Overdrives are here!

It is just so very frantic now.  It is only reaction and reaction at break-neck speed.  Not fun at all anymore.

 

My 4th grade nephew has been visiting us for the past couple of weeks.  I tried to introducing him to Tanki and he didn't care for it.  He told me he got killed too much and it was too hard.  I let him play on my account with high MUs and several different turrets.  We also started his own account so he saw the Recruit rank.

 

I told him to try again today with the new ODs and he likes it.  He likes playing his own account but loves playing on my MUed account becasue he is now competitive.  He even got first place several times.

 

So a total newbie can now thrash veteran players with the new OD system...this is like rank 17 (2nd Lieutenant) and he shreds where last week, before the update, all he did was get killed.  He can also do well with his own low rank account where as last week he was getting slaughtered.

 

My point here is that Tanki is now a kid's game that takes no practiced skill....a newbie can now be competitive at any level (up to mid-ranks for sure).  That means there is no real skill required anymore...hack and bash works just as well as practiced mastery.

 

Too bad you (and I) spent all that time and effort to get good at this game...because it's all luck and grind now ($$$ with MUs and drugs of course $$$).

Nephew update:  He is already bored with Tanki and the ODs.  Quote: "All you do is blow up tanks."  The ODs held his attention for less than a week.  If I were Tanki I might be a bit concerned...when you rely on "the next new thing" to sell your product, you always have to have a next new thing.  I wonder if the ADHD market Tanki seems to be going for now will be as lucrative as the tried and true old guard strategy players that have carried Tanki for ten years.

Overdrives from worst to best updated (I didn't know that Hornet's OD "ignores" Double armor and protection modules which lets you deal full damage to the enemy and I didn't know that Wasp's bomb can destroy the player who dropped it)

 

7 Wasp

6 Dictator

5 Hornet

4 Titan

3 Hunter

2 Mammoth

1 Viking

Good list but Mammoth is very useful in Golds and Assault mode, think about it

Yeah it is but I find m3 mammoth slow for me (maybe m4 is better)

Reporting a glitch; After using vikings overdrive it does not let me shoot even if i have full reload for a few seconds. please fix this, thanks.

Well, Idk if it's a glitch or bug or not, but I'm leaning more towards that it was intentional.

What I got from Livestream is that Dictator will have to ability to at +50% at least to overdrive counter of team mates and it can do it to full too maybe but this effect can not be shared with other dictators - and wasp bomb will blow up sooner and wasp maybe not be destroyed by it

Well, Idk if it's a glitch or bug or not, but I'm leaning more towards that it was intentional.

Tried it with Thunder and it seems the interval where I couldn't shoot equalled the reload time of my Thunder so I'd say that is intentional. 

 

I'm not sure about Railgun though. All the allies and enemies I've seen use it, their last shot has the shot delay of the Railgun they're using and it does normal damage. I guess Rail is somewhat better to use with it that Thunder in that case as it instantly reloads and not Thunder.

when a friendly dictator activates overdrive and you're within it's overdrive range, not only will you activate all supplies but you will also have 50% overdrive charge added. this effect works on all hulls except other dictators, for obvious reasons.

That must depend on what turret you're using on it.

Twins on Viking just carries on shooting after OD ends - ie no interruption.

Hazel explained why vulcan was nerfed but he said devs were considering buffing damage of it

 

Also importantly hunter will be given the ability to remove the mammoth overdrive BUT not do any damage to the mammoth itself

And devs were also considering another counter to the overdrive

any news about godofwar's overdrive? cause so far we only know that it'll be offensive and that it'll be something coming out of the front of the hull.

I think something was mentioned about being able to shoot through walls and crowd-control, also the hull can be hit by mines (there was a joke made that now mines are magnetic) and the hull can strafe/move at the same speed in all directions

 

Also there was a talk about a new turret which has damage in between railgun and magnum and is a mix of railgun thunder and striker, it is like railgun but instead there will be a blast and something was mentioned about heat seeking like striker missiles

thanks! okay now that does sound OP too. i asked because i was considering between saving for godofwar or just buying dictator at the next sale but now both overdrives seem equally OP.

All tanks should get Overdrives at the same time:

 

The first OD should be given at minute 5

 

The second OD at minute 3

 

The third OD at minute 1.

 

We should also be able to save ODs, like for the end of the battle. And maybe tanks should show when they have ODs ready.

 

But I don't like Overdrives, no even the original.

 

Hunter is a joke in maps like Parma and Monte Carlo. How will you balance that?

 

Mammoth is OP on smaller maps like Sandbox and Noise, and in campable maps when we have 10 and 20X Mults.

i think that he also said that if giving allies 50% more overdrive proves to be insufficient, they'll increase it further to +100% charge?

It is 50% at least and devs said it could go higher than that too

Very likely indeed, and players got the help of overdrives (mostly mammoth's overdrive I suppose..;p) trying to catch the golds. ;)

They really want Dictator's usage to go up. 

It helps only teammates tough right? normal players mostly care about score/crystals

But I'm sure group players will quickly learn how to pair the overdrives and use the maximum potential of them furthering the divide between randoms and coordinated groups

And it's good that they won't let other dictators get the effect so it can't be shared by 3 people in a group so devs know it can be exploited so let's see how it goes

What annoys me the most is the selfishness of Mammoth users, they only save it for golds and refuse using it to save the point in Assault or CP, they should release there's no more x10 or x20 gold drop rate

I've seen Mammoths saving ODs in Noise, so it isn't that they think it's 10 or 20X still, for them even 1X is worth to save the OD.
