Preparation time before battle start

Recommended Posts

Will it be possible to have a countdown like in Tanki X before the battle starts? So let everyone join, RED and BLUE team, 8 players, and once both teams have 8 players, a 5 or 10 sec countdown. At the moment, the game loads and when you joined, the other team have a player using wasp and caps early on forcing players to leave because of an unfair start.

Valid

Completed

When I asked Hazel Rah about why the feature didn't make it into MM (because it was a thing in DM tournaments), he just said there were some issues with it. Maybe it will be added again in the future.

A lot of people complain about how people can capture the flag/points and make kills before most people have loaded in. People also complain about how slow loaders cause an imbalance in team size.

This idea is meant to remedy those two issues. It comes from online matches in Mario Kart, a game with Matchmaking, just like Tanki Online.

The idea is that everyone loads into the game, and when everyone is loaded and ready, a countdown starts. The countdown can be from 10, 5, 3, whatever.

The process goes like this:

1. Select your game mode

2. The Finding A Battle screen with the average time and the loading time

3. The loading screen that actually loads into the battle (the one with an info blurb and a drawn battle scene)

4. Get put into the map, and you sit as a ghost tank until everyone loads. You can't drive. You see ghost tanks appear as they load in.

6. When everyone is loaded, the countdown begins.

7. After the countdown ends, the screen shows "START" and you can now move around. The battle timer counts down from exactly 7:00.

my opinion on this idea;
The game already has a mechanism where the supposedly 'slow loaders' are disconnected from the battle when loading for too long and thus returning them to the game lobby.
As well, what if some one just took a ridiculous amount of time to load, wouldn't it just mean that everybody will have to wait just for that one single player to start the game?
The player who isnt able to join the game might be facing problems from his ends; really slow internet, slow browser or perhaps getting errors and trying to re join the game, needless to say there might be a lot of reasons why a player cant connect to the battle both being technical as well as mechanical issues, and to solve that, again, tanki has a simple mechanism where it disconnects the players who take too long to load and return them to the lobby enabling other players to join that battle.
Regardless, the majority of players have decent network and perhaps the minorities of the minorities face this problem.

So basically, in Juggernaut, the person who has the fastest internet connection (and thus enters game the fastest) mostly gets to play as juggernaut (95% sure about that). This makes sense, because if it was random, it's possible that there would be no juggernaut on the Red team while there is one on the Blue team, so the Red team has an advantage in that regard (can kill enemy juggernaut without the possibility of having theirs killed, as the player who is assigned the juggernaut still hasn't spawned in game).

But this doesn't change how unfair this is.

In CTF, the problem of internet speeds is even worse. You enter a match, and lo and behold,  the enemy team has already captured a flag because they have a player with an extremely good internet connection. You had no chance to defend, as there were literally no players, or just 1 or 2 players on your team to defend the flag (90% of your team was still loading).

Same problem in other modes.

Control points? You spawn, and the enemy already has control over all 5 points.

Rugby? Opponents have already scored one goal.

So I suggest adding a waiting time before starting a battle. Note that this does not refer to the time it takes you to match in a game (matchmaking), or even load into the game.

After around ~50% players from each team have spawned into the game, there will be a waiting time, lets say around 30 seconds, in which players will be immune to damage, and will not be able to score, for example capture flags or take control of points. They will not be able to use any supplies either, like using mines to protect the base before the game even stats. Other players will also be able to join both sides to fill the gap.

After the 30 seconds have passed, all players will be made to automatically respawn by the game and the match will begin. (Basically like how eSports matches are played - players self destruct at around at the 10:10 minute mark, everybody spawns at around the 10 minute mark, and the game begins.

I feel that this change will lead to matches being much more fair for players.

It's for balancing teams - to start a battle evenly - regardless of the reason.

Disconnecting players has nothing to do with it.

TX started 8 vs 8 battles when there were at least 5 loaded per battle.  Each team started with exact same number.  More players get added, one per side, as the battle progresses and more enter the cue.

Was one of the few things TX actually got right.

Well, it is not about the liveliness of the topic, but if the idea has already been suggested or not.

Since your idea, has already been suggested(with yours only being a slight difference in the duration of preparation time you suggest) it gets merged. ?

Yes. I want a minimum 20-30 seconds "pause" at the start of the battle, till all are ready.

Like today, in a Juggernaut battle. My Juggernaut was AFK. Easy kill for enemy team (2 Hornets with Freeze came and enemy Juggernaut). What I did after that ? Simple. I just "run" from the match.
