Considering the possibility of experiencing tanki as it was in 2012

Recommended Posts

So, for me the experience was amazing even though I started playing tanki almost 2 months before the new graphics (8/8/2012 to be precise) and the rebalance were introduced.

My idea is for us to (possibly, in the far future) have a remastered (bugs free with no new turrets) version of the 2012 tanki online with the legacy graphics and the same old battle, crystals, turrets, hulls, and gold boxes mechanisms.

The game was doing quite amazing back then and over %80 percent of veteran players agree that there was no need for a rebalance; this idea would blast and bring back all the players (whom quit tanki for such reasons) back to tanki and would recover its early massive popularity.

Let the newer players experience the amazing tanki stories we veterans have been telling them.

2012 is already 7 years ago?! That's pretty sad.

Anyways I think topics like this have been suggested several times before, the answer was always no. They'd have to put a large amount of effort into making it, and risk the fact that it may not attract a significant portion of the player base, since most of them are satisfied with the current tanki (except us on the forums lol). It'd be a financial loss for them, even if some of us really like the idea.

I don't think most people are satisfied, you can already tell how many people quit tanki and the days where you had like 200k people online on weekdays while now you only have like 40k on weekends; Let it at least be like a test server thing for players to give their opinions, anyways we can have a mini server for that purpose and I bet it'll always crash from the amounts of people joining; Let's do it once and for all!

Even though I left the game in 2015, several times I came back to check what is new in Tanki Online. As for me, the 2014 - 2016 period was the best, the number of players and members of the Forum was bigger.

Back then, more players played and organized battles where the amount of supplies wasn't important, the only that was important were the skills. Game experience as I can see is ruined, because no one (even in PRO battle) won't play if you disable supplies, alterations and overdrives in the battle's settings.

The same thing stands for the gold box supply, where you can easily ruin the battle (team battles) by distracting players from fighting to catching the gold box.To attract players, the only thing that you need to do today is to write in the battle's name is that you have 15 gold boxes that you will drop whenever you want. I tried to organize some fire-wasp or XP battles where players need to fight for the battle fund (and eventually a bigger chance for a gold box to drop) but no one wanted to join.

Unfortunately, Tanki became a funless game where only what matters is how much supplies and gold boxes do you have.

As much as people complain about updates, I don't think they realize what would have happened if Tanki hadn't updated the game.  Everything would be fun and games for a while, but eventually, it would have gotten boring.  With all these new updates, we're still interested and people still support the game by buying things.   That's how any game stays afloat.  So stop complaining and start thanking them that you still have a game to play.  If you want something like the old Tanki, equip the Legacy Modules and play your favorite map with no supplies, drones, or alterations in PRO battles.  Have fun!  That's what this game is about.

It's true there are a lot of people who are dissatisfied with what this game has become, but you can't assume bad updates are the sole reason for the exodus of players, although they did contribute to some extent. Sometimes people move on and try out other games, some of them just got bored after fully upgrading their garage and found no reason to keep playing. Another reason could be that this particular genre of games is losing out to more popular games like fortnight/PUBG/CS, but at least it still has quite a fan base after all these years online.

Test server is usually really laggy even with around 1000-2000 players online, which represents about 10% of active players on the main servers now..not sure, but it's something like that. How could players try it out if it keeps crashing constantly though?

I'm not saying this idea isn't good, nor is it impossible to happen, but it's most likely at odds with what the devs have in mind right now, which is disappointing I know, but remember that if some of these p2w updates weren't released the game wouldn't be able to keep itself going financially and would've shutdown some time ago.

Let me just tell you some things that developers mentioned about this in the past:

  • Old versions of the game are outdated and incompatible. There is no button they can just press to revert the game back to its 2012 state overnight.
  • Creating a single server with the older version of the game would require enormous amounts of time and money. It's basically like creating a whole new game from scratch.
  • Servers require funding and maintenance to keep them running. This can only be done if there is a lot of demand for whatever the server hosts.
  • Whether you like it or not, the reality is that previous versions of the game are much, much worse than now. The current version has dozens of useful features which weren't there years ago, so while the balance may have been better back then (this is very arguable), the overall game was on a much lower level.
  • Even if the game still has a significant amount of people, who would be interested in playing an older version, the vast majority of them will check it out, play for 5-10 minutes, get bored and go back to the main game. Servers may be full on the first day, but the hype will die down extremely fast and only a dozen or so players will want to keep playing it.
  • This would drive players away from Matchmaking battles and make MM less effective, which is the last thing devs want.

So as you can see, making a "2012 experience" would be a terrible business decision and nothing more than a small gift to satisfy players' curiosity. It will never happen.

There is unofficial copy of tanki called gtanks, not sure about the year but it is really damn old. You could play there

Really? can you send me a link of that?

I might start a poll on the idea on general forum to see the demand; developers can make it a paid version anyways.

I do know developers can't revert tanki to 2012 with a button push, that's why I suggested a remaster of 2012 version.

Edit: I believe tanki can get through the fact that people will get bored and come back to the main game since the moment they created Tanki X

I am not complaining about the P2W updates but about how plain and serene 2012 tanki online was.

Well, I do think you have literally no idea about old tanki; I'm talking about the 2012 period where tanki was a little closer to another game than it was to current tanki online. And you are relatively new to the game.

You can if you want to, but it will not change the fact that your suggestion will never be implemented.

They can't change the game back to 2012, it's probably technically impossible by now and there's no reason to do that. And I heard they can't even find the files of Lost Temple.

It's a bootlegged version, not to mention illegal too - so I highly suggest that you do not share any links whatsoever publicly on the forums. The content there is neither promoted nor endorsed by Alternativa.

If it is old enough, I would LOVE to check it

I tried Gtanks (2012 tanki) and I HATED it. I spawn as a recruit with smoky wasp m0 and there is a staff sergeant with m3s!  I think you vets are looking at 2012 tanki with rose tinted glasses. Oh and there's no mouse controls and the game runs at 15 fps.

I'd rather have that manpower used to make an actually balanced version of tanki.

Gtanks is not an accurate resemblance of 2012 Tanki; In fact, it resembles 2010 tanki; Yes there is no mouse controls, but the FPS should be good and the thing where you play with staff sergeants is not real.

Would creating an "old graphics" version of Tanki be feasible? Yes, in fact it probably wouldn't be too difficult.

Would creating an "old mechanics" version of Tanki be feasible? No.

They have the mechanics saved somewhere, how do you think tanki ripoff got them in 2016?

The only problem here is the servers that's why I suggest a paid version.
