Why you should accept the fact that this game is dead and move on

Let me take you through Tanki Online in ~2015:

Unlocking equipment felt special, because as a f2p or even a light spender unlocking equipment was difficult and took a lot of effort as compared to now.

You had custom maps to choose from:

  1. Remember NOISE CTFs? I do. I loved how you could camp on the red team and get a high KDA, but from the blue team you could get some sneaky captures by jumping off the cliff straight to your base. The battle was always about who could capture the middle-area between the blue and the red base, the battles there were always so lovely. I also remember it being one of the most prominent maps for drug wars.
  2. Silence CTFs. Moon silence, I have no words for. Silence was always special. Each side had its unique spots and battles here were always fresh since there were 2 choke points on the right and the left where fights would always be on. And like Noise, one team had the high ground but the other had the advantage of easier captures.
  3. Rio CTFs. Oh man these were so common at lower ranks. I loved RIO. The huge building in the middle, the beach on the sides, and the little higher area on the left with buildings. This was probably my most played map. From using shaft on the sides and rico on the main building, battles here were so amazing.
  4. Esplanade CTF. Probably lesser known but this map was really common among lower ranks, it was huge and capturing flags here was a huge task because all of the routes were really long and went through enemy spawns.
  5. MADNESS CTF. Oh man this map was so amazing. I really hate what they have done to it. Dropping down from the top itself was a chore and then when you actually dropped down you could frag out. The goldboxes here were absolutely amazing.
  6. Monte Carlo CTF. This map was a gem. I played here with railgun for hours. camping with railgun and preventing their teammates from jumping over. It was quite repetitive but it never got old. I also remember fighting my own teammates for cover, lovely map.
  7. POLYGON CP: These were some of the most intense battles in TO, you had quite a few of these on any given server, everyone with a will to farm crystals and the love for goldboxes was here. The point fights used to get so intense here. I loved it.
  8. Aleksdrandovich(I dont remember the name): This map initially came as an event map for the game but stayed and I loved it. One of the few huge maps that remained popular.

I may have missed a map or two but these maps were 90% of my career in tanki online. Thankfully old sandbox has still not been messed with.

Drugs were meant to be used only when you needed them, not the moment you spawned.

Tanki Online was very different from mainstream games.

Community (on forum) and in game was very active.

You actually had English speakers to talk to, the servers were still seperated.

A perfect combination of slow and fast paced combat where you could sit back and shoot but you also had to actively move.

GOLD BOXES. THESE. WERE. SPECIAL. I loved goldboxes back them. I only got them like 1/5 battles and the moment I did hear the siren I could feel my heartbeat rise, I could feel my chest thump. My fingers would shake. And after I did get one, it was all I could think of all day.

YOUTUBERS. For any game, the content being produced about the game is a huge indicator of how well the game is doing, no matter how much intellectually capable moderators argue about google trends not being an accurate indicator, youtube actually is. Old youtubers, Oufa, claidiu, ARABIANNOBLE (please respond if anyone knows him) , TankiHunt, zlolkill, pizzarrific, and a few others I'm missing

AND THIS. is TO in 2019:

Unlocking equipment doesn't feel special anymore. There are so many ways to earn crystals now that the special feeling has just disappeared.

YOU. CANNOT. CHOOSE. YOUR MAPS.

Majorit of the classic maps have died.

Now Mods, please don't hit me with the pro battle argument, but every player knows this for a fact that all of the old maps above have disappeared from the game and when they occasionally do appear in the MM, it's the new version for a 10v10 and you simply can't be immersed in a 7 minute game.

Magnum ruining game play.

This is a fact. TO was seperated from other tank games by its unique flow of battle where you had to be dynamic but you could also somewhat camp. Magnum has changed this. With this you can literally pull of a World Of Tanks and rain shells from one convenient spot on the map. MAGNUM has ruined Noise, Silence, Polygon by ABUSING high ground. You don't even need to put yourself in danger by being in line of sight like you had to with thunder or something else. This is the reason why Noise and Silence have died, Magnums can abuse the high ground and the other team simply cannot play because the magnum is tucked away out of their line of sight.

There's so many drugs at this point, even for F2P players, it's just normal to use them.

By no means am I complaining about drugs, just the quantity of them being handed out is insane.

TO has added features from mainstream games (battlepass, matchmaking, skin bundles, etc) mods would argue that this has kept the game alive, maybe they is correct. But the game is simply not the same as it used to be.

The community, as a whole, is largely dead. I don't know if even the intellectually capable moderators can argue with me on this. But one just needs to take a look at the off topic section to say that the community has died.

Youtubers are gone. There is absolutely no content for TO being made.

This is a multiplayer game, you are supposed to be able to socialise with other players, that is the FUNDAMENTAL idea for a game. But the servers have been merged and I cannot find ONE, one english speaker. I can only assume that this has been done to hide the low player counts in individual servers.

Goldboxes don't feel special anymore. At times I don't even notice the notification on top, and I have no reaction whatsoever to a goldbox being dropped anymore. No, it's not because it was made a supply, it's because the drop rate was increased by such a massive amount that they have lost their speciality.

WHAT DO US NOSTALGIC PLAYERS DO?

Sadly, nothing. We have nothing to do but to move on with our lives. We, as the playerbase have been lucky enough to experience the game in its peak years and unlike some honorable moderators who have oh so honorably moderated this active community over the years, we can see this game from an objective and an unbiased point of view and move on with our lives.

The game has changed and it's highly unlikely that it's going to be going back to it's original state. I reckon that the game is making more money now than ever. It's probably to juice as much money out of this before they switch to TankiX (which actually used to be good before they switched to lootbox based progression) or there new CHA CHING, battle royale game.

It is inevitable for a game to change. Even with the trendy new game, fortnite, people are talking about nostalgia with season 1, saying that the game has changed a lot. These complaints will always exist, games will always continue to change. However, there are several games that have actually outlasted change and have somewhat become timeless. Look at minecraft, look at runescape. Both games have had the same core mechanics for the past several years and still continue to maintain active users. I do believe this game had that potential but that train has already left.

This game will never be like it used to be. All you can do is cherish the summer vacations you spent as a kid playing this, you can be in touch with your clanmates, your friends you made through this game, and you can cherish those memories you had with this game.

My thoughts on this is that with Tanki straight up copying features and mechanics from the other popular games of similar genre, the fact that it isnt a proper Keyboard mouse game is really harming its progress. As a result the devs have to think of more and more convoluted gameplay features which just keep adding to the useless complexity of the game

Tanki back then was unique and for me, thats what attracted me to it. If its just trying to become a typical game, then there are many better free to play games out there, Paladins for example, has no Pay to win features, is free to play and is prospering. Yes the game is a bit buggy but compared to Tanki its way more lively.

EDIT:

I'm sorry for the triple post, the forum had a glitch. After the first post I got an Ngix error, but the post still went through.

Second time I got the "forum is down for maintainance thing" but it still went through

third time the post went through fine

This was not done intentionally

Man, wish I could still downvote this topic. None of these points are important. Plus there's a lot of youtubers that show content on this game like ghostanimators, Mr thunder, skillz, etc.

Just go instead of wasting everyone's time with this kind of topic that's been posted like a billion times now.

Since when have you been playing TO?

As for the content being produced right now.

I can classify every video in 3 types:

1. New skin showcase/mass container opening

2. Goldbox montage (decent editing)

3. Road to x.

The most creative part out of this is the new gold box montage. The editing level has too, reduced quite a bit.

Now take a look at the montages made by oufa, aboodi( don't remember his name that well), portes_s. These were true marvels of editing and quality.

Even the old youtubers that focused on humor, zlolkill, pizzariffic, and one more that I can't quite remember the name of. There's no ORIGINALITY to this content anymore.

Even the old letsplayres, paulius daone, that one michael,  tanki hunt. m4d genius have stopped.

Oh my god thank you. Yes, he is precisely the youtuber I was thinking of. I can't seem to find his old videos on youtube anymore though.

Yes yes. Him. The nostalgia is real. I also remember 2 other YouTubers that have quit Tanki because of your entire post. It was AppieTM and AppleMovies. You have to know at least AppieTM. He were my (most definetly) favorite Tanki YouTuber. My favorite YouTuber is DanTDM, but he unfortunetly never played Tanki. Don't use Noise as one of your "was great-back-in-the-day" points. For nostalgia - maybe. For game-play... hardly.

Noise was bad before Magnum came along.  The map is unbalanced, strongly in favor of Red.

- Red can fire downward with Thunder or Striker or Ricco.  Missed shots still do splash damage or bounce around until they eventually hit.

- Red can use the ramps or... just drop down to mid-level from their base.

- Blue missed shots often just go into the sky

- Blue has only 3 ways to get to mid-level... 3 ramps that can be blocked.

- Key to Noise is controlling the mid-level.  Red has huge advantage in this.

Magnum certainly made it worse, but Red won ~ 70% of the battles before magnum came along.

Noise <3333

It was the only map I played for years, and it's so sad it's not in matchmaking. Loved the hell out of the map - at least 100 special gold catches with viking from Warrent Officers to Field Marshal. I was a frickin pro at any spot on both teams and always knew what gun and hull to use.

Also rip all the polygon cp xp/bp

From what I have read and understand from the forum, Tanki was developed from the minds of two young men as a personal project, an experiment of sorts. They had knowledge, of course, how to code and present a game, but their knowledge was limited. Tanki started out as a very simple game. Then it went into beta.

It had a very small player base, but it wasn't open for public use, yet. It came out of beta in 2009 and open to the public. It grew faster than an invasive vine. The Devs asked players for their feedback....and feedback we gave them. Lots of feedback. They listened and acted upon our suggestions and complaints. Of course this took time, not over night. The rest most of us know.

Now, here is my opinion and strictly my opinion. I'm not saying I'm right, I may be wrong and all wet. The Devs had limited experience when they made Tanki and was learning as they went along. I think Tanki grew faster than they anticipated and may have gotten overwhelmed. Along the way, more people were hired and probably some with a bit more experience.

Hackers came and nearly ruined the game...another field of learning. What to do about hackers? How do you stop them? There must be a way. A lot of problems started popping up that the Devs had never encountered before. I, personally, believe that the Devs were flying by the seat of their pants. Learning as they went...and probably still are.

Meanwhile, some problems went by the wayside. Maybe the thought that a problem is minor now, so we'll get back to that later, but later became later and later until one problem started interacting with another problem and the domino effect came to being. At this point, the Devs are trying to modernize Tanki to keep up with the other games, but some of the underlying problems still exist. If one portion is changed, it may affect another portion, seemingly unrelated. Case in point...Vulcan begins to overheat when fired continuously for a long length of time. They tried to decrease that burning, but when they did, they found out that it also affects Firebird's natural burning affect inflicted on other players. They didn't realize that the two turrets had to be isolated. I think they felt that instead of isolating the turrets, it was easier just to nerf Vulcan. But when they did that, it caused other problems for the player.

To summarize, I believe that the game got too overwhelming and it is still overwhelming. Occasionally, you still see some of the old problems pop up, like spinning turrets, which was a big problem at the beginning. Alternativa is a small company, compared to most big games. Without sponsors, the Company will remain a small Company with big problems. But that is their decision for their own reasoning. I saw this happen with 2 other games, years ago, very similar. The problems got too overwhelming even for sponsorship. The decision game much too late and the owners were forced to sell. One sold the game and the other sold the Company. I hope this doesn't happen to Tanki, but the possibility exists. I'm not the expert, but I think they need to grow the staff more than growing the game by leaps and bounds. This last can of worms, the unscheduled maintenance and the shut down of Pro battles, is a good example of what happens when problems are not nipped in the bud before they are allowed to mature and affect other aspects of the game. They got run over by one hugh snowball.

These are my personal thoughts based on years of playing Tanki Online. Thank you for reading my wall of text. If you didn't, that's okay, too.

I have recently played this account last Friday night will do so again tonight.

You can't be sure that the old YTers stopped making video content because of tanki. It could just be because they'd rather have a normal life or that they found video making to be a bit too repetitive.

And as for the topic itself, again, if you want to leave, then just leave. We'll leave tanki on our own terms, not when someone tells us to.

That certainly does not explain the massive popularity of Noise before the release of magnum. While red had a better team keeping up a higher KD, capturing flags was somewhat easier for the blue team.

The concept of one side having the high ground and the other side having the better protected base is common throughout many TO maps. Noise was one of the most played CTF maps before the release of magnum,

Gosh, those Monte Carlo battles were the best. I remember this one player named bonjourcomputer would be in a Monte Carlo battle every single day, all day. You would never find him outside of one. Every day I would see him online and "Monte Carlo" on the right side of his name. Played with him a few times as well, he was a really good Shaft.

It was also where a glitch had happened that made me able to rack up 212 kills with 34 deaths.

Did I say "several YTers quitting at the same time"?

Noise was only popular because you can easily exploit it's flaws. Resulting in easy and fast crystals.

That's so not true. If it was popular because it could be exploited, then nobody would play the blue side. There were so many NOISE CTFs back then. So many people including myself can agree that Noise was their favorite map.

Yes several youtubers did quit in around the same time period.
