This question has been bothering me.  In the poll, I voted for "hope it will get better", but I know that will never happen based on what Tanki has done to the game in the last couple of years.  "Habit" and familiarity have something to do with it, but I think I know the real reason I still play (not with this acct...too high a rank and battles are boring)

I just played in a battle that was FUN!  That's right FUN!...in Tanki, yep.  Not just a grind, not just to finish off boring missions so I can compete economically with the buyers, but FUN!  It almost never happens any more with the all the lopsided battles, the new legion of mission mults, the total lack of teamwork and community, the ridiculous rank bracket spread, the waiting in queue for DM matches, MM squirting you into the last two minutes of a battle, the, well you know what Tanki is like now, I need not belabor the sadness and flaws of Neo-Tanki.

Anyway, once in a while, there is still a good battle.  You get in on the start,  there are only three or four ranks, and all the players are trying to win.  It's really FUN!  That is why I still play Tanki, because occasionally it is still fun.

The absolute tragedy is that Tanki used to be fun all the time in the days before MatchMaking (The Paint Separation update was actually the beginning of the end of good Tanki even though that update was not bad in itself, it marked the start of the downward spiral).  We had lots of choice and control over almost everything...it was easy to find whatever kind of match you wanted...ease. challenge, just to finish a mission, teamwork, gain XP, or even grind for crystals...whatever you wanted.  Once in awhile a player would put a mult on his opposing team but now there are way more passive mult-like players than there ever were.

Now it is maybe 1 in 20 or 30 battles that is fun (maybe even as bad as 1 in 50).  Previously it was more like 4 out or 5 battles were fun.  That's why MM is so hated, it has taken Tanki from almost always being fun to being fun every once in awhile.  And I still play Tanki for that one rare fun battle.  And that i why MM is so obnoxious and toxic...it is what stopped Tanki from being fun except on a very rare occasion.

Couldnt agree more . In the past i just scrolled around to see where people were playing . Familiar names , not in friendslist , but just familiar names , and join in . After the battle was done ( 15 min battle , so in the time there still were tactics ) , and the game was good , many people stayed for another round .

Now , short battles , everybody doing their own thing , no chance of repeating the game , very limited maps .

I know what somebody will say ... you can go pro , sure i do , but there since missions do not play a role there , most of the times i play like the 3 or 4 maps where the friends are . This wasnt the case in the old system ... maps like Chernobyl , Molotov , Esplanade , ... all very present in the old system , now nothing anymore .

In MM i'd say 1/50 is GG  , and even in pro it has gone down significantly since the missions are not done in 1 or 2 games making people stay there instead of pro .

I only play very occasionally now. Basically only after updates to see if Pony Tail Boy and the Devs have made any smart decisions for a change. So far the answer is basically NOT. And from the vlogs the future doesn't look any better.

I don't even play Tanki anymore. Now to get myself off to the forum.

Congrats Tanki, you've lost another loyal player.

I've learned a lesson from this: Never give money to game companies unless you wholeheartedly trust them! (e.g do NOT have a track record of constantly changing things/de-valuing things that you PAID for) I've realized that these companies are little more than thieves and scammers...waiting for the right time to shut down the game and run away with YOUR HARD-EARNED money!  AG, you've lost my respect. You used to be in my eyes a game company that actually CARED and was DIFFERENT from all the others! Now I see I am mistaken. You're just as bad as all the other companies out there.

Oh and please update the forum because the tab button does not work, like many aspects of your "game".

Tanki has had problems since it came out of beta. Yes, they have done away with a lot of the bugs. Good job Tanki and Thank you for that. There was an underlying problem that Tanki ignored and is still ignoring. When one change is made, other changes have to be made as well. Cause and Effect, the Yin and Yang, call it what you may. Tanki ignored the problems they created and instead of going back and analyzing the code to see what problems were created (or will be created) they came out with updates to counteract the mistakes they made. I guess it's easier to add more code than it is to delete code and rewrite it.

How many times have we been told over the years that Tanki is going through some changes and the problems will disappear in time. Then we were told that they are working on switching over to HTML5 and the game will run more smoothly. I'm coding challenged....meaning when it comes to coding, I'm very ignorant. I wonder if the problems Tanki is having now will migrate over to HTML5. One thing is for sure. When Tanki has gone to HTML5, we will still have problems. Knowing Tanki's track record, if there are problems in the coding will they correct the problem or put a bandaid on it hoping it will go away on its own. Right now, there are so many bandaids on Tanki, even the bandaids need bandaids.

For those who will still be here next year, we shall see how Tanki handles its new problems. Will they stick to their present track record? Will they learn a few new tricks to make this game better than it is? Do they know what GIGO means? Will Tanki take some of the burdons off the shoulders of its players and become responsible for themselves? Will they police themselves or leave it up to us? Too many unanswered questions.

I dunno.  While I'm never a fan of AG (or APL as they are on transaction receipts) they could be worse.  Much worse.

Nearly ever pc game I've got/had is now you get the basic game on CD which often doesn't run unless you run an updater on Steam.
And Steam just nerfed my entire games history by dumping my OS in December, so most games I've got are coasters now and any I buy from now on have to be non-Steam.

At least Tanki's still runs...

I still like tanki. I do MM to get the missions done, and the containers at the end of a streak combined with the missions give me enough drugs to not be wholly useless.

When not doing missions, I play either no-drug or space or xp/bp pro battles, which are actually fun. Recently I was in a long-range sniping contest 1vs1, both of us with Viking+shaft in lost temple, no drugs. That was fun. Also, no-drug Monte Carlo is common and also fun. Space battles are the best, if you can find a populated non-parkour one.

I like alterations somewhat. I want to stick around and see what happens with the upcoming overdrives, it’ll be a major change. Maybe a good one, maybe bad.

Then the devs will balance it (they’re often a bit heavy-handed, I expect Vikings OD to be nerfed), and I’ll get used to it again.

The real reason, if it was an option, is that tanki can run on surprisingly crappy computers. Or else I’d’ve switched to Tank X long ago.

I know some awesome games that don't need Steam!

If you're interested, you can PM me about it.

Well, TX’s drugging isn’t as bad, and it is a little more balanced. But I like the feel of TO, and oddly enough, the look.

And TX has terrible sound effects. Seriously, the rail gun sounds like a Hollywood pistol with a silencer. Thwip-Thwip.
