April Fool's Joke — Update to In-Game Chat System

Since 2,629 people actually CLICKED the link to get the "Early Bird" bundle, it looks like there's quite a bit of demand for this feature. Maybe we should really implement it. I'll speak with Hazel today, maybe we can get it done before the end of April.

Just delay it for 3 years like every single damn update

These players should get a reward for not deleting their posts. An extra Early Bird bundle maybe.

we all get it perfectly.what he or she is trying say dont charge for talking, just limit the characters per player.do you really think that people will pay to chat more?

Wow, just wow. It now got to the point that we need to pay to chat

I was actually happy when reading the announcement. but I lost it when I read that you can buy 'extra words'. What happened to freedom of speech?

ok nvm about that. The emoji packs in the shop is actually a smart idea. But tanki is now officially #paytochat

What if I like to chat a lot with my friends?

your not making this game better by making players pay to chat.. what happened to our freedom of speech.. you just took this away from us just . that's what it really comes down to it a bonus for you and nothing for the players who pay real money .. this might be a violation of our human rights ..

Wait a minute it actually is a good update. The only problem is some people don't spam, they just chat a lot. Its not fair to set a chat limit for them too.

OK so basically you CAN spam as long as you PAY Tanki money...

Great money making scheme you got there devs, great job, give a pat on your back

bruh I like to use the CHAT SYSTEM. And now it's pay2talk :'D these devs trippin. The reason the 'average characters' is so damn low, is that most players are banned in chat for dumb reasons. I can literally go through 1.5k characters in 1 paragraph of stuff for school. Imagine 1 paragraph art something I care abt. I pray this is a joke,, you can literally put all spammers on 'Ignore' and never see em again. There is ur solution.

I'm sorry, but really?!?!?!?!?! Tanki is totally Pay2Win, you even have to PAY in order to type in chat?! "Oh, but Me0w, that's to prevent spammers! It's to help the game," you say. BUT IT'S STILL DUMB AF. Please stop with the GARBAGE updates, and make Tanki great again. Please. I know I sound really rude, but seriously. There was a line and you developers freaking crossed it. Smh.

Well, it already costs $18 USD to change nickname, so you can see where this game is going. So sad. #bringbackoldtanki

Great update to fend off spammers and trollers.

Will this update also impact the forum?

I hope that the forum will not be impacted like this because when I write ideas and suggestions in the forum I use far more than 20,000 characters.

Now I remember, I do not use chats because I do not speak English very well." This update will not bother me.

Have i commented on this topic before oh  Its not unimportant forget it

Don't think you can sink any lower than this Tanki; the greed of the company has reached a whole different level this time. Limiting players to 20 000 characters is actually an excellent idea. But it should STOP there. Once those 20 000 characters are expended the player will be effectively mute.

Instead of doing the right thing once again you have seen this as an opportunity to make money. I am shocked by this. This is absolutely disgraceful.

What happens if the players that insult and use profanities the most have deep pockets, did you consider this?

Total wasters.

I don't see anything about PMs included in the description for this update so I assume PMs don't use up characters since makes sense right? PMs aren't public messages

Maybe some clicked because they knew it was a joke, others just because they wanted to see how much they were asking for this item . 2600 isnt a lot , or do you think so ?

I think it's a pretty decent number for less than 12 hours.

There should be an option to translate some words to other languages, for example: you click enter then a symbol to tell the system to translate the following word, could be like this: /attack and the system tranlates that word to other languages depending on the other user settings. /attack could become /attaccare; /defend /flag could become /difendere /bandiera...

Emoticons available in Parkour and Private modes for those that have Chat Pass.

I actually like the idea of the auto-translate feature. Not sure how viable it is, but still interesting.

Most of them didn't delete it because they wanted to help me keep up the joke... but I suspect that there's a minority that didn't delete their post because it still hasn't dawned on them that IT IS a joke lol.

It's was no joke that was survey. They test our reaction.

Lol, no it wasn't a survey. To the best of my knowledge, at the present moment, devs do not even remotely consider turning chat into a paid feature.

Decent number?!! If I'm not mistaken, awhile ago thousands more tankers would have come across that link and clicked it, but I guess you'll say it's not true since you all deny the game is dying.

Dying? I think the game is doing pretty decently considering that:

  1. it's been around for 10 years
  2. it didn't even start out as a game, it was simply intended to be a showcase project for a Flash gaming engine
  3. you've been fairly active on this account (and probably have others)

Don't get me wrong. I don't mind that players criticise the game or the company. Criticism is welcome because it fosters growth. On the other hand "your game is dying" and "fix the bad updates" doesn't quite qualify as criticism, because it fails to point out any specific ways that we could fix the "dying game" and "bad updates". It's like coming in last in a race and your coach telling you that you just need to run faster if you want to win.

when will the containers be given out? ;p

Later today. I'm told they've just been paid out a few minutes ago.

Glad you liked it  :)

Well, the game is gradually becoming more and more pay to win, more after the recent Challenges update.

When weekly missions were introduced, they introduced harder missions and needed more work to get the rewards, so developers increased the value of containers.

With the release of challenges, they reduced the number from weekly missions to balance the change. But doing challenges for a non-buyer isn't easy, even with the 1750 stars. But are challenges even worth the effort for a non-buyer?

An average player who gets 2 stars every battle will need to play 3.6 hours of battles to get those stars or about 32 battles. The player will be consuming supplies every battle too.

AND for all this, he will be getting:

15000 crystals

11 containers (this was supposed to be received from weekly containers, but now you need to play challenges)

50 repair kits (and he would consume way more than that while playing about 875 battles)

150 of DD and DA (again, the consumption will be way more)

120 of SB and Mines(even less compared to DD and DA)

90 batteries (they last for 13 battles, the player played 875 battles)

6 paints and 1 skin.

The amount of supplies and time the challenge takes, a non-buyer who saved a lot of supplies won't be able to complete more than 2 or 3 challenges after which supplies count will become 0.

While, for a buyer the rewards are so good and the time taken to complete the challenge is much less.

  1. it's been around for 10 years
  2. it didn't even start out as a game, it was simply intended to be a showcase project for a Flash gaming engine
  3. you've been fairly active on this account (and probably have others

Let me just state it once and for all, then I quit the arguing because I already said I was going to. Sink your own ship if you'd like, I've done what I can.

First, a refutation of your points. Then, my own points.

  1. Doesn't matter. It got popular, all you had to do was change the game according to what players want, and you would have retained your players.
  2. Again, doesn't matter. It became a game. People liked it. It got switched. Many people openly said they were leaving because of the changes.
  3. No one has been active on my account except me (that was a joke). Yes, for about three months. Because:

  1. I like the game. Sort of. Guess what? The game still has inklings of good things. I can see how it was good, before, and I can see where it went wrong. It's a cool game with nice people playing it. This is the first ever video game I've played, and I like the atmosphere of the PLAYERS.  I do not like many updates, including:

            1.1: Challenges

            1.2: The new missions

            1.3: MM

            1.4: Integration of servers

  2. Challenges are bad. There, I said it (mods will probably delete this now). It makes every battle a drug war with no teamwork, because everyone knows that if they get first, even on the losing team, they get more stars. So, what now happens is that:

2.1 Most players won't share overdrives,

2.2 They follow the flag-bearer in the hopes that he gets killed, so they can cap,

2.3 Players will block their teams' flag and prevent anyone coming to cap the enemy's flag, then when the flag-                          bearer is killed they cap it themselves.

2.4 @jaydevjaydev said it quite well, so I won't repeat him.

  3. The new missions are bad. I never experienced the old ones, so I would not be able to explain why. But this is one example of you not listening. Lots of people hated that update and left specifically because of it. Yet you didn't listen. So, whether you think it's doing decently or not, you are in essence scuttling the game.
  4. MM. What can I say?... this is like the worst update ever. From videos and comments, it seems that there was a "Battle!" button that did the EXACT SAME THING. But now I have to get 57K exp just to do parkour with myself. No, I can't do it with others, because they're all no-lifeing to get the challenge done. I am at a good, solid, 0 stars. It's simply not worth it. I only play PRO-battles and parkour, except for in between the challenges when it seems we are released from the maddening influence of stars. On the subject of MM:
  5. Game times. Why on earth is each battle 7 minutes??!?!?! I know, "so we can earn more stars." I'm sure we've all played some super enjoyable 15 or 30 minute battles, so why don't you want to recreate that in MM? Maybe you're thinking that the battles are uneven so you don't want to force tankers to play such long uneven battles. I somehow doubt you are capable of such rational thought, however. But still, it's madness. No, not the map. As a side note, battles should be divided based on efficiency score and GS. That makes it more fair.
  6. Integration of servers: ughh. Really. Now I have to play with the toxic Russians (what is it about Russians playing Tanki that makes them toxic?) and we can't communicate during battles. Oh wait, we can. At least, they can. They say "xaxaxax" or "izi" and I wish I didn't understand them. It's actually really annoying. Anyways, they're often the ones blocking me from capping the flag too, so, oh well. But still, if there's different servers it's more fun for all. Also, apparently there were certain servers that would always have specific battles, such as (I believe) RU1's Noise CTF. But now, with MM, there's something called a wait time. And with MM and other bad updates, there's something called Tanki in it's dying breaths. We have the antidote. Are you going to save Tanki in time? But back to Tanki in it's dying breaths. Now you can't separate servers because that would cause too much waiting time on MM. Is it only me that sees an obvious solution?
  7. Mods are abusing their powers. Seriously, PM me if you think they're not. Don't just say to be careful before I claim it, because I am. I posted above how you had committed an appeal to pity fallacy and that the reason you implement updates doesn't matter, because if they are bad and players leave because of them, then the playerbase (the only way to gauge a games' success) is clearly saying that the update is bad. So, you remove it, or they leave. WE DON"T CARE IF YOU RELEASE A BAD UPDATE. But if you get negative feedback prior to or after the release, then change it to suit what the players want. Because that's the way to reverse the the poison you have slowly injected over the years.

I am not going to continue this in public. If, Cedric, you would like to continue the discussion in the forum PM, then do so.

@Cedric Debono, I hereby challenge you to a battle of wits. If you decline by not sending me a PM before April 15, then I will hold you unarmed for such a battle.

Mods, don't delete this as a post. Take out some sentences if you want, but don't delete the whole thing or you will have proved my point about you abusing your power.

Oh and Cedric, don't use your classic excuse "I don't want to create a wall of text." Make that wall! Talk it out. If you can't, maybe you'd realize something is a problem here.

Sure it's dying, especially since you left it a week ago... If everyone is Brexiting like you, this game will live for 100 years :D

Correction. I left the forum. Don't point to my comment above, I was just saying one last thing and I am really leaving the forum except for the container project, which is just data sorted by me posted on the forum. No, I am not British. And don't fall victim to using sound bites, that's not an educated thing to do.
