Does tomato sauce go in the fridge or the cupboard???

For me, if its brand new and hasn't been opened. I put it in the cupboard.

But if it's used / opened. I store it in the fridge.

That's what you're supposed to do.

Are you talking about the tomato sauce that comes in a can that you make marinara sauce out of or the tomato sauce that comes in a bottle aka ketchup?

Tomato sauce I store in the cupboard until ready to use. When I make marinara sauce, there's no tomato sauce left over. The marinara sauce I store in the refrigerator overnight to let it ferment a bit.

Ketchup I store in the refrigerator. I don't care for warm ketchup.

I keep it in the fridge (once opened), but I don't think it has to be kept in the fridge.

It's a precautionary thing really. Ketchup and lots of other things often have enough sugar (look up "water activity in food") and/or vinegar in them to self-preserve, but not if contamination is introduced.

One of my pet hates is people who don't used a clean spoon or knife every time they get some jam or something from a jar. Getting any amount of butter / breadcrumbs / whatever in it just provides a nucleus for mould etc. to grow on.

Usually cupboard but sometimes (summer especially) it goes in the fridge. A lot of things that can be kept out in winter and parts of autumn and spring go in the fridge for summer, so it’s not unusual for us.

If we're talking about ketchup, this is what Heinz says:

Here's Heinz's official stance on the issue:

Because of its natural acidity, Heinz® Ketchup is shelf-stable. However, its stability after opening can be affected by storage conditions. We recommend that this product, like any processed food, be refrigerated after opening. Refrigeration will maintain the best product quality after opening.

I saw some ketchup that had been opened but not refrigerated. I don't think it's suppose to be reddish brown and smell like vinegar. But, then, that's me.

Ever went to store ?

You would see them in outside in the counter or something. Means the sauce producers have prepared it to survive in normal room temperature. I recommend to keep in fridge since it prevents any kinda spoilage.

Yeah, we all remember the masses of bottles of opened ketchup sitting on the store shelves(!)

Just go outside and film yourself splashing it on people's faces, then upload it to YouTube and make money.

And get sued for all the money you made posting it on YT without the victims' permission.

you should store it in the shelf...... i think

it already has enough preservatives to leave it as a souvenir for the civilization of 4044. (if you are reading this in 4044 then ..... awkward)

better option
