The eighth edition of the Women's World Cup has been described as the most important in history. Kicking off in  Paris on Friday.

The FIFA Women's World Cup is an international football competition contested by the senior women's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The competition has been held every four years since 1991.

The seven FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments have been won by four national teams. United States have won three times including the last one in 2015. The other winners are Germany, with two titles; Japan and Norway with one title each.

Six countries have hosted the Women's World Cup. China and United States have hosted twice, while Canada, France, Germany and Sweden have each hosted once.

Ettie is a young chicken with a passion for life and football. She comes from a long line of feathered mascots and is the daughter of Footix, the Official Mascot from the 1998 FIFA World Cup France.

Ettie’s name comes from the French word for star.

Until 1991, FIFA was organizing a World Cup Women's World Cup, no round of formal tournament was held.

The tournament was hosted by China and was attended by 12 teams at which the American team won the title.

The United States won the most prestigious team in the World Cup of Women in 1999 and 2015 with two more titles.
