peashooter and even made an occasional kill.

Flying tank hack. When I first saw it, I was wondering what key to press in order to fly. I searched all over Tanki and YT. It was in the forum I discovered it was a hack and against the rules.

Cheap equipment. I don't remember what they cost back then, but very cheap compared to what it is now.

Team players. Teams played as teams, not individuals on a team.

Ghosting. 3 or 4 teammates could ghost another tank to get past aggressive enemy teams. Then we would separate, spawn and attack the enemy while the Wasp or Hornet made off with the flag. We can't do that anymore.

Spinning turrets. At times, everything ran normal, then suddenly everyone's turret started spinning. It was a lag, I think. But my tank was still running normal. I'd go into enemy territory and push everyone off the map. It was like I was in another dimension, but the enemy didn't detect what I was doing. The game play went on normally for them. It was my way of getting revenge.

OK, that's enough. Let someone else speak.

Ghosting can still be done , and is used in maps like Noise . People do see you , so they know how to counter it , but it can certainly still be done ( till last week , maybe changed now )

Spinning turrets , yep thats a lag .

Team , tanki doesnt seem to want people play as a team . Shortening of the battles made all teamtactics thrown in the trashbin . Did enjoy those team tactics , passing flag from 1 to another person , while keeping their defence under fire . Now its all individuals , sometimes in the same team , but you play as person not as team anymore .

I tried ghosting other tanks a few weeks ago, but I kept spawning under the tank I was ghosting. I went into Q&A and asked about it. I was told that isn't the way Tanki was meant to be played and can't do that anymore. Yeah, Noise was the map to do it in, especially on blue team. You can ghost for a little while, but not like we used to.

I remember the flag trains. Seems the enemy would kill the one carrying the flag, not the ones in the train. You didn't have to look around behind you to see if someone had your back, you knew they did. We even did relays with the flag. It didn't matter who capped the flag, we were a team and the objective was to cap, not who got the point. If the flag carrier was killed enroute and a teammate picked it up and made the cap, no one got upset about it.

Back then, battles were 15 minutes long and everyone on both teams spoke English. We were able to make battle plans and execute them. Sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. Then it was either back to the "battle room" (base) to make alternate plans or execute Plan B.

Most battles were close calls, not the washouts you see today. There was a certain amount of respect one team had for another. Spawn killing was not considered fair play and wasn't done very often. Because of all this, players on the losing team seldom left, because there was always the chance that something would happen to turn the tides of battle. Sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't. But after the battle was over, there were "gg" and "gga" all around in battle chat. Teams could battle each other time and again. In battle chat both teams would ask everyone to stay and most usually did.

Those of us who helped Tanki out of beta in 2009, we all grew up together, learning the game together. Devs asked for feedback and they listened. Most of those players are gone, now. Only a small handful left. We are the die hards.

Ah, the famous spinning turrets. Always happened when you were about to finish a long battle or take a Gold Box. Well it was like that for me at least.

I miss the good old days when a team was a team. Although I like the idea of quick find, it makes it more difficult to keep a good team, and make friends, which is why the game has died.

For me the best part of tanki was when i was new to the game, i was really exited to play tanki, kill tanks , heal other players with isida even though i was noob that time with m1 i used to love tanki a lot at that time. But now even though i ve got m2s i feel bored playing tanki , Miss the old tanki and Old tanki days.

Does anyone remember if the battles were originally 30 minutes long and later changed to 15 minutes long? It seems to me they were 30 minutes long way back when....

I believe many were because they were created by us, no an AI.
