Suggestion to enable us to delete posts

Recommended Posts

I've never quite understood why we can't delete any of our posts here, like in many other forums, and instead we can only "hide" them.

Hiding a post still means a moderator can see it, and I don't know what's the point in that since most hidden posts are likely to be those with typing mistakes or stupid stuff someone doesn't wanna share with others. No moderator needs to see the content of such posts.

Several posts of mine just seem incomplete at times, or have some vocab mistakes in them, which tends to happen. I don't always feel like editing these, sometimes I simply want them gone, either to repost them or because I changed my mind and figured I have no contribution to make to a certain topic. So why not let me delete them, instead of having of moderator see 2 (or more) posts by the same guy like I'm trying to spam a topic.

These hidden posts also increase a user's post count, even though they're meant to be gone. I'm pretty sure at this point around 10% of all my posts consist of messages which no longer appear to any other forum member, which were intended to be deleted for good.

If this seems like a trivial subject to you, I'll confirm that it is indeed trivial compared to other topics I see here. Just figured I'd mention this because I didn't see anyone talk about it before.

Declined

Don't worry about us - we can handle a few pointless hidden posts taking up space on our forum pages. A more important point though is that players could potentially violate rules and then remove their post. If the post was just being hidden, we can still see the content, while if it gets deleted, we have no way to verify it. This is particularly essential for forum reports - when someone reports a post, we want to make sure we're able to check its content, which wouldn't be possible if the owner of the reported post could just delete the content.

As far as you're concerned, hiding the post removes it from everyone's view, so it has the same function as deleting.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know it was an intentional move not being able to delete them, and it seems like it's for the greater good, so I'm completely fine with it.

And yes I do know that hiding a post is essentially deleting it. I was just kind of concerned by the fact that someone could still read the posts I hide, even if I hide them for the silliest of reasons.

Having this insignificant issue tackled, I'll try to suggest something more interesting next time
