Computer speakers

The speakers I've been using for the last 16 years have finally given up. Right now, I have my headphones plugged in to the back of the computer. I'm looking for new speakers but am twixted and between as to what to buy. Technology has changed so much since 2002. Small doesn't mean bad and large doesn't mean good. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Here's what I'm looking for:

----No surround sound

----Decent power

----Adjustable volume and treble/bass. I have some minor hearing loss and sometimes they have to be adjusted.

----Stereo from 2 speakers with good base

----Less than $100.00

----Either stand upright or lie down on the side. So no pedestal stands.

----Headphone jack

----The space I have is 4'' high and 21" wide

----Needs to have a long cord. The ones I have run from the top of the desk to an access hole in the back of the desk, down the back of the desk and through another access hole in the back of the cabinet, to the back of the computer.

----Color doesn't matter, but I prefer not to have white

So, any suggestions? I'm pretty much challenged in this area.

You've been using the same speakers for SIXTEEN YEARS?? holy crap.

Anyways idk anything about desktop speakers being I don't use one but if you have any sort of Walmart, Office Depot ect..... Near you you could go in to one of them and ask a employee to help you find what you are looking for, unless of you want to order than online then I might look around and help

With Christmas coming up, I'm not going to buy until next year. I have been looking around on the internet, but mostly what I'm seeing are surround sound and mini speakers for laptops. I found a few that sounded good until I looked at the price tag of $180+. The speakers that went bad are Altec Lansing. A lot of websites have Christmas Sales going on, but the prices go back up on Dec. 31.
