Do you feel emotional/nostalgic when you remember good old days on Tanki?

This might be weird but...

Ever felt emotional/nostalgic when you remember the best moments in Tanki? And that today you can't feel the same moments as previous one..

Some of you might have almost cried, well I almost did too because old tanki was soo fun that I was playing for hours a day but now it's completely different

Definitely. Literally the first day I had an account, I spent the whole day completely dominating an Atra TDM with Hornet-Twins. Then the time I got Firebird M1, learning to turn my turret with it and actually using it competently... Rico M1, making actual friends in the WO ranks... Railgun and Shaft in Monte Carlo... Playing pocket Isida for my M3 best friend in Polygon CPs... Buying XP/BP and playing my first real battles with it... No way can those actually be recreated. It’ll never be the same, and nor will Tanki...

I wish they could put a box in game creation with pro pass, and select 2014 battle style.. :)

I miss seeing friends, joining battles, with them- getting know people- that was the best thing about tanki- the players...Now it feels like playing on a playstation alone, and not MMO game it was..

Well I guess the players have voted with the feet, and now average of 8k if your lucky..

Of course, I feel emotional. But it's not because the old tanki was fun. Let me explain it.

We have a deep subsconscius. It has a lot of things including memories, dreams and more inside. If you are growing up, and if you started struggling the life, you start dreaming about good things because of your brain, soul and subsconscius. And beside dreaming, you also remember good memories of your childhood. Good memories also include your old Tanki days.

Now, you may ask ''why would my subsconscius consider tanki's old days as good memories?''. It has one simple answer: Because you always tried to get into higher ranks and tanks, and when you succeed it, your brain considers it as a good thing. Because you got something that you really wanted to have.

I started playing Tanki shortly after it came out of beta. Lots and lots of bugs and glitches, then came the hackers....lots of hackers.

I remember;

  • Respawning as a Ghost tank. No one could kill me, but I couldn't damage them either.
  • Spinning turrets were fairly common
  • I'd shoot and 2 seconds later the turret would respond
  • Flying tanks
  • Speeding tanks
  • Stair stepping tanks. especially in Rio. With that hack it was easy to get to the top of any building.
  • Black tanks without color (other than black) without any details, like a shadow
  • Floating supply boxes just out of reach
  • Blue crystal boxes that contained 10 crystals. Later, that was changed to 100 crystals. At the same time everything in the garage had another zero added to the price to compensate.
  • Making battle plans because everyone spoke the same language.
  • Battles were 30 minutes long. Later reduced to 15 because many players complained they got bored with long battles. You know the rest. ]
  • But Tanki was still fun. Today, it's a grind.

When I think of old tanki days, I think of supplies being 3 minutes long and spammed because there was no cool down. Did I miss that? Hell no.

Also crystal boxes used to drop, I just farmed them. Did I miss those? Admittedly, I did a little at first. Got over it though.

Also secret rooms used to be a thing, and boy were they fascinating. Did I miss them? Oh Hell yes I miss the secret rooms.

When I think of old days, I remember good ol' STGs, Wasp-Fires, Polygon 999 Time CPs in XP/BP, and just a lot of other fun events I used to have within my large group of friends.

It doesn't really make me emotional, I still enjoy playing the game with new friends and new features, but every now and then it does suck to think that the old friends and moments are gone.

It is just nostalgia, in general, that makes some people feel emotional. It is not specific to the old Tanki. People in a few years will probably get nostalgia of today's Tanki.

I find it difficult to get emotional for such a time, even though I did enjoy it a lot, because I recognize there where also several bad memories associated with it.

For some reason we tend to overlook those setbacks and focus only on the pleasant memories, which isn't a problem in itself but could lead to a deceiving view about the past.

My nostalgia is with old Tanki. The only nostalgia I'll have with modern Tanki is the grind to get stars. That leads to players burning out a lot faster and quitting sooner than they would have without the grind.

I only feel bad whenever I see the number of online players in Tanki's Website and compare it with that of 2013-2015. And also, every time I think of the Crystal Boxes that existed in this game.

In my opinion, Crystal Boxes gave great fun to the Battles even though it quite distracted them.

Yeah I remember those. On Silence, there was one on the lower level of blue team at the end of the pipe. Mammoths used to farm crystals in that spot. For some reason i remember in a battle a Mammoth was sitting there collecting the boxes. I jumped down from the upper level onto the pipe and made my way on top of the Mammoth. :D He self destructed and pushed me off the drop zone and into enemy fire.

Supplies were 45 seconds long and the cooldowns between them were longer. Most often people would fight having one supply active at a time, then take another one, be more powerful for a short while and then keep fighting on one again. Now you are dead at least or useless after 30 secs.

Old supplies were better and far from what you say since they actually had longer cooldowns.

That's not entirely true. The game used to be more simple yet involve more tactics such as flanking, jumping down on enemies, juking around corners, distracting defenders and attacking together in different ways. Now it feels more like clicking on drugs and activating OD's at the right moment.

The pace of players quitting accelerated with updates such as the removal of custom standard battles, adding MM and OD's. Sure, there were some fun events like The War II, but now we have Challenges which are all about grinding already devaluating cosmetics and promoting no-lifers.

I had a three year break since 2014 and instantly I noticed the game is less fun. It's not that I got bored.

MM battles are too short for team combat, DM is somewhat more enjoyable. You can't choose the map you want to play on. PRO battles are dead because of the devs' slow yet aggressive campaign against them.

You got part of it right, though. Nostalgia is involved here as well, since there were more players and friends to play with.

Also, some people will surely get nostalgic of 2019 if the game keeps on going in the same direction as it is now. I must admit that even 2017 and 2018 were still way better than what we have now.

There was a strategy that was a lot of fun.

3 or 4 tanks would ghost inside a Mammoth to get past enemy lines. The Mammoth would get the ghosting tanks into or near the enemy base, stop and distract them while the next tank would come out, materialize and keep going while the others kept ghosting. That one would get closer, stop and start shooting. The next take would materialize and grab the flag. Sometimes it worked out where a Hornet grabbing the flag would still have a Wasp ghosting inside. If the Hornet was killed, the Wasp would materialize and complete the journey to his base. This wasn't done very often because it took a lot of planning and players who know how it worked. But it sure came in handy when the enemy team OP the other.

When battles were 30 minutes long, a lot of strategizing went on with both teams. Wasps and Hornets were used as scouts to report back to the team where the strongest tanks were or the largest group.

Since the battles were so long and everyone spoke the same language, we got to know each others strong and weak points. In a short while, strategy wasn't always planned, but we thought like a team and could figure out the game plan without saying a word. At times there would be a player who seemed to have this strategy thing down pat and we dubbed him our Leader.

We played as a team dong teamwork. Not as individuals on a team playing for themselves. No one cared who got the most kills or who got the cap. It was all a team effort working towards an objective.

Because we could choose our battles, we were more apt to choose one where our strong points laid. We did a much better job at team balancing then the MM could only hope to have.
