Why you should accept the fact that this game is dead and move on

Recommended Posts

Well unless I have an "Earn 10,000 score" or a "Top 3 x 15", I get around 2,000 - 4,000 EXP a week.

I get a decent amount of crystals from battles and containers. I save up weekly containers so I wouldn't spend the crystals I have on something I'd regret. My Ricochet protection is going to 34% on Tanki's Birthday. I decided to invest in the last two upgrades of Ricochet to get it to M3 so i could use less crystals to get more %. If not, I would have put those crystals into making my Isida M4 or my Titan close to that.

I'm gonna MU my m2.9 hunter one more time to get that last set of stat boost that I can get, I'm also gonna MU my m3 Viking and thunder which I already said, and if I have any crystals left, it'll be used to upgrade a module or two. Railgun and even shafts are starting to become problematic for me again. Edited by DieselPlatinum

50% on MU 75% on speed ups is equal to paying the price of the next modification...

No one (except buyers ) have the funds to MU to next modification completely on 50/75 sales.  They don't happen very often.  The moment you MU on a sale less than that you are losing crystals.

Actually, I think it's possible to get an m4 by marshal, sure you would have to by a kit, but as long as you only play to do missions and MU once on each equipment during sales after the first 3 MUs, I think you don't need speed ups.

My m3 thunder and Viking are both on their 7th step, will be on 8th following the upcoming sales.

What Kit did you buy at Major-General that gave you a Thunder M3 to start MU-ing already?

Raiden kit, it was only $57. Bought it late March I believe.

A shop kit?   with real $$?

Of course a buyer can get M4s the moment m3s are unlocked.

That was not the discussion.

Yes, you are right about the drug usages. Even I have started to use them every chance I have.

I thought you quit, no?

Only big buyers can do that, small buyers like me can't.

Well the discussion was going from m3 to m4 by Marshall.  But you needed to buy in order to do that - which proves my point.

And $57 is more than a small investment.  I call players buying battle pass small buyers.

$57 might be quite a bit at first but in the long run, it's not much. The battle pass is only cheap if bought once, however it resets so you would have to buy it every month if you want the gold tier rewards, which will add up.

Either way, it's from the shop and gives a big advantage for that rank.

My point still stands - most players can't get an m4 by marshal unless... they spend real dollars.  Very few F2P tankers have the funds to buy a kit at Lt.General then MU both major components to m4 by Marshal.

If miraculously that somehow happened - they'd have nothing else.  1 m4 combo (and maybe some m2s) - that anyone with multiple modules can easily nullify.  M3->m4 = 13%.  Stock m3 module = 35%.   Going to m4 with no other options effectively makes you lose 22% on your attack.

Let me take you through Tanki Online in ~2015:

Unlocking equipment felt special, because as a f2p or even a light spender unlocking equipment was difficult and took a lot of effort as compared to now.

You had custom maps to choose from:

  1. Remember NOISE CTFs? I do. I loved how you could camp on the red team and get a high KDA, but from the blue team you could get some sneaky captures by jumping off the cliff straight to your base. The battle was always about who could capture the middle-area between the blue and the red base, the battles there were always so lovely. I also remember it being one of the most prominent maps for drug wars.
  2. Silence CTFs. Moon silence, I have no words for. Silence was always special. Each side had its unique spots and battles here were always fresh since there were 2 choke points on the right and the left where fights would always be on. And like Noise, one team had the high ground but the other had the advantage of easier captures.
  3. Rio CTFs. Oh man these were so common at lower ranks. I loved RIO. The huge building in the middle, the beach on the sides, and the little higher area on the left with buildings. This was probably my most played map. From using shaft on the sides and rico on the main building, battles here were so amazing.
  4. Esplanade CTF. Probably lesser known but this map was really common among lower ranks, it was huge and capturing flags here was a huge task because all of the routes were really long and went through enemy spawns.
  5. MADNESS CTF. Oh man this map was so amazing. I really hate what they have done to it. Dropping down from the top itself was a chore and then when you actually dropped down you could frag out. The goldboxes here were absolutely amazing.
  6. Monte Carlo CTF. This map was a gem. I played here with railgun for hours. camping with railgun and preventing their teammates from jumping over. It was quite repetitive but it never got old. I also remember fighting my own teammates for cover, lovely map.
  7. POLYGON CP: These were some of the most intense battles in TO, you had quite a few of these on any given server, everyone with a will to farm crystals and the love for goldboxes was here. The point fights used to get so intense here. I loved it.
  8. Aleksdrandovich(I dont remember the name): This map initially came as an event map for the game but stayed and I loved it. One of the few huge maps that remained popular.

I may have missed a map or two but these maps were 90% of my career in tanki online. Thankfully old sandbox has still not been messed with.

Drugs were meant to be used only when you needed them, not the moment you spawned.

Tanki Online was very different from mainstream games.

Community (on forum) and in game was very active.

You actually had English speakers to talk to, the servers were still seperated.

A perfect combination of slow and fast paced combat where you could sit back and shoot but you also had to actively move.

GOLD BOXES. THESE. WERE. SPECIAL. I loved goldboxes back them. I only got them like 1/5 battles and the moment I did hear the siren I could feel my heartbeat rise, I could feel my chest thump. My fingers would shake. And after I did get one, it was all I could think of all day.

YOUTUBERS. For any game, the content being produced about the game is a huge indicator of how well the game is doing, no matter how much intellectually capable moderators argue about google trends not being an accurate indicator, youtube actually is. Old youtubers, Oufa, claidiu, ARABIANNOBLE (please respond if anyone knows him) , TankiHunt, zlolkill, pizzarrific, and a few others I'm missing

AND THIS. is TO in 2019:

Unlocking equipment doesn't feel special anymore. There are so many ways to earn crystals now that the special feeling has just disappeared.

YOU. CANNOT. CHOOSE. YOUR MAPS.

Majorit of the classic maps have died.

Now Mods, please don't hit me with the pro battle argument, but every player knows this for a fact that all of the old maps above have disappeared from the game and when they occasionally do appear in the MM, it's the new version for a 10v10 and you simply can't be immersed in a 7 minute game.

Magnum ruining game play.

This is a fact. TO was seperated from other tank games by its unique flow of battle where you had to be dynamic but you could also somewhat camp. Magnum has changed this. With this you can literally pull of a World Of Tanks and rain shells from one convenient spot on the map. MAGNUM has ruined Noise, Silence, Polygon by ABUSING high ground. You don't even need to put yourself in danger by being in line of sight like you had to with thunder or something else. This is the reason why Noise and Silence have died, Magnums can abuse the high ground and the other team simply cannot play because the magnum is tucked away out of their line of sight.

There's so many drugs at this point, even for F2P players, it's just normal to use them.

By no means am I complaining about drugs, just the quantity of them being handed out is insane.

TO has added features from mainstream games (battlepass, matchmaking, skin bundles, etc) mods would argue that this has kept the game alive, maybe they is correct. But the game is simply not the same as it used to be.

The community, as a whole, is largely dead. I don't know if even the intellectually capable moderators can argue with me on this. But one just needs to take a look at the off topic section to say that the community has died.

Youtubers are gone. There is absolutely no content for TO being made.

This is a multiplayer game, you are supposed to be able to socialise with other players, that is the FUNDAMENTAL idea for a game. But the servers have been merged and I cannot find ONE, one english speaker. I can only assume that this has been done to hide the low player counts in individual servers.

Goldboxes don't feel special anymore. At times I don't even notice the notification on top, and I have no reaction whatsoever to a goldbox being dropped anymore. No, it's not because it was made a supply, it's because the drop rate was increased by such a massive amount that they have lost their speciality.

WHAT DO US NOSTALGIC PLAYERS DO?

Sadly, nothing. We have nothing to do but to move on with our lives. We, as the playerbase have been lucky enough to experience the game in its peak years and unlike some honorable moderators who have oh so honorably moderated this active community over the years, we can see this game from an objective and an unbiased point of view and move on with our lives.

The game has changed and it's highly unlikely that it's going to be going back to it's original state. I reckon that the game is making more money now than ever. It's probably to juice as much money out of this before they switch to TankiX (which actually used to be good before they switched to lootbox based progression) or there new CHA CHING, battle royale game.

It is inevitable for a game to change. Even with the trendy new game, fortnite, people are talking about nostalgia with season 1, saying that the game has changed a lot. These complaints will always exist, games will always continue to change. However, there are several games that have actually outlasted change and have somewhat become timeless. Look at minecraft, look at runescape. Both games have had the same core mechanics for the past several years and still continue to maintain active users. I do believe this game had that potential but that train has already left.

This game will never be like it used to be. All you can do is cherish the summer vacations you spent as a kid playing this, you can be in touch with your clanmates, your friends you made through this game, and you can cherish those memories you had with this game.

Spot on post. The only other thing I would add is that Matchmaking is a joke. I have yet to be put in a match where I have a competitive match. I am not sure what criteria they use, but it is just wrong.

Returning to this topic, and ever since TO's bday, I haven't seen the server load graph rise above 20k other than one or two times.

Im still not sure what ppl mostly complain about. The game is so much more friendly to f2p players than it used to be. In my clan we have at least 2 of them and they both have close to m4s before gismo and both have at least 6 m3s at marshal. With all the free crystals and drugs we get each week, its hard to see how free players cant compete. Even drones, when I equip, dont make much of a difference in my final battle score. And for some reason, every time someone mentions the state of tanki in a battle, it is always accompanied by swearing and then insulting other players which somewhat makes me wonder if some will just always complain no matter what

If you play in Clans/groups you tend to do a lot better than players joining a randomly composed team.

6 m3s... total?  3 turrets and 3 hulls?

If I equip Trooper drone in DMs it makes a significant difference in where I finish in the battle.  Those 15 seconds of all-supply boost enable a much greater survivability upon spawning.

@wolvering

1. When I group with friends we do tend to place highly, but I think thats bc they are all strong players. I actually struggle when in q group, while the f2p ones tend to do better. Not always but your point is valid. The two newest members regularly show SS with them at top with huge kds and I know theyve not spent a cent. I say that to argue that free players can compete.

2. Yes. Our newest member is the rank before marshal and has 2 kits and another turret maybe, so I lied about 6 I guess.

3. Yes trooper is great but also struggles in nonDM games since you arrive at the battle as your supplies run out. I do use drone sometimes, but lately Ive been playing without since the batteries are xpensive.

1.  agree

2. Seems reasonable (at first I was picturing 6 turrets :o  )

3. I agree  - 99% of my Trooper use is DMs.

Well I do remember the first video I ever put on YouTube

despite how noob that looks, that time was actually better for TO then it is now

Is that Esplanade?  Haven't played that map in YEARS.

Good-ol' Titan-Ricco in the tunnels - with lots of mines...

Ppl complaining about mathmaking:

First I will share my experience which must be as valid as everyone elses lol. Yes there are some bad battles, but many are very tough and close. The shorter time does mean most battles are meaningles, but at least we dont have the long battles like we used to, where half the team would leave and wed spend 10 minutes playing 5v10, getting spawn killed.

An argument: The reason that Battles sometimes are blowouts is that for some reason, some players just are terrible. There are many times Ill squirt into the enemy base with freeze wasp and realize none of the defenders are using supplies. 3-4 quick kills later, our team has scored a flag or two. Tdm battles tend to be closer tho, which is nice
