Targeting Play Time?

Recommended Posts

First does anyone care? Is there any point in making suggestions anymore?

I have argued often that the majority of players available for MM battles play only about four hours per week.

Nearly all the focus of missions, challenges, and wars have been on the few players who play more than ten hours per week, significantly more than one hour per day, every day.

I suggest that focus be broadened.

There needs to be some focus on rewarding the players who are only playing for 30 to 60 minutes most days. There need to be incentives that make that average player want to play more than 30 minutes, but if it requires 70-80, well, that just seems to be too much for most players. Life happens, and it often won't allow for much leisure time.

I really don't know what specifics to suggest.

I am confident most players have simply accepted they will get few rewards. People with budget for entertainment, willing to spend some of it on this game will have little reason for concern. They can expend some cash on crystals or the specifics whenever the mode is right, but what about the mostly committed players? What about the players that are glad to do their part, but can't spend more time for whatever reason?

Personally, my pattern has settled into logging into two of my accounts most days and accomplishing two, maybe three matches to clear at least one mission. Most missions take more than one day, or get changed. There is simply no incentive to play significantly now, unless I know I can play at least an hour every single day. Then rewards are pretty solid, but how many tens of thousands of speed boosts does one need?

We don't accept ideas for increasing rewards. Such an idea might only get accepted if it's a particularly interesting/original proposal, but yours is rather vague and generic.

I don't see the problem with playing the game for 30 minutes a day. For most people that's exactly how much free time they are prepared to allocate to an online game, amongst more important things like sleep, work, studies, family and other games/activities. Playing the same game for 4 hours every day, on the other hand, is not healthy and should not be encouraged.

But for people who do play a lot, the incentive is to complete challenges to get additional rewards, which would be impossible to obtain for someone playing less than 2 hours a day.

Why exactly is playing the same game for four hours each day unhealthy?

I know many gamers, not just professional players, who play the same game for much more than four hours each day. Sounds crazy, I know, but four hours in Tanki isn’t as long as you may think...

Staring at a screen for prolonged periods can cause health problems, like eye issues. It also means you are sitting still fir 4 hours, which everyone knows is unhealthy.

Obviously no one is going to sit in the exact same position for four hours. Plus taking breaks is what most people who have long gaming sessions do anyways.

What I mean is that I don’t understand how some people can think four hours of the same game every day is too much. They have obviously never seen any MMORPGS (and other types) where you are literally required to spend a large amount of time every day in order to even do somewhat decently in the game. Obviously Tanki isn’t an MMORPG, but you get my idea.

And let’s not forget about 90% of the Tanki youtubers who grind the game for 24 hours as soon as the new challenge begins in order to get to the top tier straight away. So yes, four hours sitting exactly still and staring at a screen is pretty unhealthy, and obviously no one with common sense does that (without taking breaks, etc.) But I don’t get why four hours playing the SAME game is unhealthy. What does the game have to do with the amount of time spent playing it?

Spending 4 hours playing the same game or multiple games, even while taking breaks, is unhealthy.

Then you’ve never truly played video games before...

Just for the record, I did go on a 4-5 hour spree once. I eyes were tired and bloodshot by the time I finished, and I slept for a long time. And yes, I took breaks.

Wow that happens to you from four hours? Jeez, what about all the streamers like Ninja who play for 12 hours a day?

They will develop eye problems and probably die a few years early if they keep it up.

I guess it depends on both the person and the game their playing.

If you're playing a game that requires a lot of skilled shooting and aiming even at far distances, then I wouldn't recommend playing it for more than an hour and a half.

If you're playing a game with texts or just moving around or etc, I think you'll be fine as long as you take breaks often.

I guess Tanki can require lots of movement and shooting at long ranges, especially if I’m playing with Shaft (or Railgun in an XP/BP for example). So you’re saying I should limit myself to 1.5 hours of Tanki a day. How absurd.

It wasn't to increase rewards!

It was to change focus.

The focus is on the four-hour per day players. You seem to agree that is wrong.

Actually, forget it. Nobody cares, and Tanki won't survive much longer anyway.

Well tanki's a bit different, most battles are in medium sized, and even the best camping spots have more than one path of access. Tanki's fixed to the point where you need to focus on the enemy that's right in front of you rather than the one that's on the other side of the map.

Yes, tanki is considered a skill shooting and aiming requirement game. But also, I consider it an exception, because unless you're playing xpbp or whatever map that favors long range turrets or trying to snipe a firebird that's right in front of you spraying fire at you, I don't think it's enough to cause eye problems.

In that case I don't fully understand what you mean. Players are given an opportunity to choose their play style - either play for 30 minutes only to complete their daily missions, or play a lot longer in order to get extra rewards from War and challenges. Once again, you need to make specific proposals on what you think should be changed and how it will affect the game.

I'm surprised you're asking that question. Look at any article on the internet (of which there are thousands) which explores productivity, procrastination and leisure. Most articles put the "safe limit" of gaming at up to 2 hours per day. You will find that people who play more video games are less productive and follow a less healthy lifestyle. You may know a lot of people who play longer, but that doesn't mean that these people are making the right decisions, or that their lifestyle should be encouraged.

It’s ironic because here you are (in some sense) representing the developers, advocating to play less of their game...
