An equality based game is never what Tanki was meant to be. Grouping each rank with only it's significant other would pretty much destroy tank variety and modification differences, we might as well stay recruits all our career and not rank up because "we have no good gear to match high rankers". The rank range is meant for players to adapt quickly and efficiently to be able to compete with people who are more experienced(higher ranked) than you are. Grouping everyone without a range into a single rank would deny people the urgency of having to adapt quick enough, and I see no reason why it should be implemented.

If equality ruled the world, authority would be swept aside. And there can't be balance without it.

 A more important problem is the fact that it will make Matchmaking extremely inefficient. It will take ages to get into a battle because it will take much longer to get a queue of people of the same rank, than a bunch of people within a range of ranks.
