Legends creativity in renaming themselves

As you notice, a lot of legends decide to rename themselves and buy the rename pass. Most of these renaming legends change their username to some random english word, usually a proposition or a verb that's not even important...like "How" or "What" or "Manage" or "Follow" or "Pencil" or "Image" or something like that.

 

Are Legends really willing to spent 18 USD (or the equivalent in different countries) for a simple username? If I had money for a username change, I would make my username the most badass looking username ever (yes, i understand sensei_tanker is not a cool username but that was my first and only username and i wasn't focused on thinking of a super cool username so deal with it)

 

I know a lot of Legends like to name themselves an English vocab word that looks like a "beautiful"/SAT word or something that has to do with destruction type of word but what is up with these random words?

I wanted to do the same, because although I kind of like painting, I have nothing to do with Pablo Picasso.

Now I think I will stay with my current nick - some people know me for it, and it definitely makes me more recognizable than if I was one of the thousands of players who name themselves the way you said. For me, it is harder to remember a player who is called "Before" or "Efficiency" and other stuff. They just melt into one.

 

Overall, I think people do it because it is somewhat aesthetic and "fashionable". Nothing more to it, I'd say.

Im not a legend, but yall know I chanted my name a while back. I didnt like my earlier name, and I just like the way Pyre sounds, plus its about burning dead bodies which is kinda badass I guess. Some of the name are cool, some are trying to be cool and failing. From the examples earlier: Manage, Efficiency, Follow = cool. Pencil, How... not so much. Just my opinion.

You have a nice nickname keep it 4 sure. If I named myself like a cool word or something I would find it aesthetic, but naming myself "Pencil" is not going to cut it in my honest opinion... no offense to those that disagree.

Idk about you, but there was a time that I had a different nickname (KillerAssassin3).

 

I eventually got tired of having the nickname because there was a number in it and it made me think that it wasn't original, so I changed it to this.

That's absolutely true. Legends like having a single word name and that name CANNOT have _, -, . or any numbers because it appears unoriginal. For example, I would change sensei_tanker to Sensei.

 

But that is still no excuse for naming yourself pencil. I can still think of plenty usernames that are meaningful that aren't as stupid as pencil.

@Maloo, @GoldBox, @SV6. I guess because it's short, easy to remember and different? It also doesn't look messy/busy when read. 

 

IMO a shorter, punchier nickname is better than a nickname with heaps of numbers and symbols. Maybe that's why so many players have changed their nickname, it was too long.

I understand that and I agree that the ideal nickname will only contain letters and no symbols. However, naming yourself Pencil or Shout or Avoid is just plain stupid.

EDIT: I was just thinking about the characteristics of a pencil.

 

1...It's a writing instrument 

2...The graphite can be rubbed out

3...Some people are described as being as thin as a pencil or as tall and slender as a pencil. 

4...Some people are referred to as a pencil because their head is like the rubber eraser, everything bounces off, including other people's advice. (AKA: Rubberhead)

5...The word pencil comes from Latin penncilus meaning "little tail." 

6...Graphite was found in Cumbria, England and is still the largest known deposit in the world.

It's not about having a deep meaning or a cool word - it's about having a short, neat and easily memorable name. To me, and to a lot of other people such names are the perfect choice to be respected and recognised.

 

Due to the fact that nicknames get taken, shorter names that have no numbers, replaced letters, sound good and mean something are hard to come by. And formatting it like a real name (capital letter followed by lowercase) is neat.

To be fair, a lot of gang nicknames and army nicknames also seem random at first.

 

Mine is pretty simple - I used to be Mafioso, but I didn't want to be associated with a criminal organization when I became admin, and everyone called me Maf anyway, so...

Tbh I wouldn't mind having "Avoid" as a nickname  :ph34r:  Shout and Pencil maybe not so much, They do look clean tho.

I don't think it's about being creative or sounding badass... its simply just a name that's not supposed to have any meaning. just look at how "creative" your country is huh... brutal kangeroo? tigerswan? blackwater? golden unicorns? electric strawberry? red diamond?  screaming eagles? cactus??  :blink:  ffs they named an attack helicopter "gender" , that's definately stupider than calling a tank "pencil"
