Challenges! ‘Bruh, challenges. Another feature in Tanki forcing you to play MMs 24/7  <_<’

Cheer up, bro! Challenge isn’t such an annoying thing. That’s why I am here to share my tips on efficient star hunting!

_________________________________________________________________________

What are Challenges?

Challenges are in-game time-limited events in which players collect stars from matchmaking battles to unlock tiers and earn various rewards, including containers, supplies, crystals, paints, and much more. Premium accounts give you double amount of stars earned, while battle passes are one-time purchased items which give you additional tier rewards in Challenges.

Do you know?

The concept of ‘stars’ emerged as a result of the second edition of the largest in-game event in Tanki Online - War. The invention of ‘stars’ gave rise to another large scale event in Tanki Online - Star Week, which replaced the previous similar event - Crazy Weekend. On 14 December 2018, Challenges officially replaced Star Week to become the largest regular in-game event in Tanki Online.

Each Star Week event lasted for a week, but Challenges last for roughly a month. The amount and variety of rewards in Challenges have also improved drastically.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a bunch of facts, let’s get the ball rolling! Do you want tips for hunting stars effectively and most importantly, win the ultimate JUMBO PRIZE of the Challenge? Read on to find out!

TIp # 1: Set a daily target!

Your daddies, mommies and teachers may tell you to set a daily goal to get works done efficiently. If you are too lazy to obey in real life, then why not in Tanki?

Let’s take Challenge #2 (i.e. February 2019 edition) as an example. The Challenge lasted for 28 days, and you will need 2000 stars to get the ultimate jumbo prize - Hornet XT (and Railgun Legacy for Battle Pass owners). Therefore, you will need 71.4 stars each day on average to get the ultimate jumbo prizes, provided that you play every single day during the Challenge. (35.7 stars each day for premium tankers). You may want 5 days off during the Challenge, then you will need87.0 stars per day (43.5 stars each day for premium tankers), a bit tougher than ‘no day off’. This is to say, that you will need to play at least 29 MMs a day, spending you more than 3 hours and 37 minutes a day in total in Tanki, if you have chosen to play without Premium Account.

Do you have time to spend 4 hours on Tanki? This is why setting a daily target in Challenges is so important. Bear in mind, if you have decided to fight for the jumbo prizes, you will have to fight against time. Setting a daily target can help you manage your time well and prevent you from falling behind your desired progress.

For me, since I am a schoolboy, and I am super busy these days, my goal is to reach tier 20 only (i.e. 434 stars). Using the method above, can you calculate for me whether I can still reach tier 20?

mbpjzs.png

Answer:

No. I should at least get 434 / 28 * 23 = 356.5 stars at this moment in order to catch up with my progress. Poor me…

Tip # 2: Stay away from high-rank battles!

Why?

1. High-rank tankers often have better turrets and hulls than you, making them easier to dominate the battle and make them unplayable.

2. High-rank tankers are usually heavy 'druggers'. If you lack supplies, you won't play efficiently in battles. Even if you are a 'drugger', you will need lots of supplies to resist their strikes, and in the near future, you will run out of supplies.

Everyone has a different point of view on the word ‘high-rank’. For me, I consider players 4 ranks higher than me as ‘high-rank tankers’. E.g. I'm currently at the ‘captain' rank , so tankers ranking ‘Brigadier’ or higher are considered high-rank to me.

(Some might think that the GS (Gear Score) should be taken into account instead of ranks, which somehow makes sense too!)

2e2dkkp.png

(Major General ! Sorry but that's too high-ranked for me...)

As the name suggests, don’t battle against high-rank tankers.

‘But battles are chosen randomly by the matchmaking system!’ some might say. Here are my 3 pieces of advice:

-   When you are brought into a high-rank battle, leave immediately*, especially when your team is losing or when the battle is halfway through. (Fastest way:  ‘Esc’ --> ‘yes’.)

-   (This is from my observation) Clicking ‘quick battle’ shortens the waiting time, but it often brings you to high-rank battles. I did an experiment by clicking ‘quick battle’ 10 times, and out of 10 trials, I was brought into a high-rank battle for 6 times. (In other words, the chance of ‘quick battle’ bringing you to high-rank battles is around 60%.) To increase your chance of getting into similar-rank or even low-rank battles, select specific game modes in the playlist  (see Tip # 4). This trick worked for me, and hopefully, you did too!

-   Find a friend with a much lower rank, and play in groups with him/her. This trick can almost ensure that you will not get into high-rank battles. (But there are drawbacks, see Tip # 3)

* It is recommended to stay in the battle if:

  1. Your team is leading, or even dominating the game.

  2. Your team has more players than the enemy side.

  3. You think you are good at that game mode.

Tip # 3: Avoid playing in groups.

What are groups?

Group, also known as ‘Battle group’, is a feature of the Matchmaking system which allows players to enter battles together with their friends and clanmates. You no longer have to look through the battle list to find a battle with free spots like in the past. However, the waiting time is longer than usual. Also, the invention of ‘battle group’ makesinvitation of friends into battles no longer available.

Playing in groups makes battling more fun indeed. But on the other side of the coin, there are drawbacks. Let me explain a bit.

  1. Most would already know, that playing in groups increases the waiting time of battles. This is because the matchmaking system has to search for a team among thousands of battles with 2 or 3 slots, which will take some time.

  2. Owing to the situation above, playing in groups would most likely bring you to battles at the middle stage. You will lose time gaining points, and getting 3 stars is therefore harder.

  3. If you are grouping with friends with a higher rank, you will most likely be brought into high-rank battles. (see Tip # 2)

So, if you are hunting for stars, it is strongly advised to play individually instead of groups.

Tip # 4: Choose game modes wisely.

Some players simply play game modes randomly, which is not recommended. In fact, wise choices of game modes can help you grab even more stars.

Focus on game modes you are good at

Before doing so, it is advised to play all 7 game modes at least once. While playing, think whether that game mode suits your gaming style. For example, if you feel like you perform exceptionally well in solo battles, Deathmatch and Juggernaut would be your best choices. If you like to move around the map rather than just destroying enemies, you would definitely prefer Control Points.

For me, I am good at Assault and Capture the Flag because I like attacking and defending.

Once you find out your strengths, play on those game modes. Finishing 3 stars will be much easier.

Choose modes suitable for star hunting.

I understand that this might be a bit subjective. Anyways, here is my short review of 7 game modes:

Deathmatch (DM)..................... Difficulty: ★★★★★

► Game rules are simple enough.

► Being a solo game mode, DM battles are fair enough. The best ones in the battle get 3 stars

► Consume lots of supplies.

► Battling can be difficult as this is a solo battle.

► DM battles seldom end earlier than the time limit.

Team Deathmatch (DM)............Difficulty: ★★★

► With teamwork and mutual understanding, your team can dominate the battle.

► With overdrives and healing allies, consumption of supplies can be reduced

► Sometimes it is hard to resist the enemies’ attack, especially when they are roaming around your base.

► It is frustrating when your teammates stole your kills and eventually earning more stars than you.

Capture the Flag (CTF).............Difficulty: ★★

► Rather than destroying enemies, capturing flags and returning flags give you a lot of points. This can help you move up the scoreboard and make 3 stars easy.

► Since not every player is focusing on killing, destroying enemies is much easier.

► It is not always easy to capture a flag.

Control Points (CP)...................Difficulty: ★★★

► Rather than destroying enemies, capturing points give you lots of points.

► As the mode is about attacking and defending points, you can be easily killed.

► CP battles are always intense, so they seldom end earlier than the time limit.

Assault (ASL)............................Difficulty: ★

► ASL battles usually ends earlier than the time limit.

► Capturing flags in the red team and killing in the blue team give you lots of points.

► Once a team dominates the battle, it is almost impossible for the opposite team to resist.

(But this leads to the first advantage of ASL)

Rugby (RGB).............................Difficulty: ★★★

► Rather than destroying enemies, capturing balls give you lots of points.

► It takes some time for the ball to respawn and drop into the map, so the efficiency of playing is quite low.

► RGB battles seldom end earlier than the time limit.

Juggernaut (JGR)......................Difficulty: ★★

► Earning 3 stars can be very easy if you consider a JGR battle as a DM battle.

► If you are playing as the juggernaut, earning 3 stars is almost guaranteed if you fully know how to control a juggernaut.

► Same as DM, you will need lots of supplies for this game mode, unless you manage to become the juggernaut.

► Battling can be difficult as this is a solo battle.

► JGR battles seldom end earlier than the time limit.

Tip # 5: Equip drones.

Drones are your best helpers in the battlefields. They make your tank even more powerful. There are 15 drones in total, which can be equally divided into 3 categories, Assault Drones, Defensive Drones and Support Drones. With the help of drones, you will earn more points than your teammates, and 3 stars will become a piece of cake.

There isn’t the best drone to be honest, because the power of the drones are unique and cannot be compared. I personally prefer the Driver drone, which is available in the garage from Warrant Officer 5 onwards, costing only 50,000 crystals.

14j4ufm.png

By equipping the Driver drone, each kill gives you a speed-up of overdrive recharge time by 10-30s. The more you upgrade it, the faster the overdrive recharges. More overdrives not only reduce the consumption of your supplies, but also benefit the team’s efficiency and bring your team to victory, allowing you to earn 3 stars more effortlessly.

:excl:  Drones do not directly give you points. They help you in other ways that enhance your efficiency in battles.

Tip # 6: Try your luck to get free Premium times.

Why premium?

On top of its many benefits, premium times allow players to enjoy privileges during Challenges. Premium tankers can earn double the stars earned in Matchmaking battles. In other words, Premium tankers are able to reach the ultimate tier of the Challenges (e.g. Hornet XT for Challenge #2) twice as fast!

Before the kickoff of Challenges, do you still remember your reactions when you received premium times in containers? As fantastic as it may seem to newbies, YouTubers of Tanki Online are like ‘Uh! Premium again!’, if you watch their container opening videos. But with the new advantage of premium accounts, everyone is begging for premium times!

How to get premium?

:excl: Containers

In containers, there are chances to get 3 days of premium (uncommon) and 10 days of premium (Rare)

:excl: Contests

Creativity contests: Digital art contests as well as craft contests! (e.g. Memes contests and «Deja Vu» contest 2017)

Newspaper contest: Weekly questions, writing contests, and sometimes digital art contests!

E-sports: All kinds of cybersport tournaments, like XP/BP tournaments and Clan tournaments!

Festive contests: Contest with festive themes (e.g. 2018 HallowMINE Contest and New Year Marathon 2019)

V-LOG contest: Video of the Week! (sometimes)

:excl: Giveaways

Tanki sometimes does giveaways in the game or in the official Facebook page or in the official Discord channel through promo codes!

You should pay attention to Tanki Online Youtubers, too! They often do giveaways in their videos. SImply follow their instructions, and wait for the results!

:excl: Shop

The most direct and easy way to get premium times is to purchase them in the shop.

Yet, buying isn’t a good option, and I don’t recommend doing so. (More in the section below.)

But if you insist to buy, you should not make ‘a la carte’ purchases, because, in my opinion, the price does not worth it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Should I buy the battle pass and premium accounts in the shop?

It depends. If you have a stable income either from yourself or your family, it is ok. However, if you are still a student and are financially incapable, it is strongly recommended not to make purchases.

szxw28.png(Each battle pass cost you 4.99 USD. The price of premium account varies with the length of time.)

Let’s talk about the battle pass first. Please be reminded, that the battle pass is only valid in only one challenge, in other words, you will have to buy a new one for the next challenge. You might develop a reliance on Battle Passes, and this keeps you buying the Battle Pass for each challenge. So, it is suggested not to buy the battle Pass unless you have a stable income.

If you insist to buy a Battle Pass, buy it at a later stage of the Challenge. Whenever you buy the Battle Pass, you still receive the prizes according to your progress.

For premium accounts, I strongly advise not to buy them. Why? Because you can get them for free! The methods are already mentioned in Tip # 6.

xd9x5x.png

(Another option for buyers is to purchase this bundle. You can save 2 USD when compared to 'a la carte' purchase)

~~ So, that’s my guide to Challenges! ~~

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Challenges can boost your account’s economy.

It is just whether you’re wise enough.

I will use the word ‘efficiency’ to conclude this guide.

When fighting in battles, remember you are aiming at 3 stars.

Keep an eye on the leaderboard, show off your formidable tactics,

And BOOM! 3 STARS!

Thank you for reading!

I hope my tips will make your road to 2000 stars an easier one!

That’s me, Tyranny. Over and out.

Fifth place was not awarded.

Original Contest Announcement

Hello there, tankers. We hope you are enjoying the game and its many new features. After a break, the Newspaper is back and we are here to offer you an outstanding opportunity to earn some in-game goodies.

What do you have to do to get your hands on these prizes? Well, read carefully. Tanki Online has much more new features than you can count on the fingers of your hands. We have drones, new alterations, updated Matchmaking maps, weekly and seasonal challenges and other features that are still relatively fresh of the development desk and that tankers still need to learn more about.

This is the reason we are turning to you. Pick whichever new feature you like, know or consider important from the past months and write a comprehensive guide about it. To give you an idea how a good guide looks, here are some illustrations from the Newspaper archive:

The Mid Ranker's Handbook: Gameplay
Gameplay Analisys: Parma XP/BP
Mission: Possible - A Guide to Completing Missions

* these articles are here only for example and you do not have to follow step by step their format or range.

With that being said, let's proceed to the rules. Please read them carefully.

1. The minimum range of the article is 1 500 words. Articles that do not meet this word limit will not be considered.
2. Plagiarism (stealing someone else's work and pretending it is yours) is strictly prohibited. All entries will be closely checked and convicted tankers will be banned not only from this competition, but also from upcoming Newspaper writing contests.
3. Please submit your entries only via this PM. Entries posted in this topic or elsewhere will not be considered for the contest.

Judging Criteria:

Quality and quantity of provided advice - 60 % of total points

In other words, how helpful your guide really is, whether it contains just basic information and facts or some advanced tips and how much of information you really provided.

Originality - 25% of total points

We will judge what kind of approach you have taken, if your guide contains some unique elements or style, or if it only follows the basic structure.

Use of visual features (Images and/or videos) - 15% of total points

A good guide should also contain some images or even a video that can explain the problematic on a visual example. This gives the reader a better picture and helps him to comprehend your words better.

And now to the point that interests you the most.

PRIZES:

First place winner will receive 120 000 crystals, 10 Containers and either a hull modification or turret modification or drone or alteration of his choice. The absolutely best entry will also be published in the Newspaper as a go-to guide.

does it have to be in english? I mean... you said that the french newspaper has been merged into the EN one.. and you didn't specify that you only accept english...

and really... it's not fun for anybody if it's always the same few people winning... no one else will bother because they know they don't stand a chance

maybe winning the prizes is fun for them, but participating won't be

Yes you can, but bear in mind that it has been specified that the guide should be about new features, so you should focus on the new stuff about Shaft, e.g. alterations.

Your chance is plain 0% because you are not even trying. Stop fooling yourself with pointless excuses.

As the guide should be about new features and few of them are expensive, like the drones, I suggest you to use the test server to play around with these features and take some nice pic. Good luck.

You could also do something on the mobile.

By "hull modification or turret modification" do you mean hull/turret (e.g. Viking M3) or do you mean skins (XT, legacy, demon), shot colors, and paints?

hull/turret, not skins.
