New Game Mode: Football

I have a really cool idea for a new game mode. This game mode which I am suggesting is called "football". In football mode you have to push the ball with your hull, instead of picking it up like in rugby.

 

How football mode would work:

 

The football game mode in Tanki Online would work by having two teams. The players of both teams would not pick up the ball like in rugby. The football game mechanics would be very different. Players would push the ball with their hulls to roll it on the ground just like human players kick the ball. You would also be able to pass the ball to other members of your team and tackle enemy players which have the ball.

 

New map:

 

To make the football mode more fascinating, I would suggest to have a new football map that actually looks exactly like a football pitch. I am not sure whether or not developers would agree on that, but I will not push this too far and let developers decide on this suggestion.

 

Matchmaking and Pro battles:

 

The football game mode would be available in both matchmaking and pro battles.

 

Football mode mechanics:

 

The football game mode mechanics would be applied differently for the ball and gameplay scenario. First of all, the shape of the football ball would be spherical, not oval like the rugby ball. In football, players don't pick up the ball, but push it with their hulls, performs long push-kicks, tackle enemies and pass the ball to their enemies. The purpose of having a football mode is that gameplay and teamwork skills can be different than rugby.

 

Goal bases:

 

Both bases on each map would require one physical prop to make it look different from other game modes. Those props are a net as on a football pitch. The bases would be located inside the net.

 

Referee:

 

A football pitch has three referees, one in the middle and two on each side. I am not sure whether referees would be required for the Tanki Online game mode, but it would be a very good idea to have referee players that observe how the game rules are applied. The first penalty would result in a yellow card and the second penalty would result in a red card. The red card would get you kicked out from the football battle. Players that break the rules would be kicked out by the referees. This works similarly to spectators in eSports games.

You're basically suggesting to add Rocket League to Tanki. It's a cool idea, but I'm afraid that the develomment necessary to properly implement it is way too much. Rather than making a simple new mechanic (like basically combining TDM with CTF, in case of Assault mode), devs would have to design a whole new physics system for this ball, which would allow it to bounce, react to shots and tanks, fly through the air and react to gravity, roll, etc.

 

Besides, unlike the cars rocket league, tanks move quite slowly, so such a mode would probably get boring pretty fast. I suppose the only cool feature is that you'd be able to shoot the ball in order to change its direction, but it's not enough to keep people interested in order to justify the workload required to make this mode possible.

Thanks for agreeing on my post. It would be possible for developers to design a whole new physics system for the ball. Some interests could be added to the football mode if this mode works differently from all current team modes such as CTF or Assault.

Reworking game physics is possible. 

I never said it was impossible. I said it would be quite difficult and time-consuming, which means that such an idea is very unlikely to be feasible due to economic constratints. Developers simply can't afford to spend so much time and effort on a single game mode, no matter how epic such a mode would be. And in this particular case I very much doubt that it would be particularly epic.

I know that it would be time consuming like all digital technology is, really. Just take the example of overdrives. It took nearly 2 years for the developers to rework and create the new overdrives for each independent hull. The same thing goes for the football game mode. With increasingly better and more improved gaming technology, it would be more convenient and possible to implement this football game mode for Tanki Online.

 

By the way, the new HTML5 is soon coming to Tanki Online, so this football game mode would become more suitable once the new version of HTML5 is out and finally released. The new HTML5 would open up the door to new development possibilities for Tanki Online. I hope for the very best to come to Tanki Online.

 

I know that the oofs moments would happen when launching the ball into the air, but that would not be a problem with the new HTML5 technology. Nowadays, everything is possible with today's technology.

This is a football game mode. It is not the same as rugby mode. That's why I suggested it. The mechanics of the overall game play and the ball are entirely different than rugby mode.

 

When HTML5 is released, new game mechanic systems would become possible for new and more complex game modes.

Well, if it gets implemented, im sure 99% of players playing it will use rico, twins, or hammer, if the ball reacts to turrets hitting it.

There's already TOO MANY battle modes.  Splits up the players and makes waiting times for battles longer.

 

 

IF any new modes are added, it should ONLY be for Pro-Battles.   MM can't handle more modes.

They could make the less popular game modes rotate every week. So keep 3 or 4 main ones (DM, CTF, CP, TDM for example) and then keep adding limited time modes which will only be available 1 at a time.

Don't worry. The matchmaking system can handle as many game modes as you like, as long as there are enough servers to keep up with the extra load of more players.

 

We do not need limited times for certain game modes. Its better for players to be able to choose whichever battle modes they wish 24/7. Tanki Online was designed to be a playable game 24/7, except the 5 minutes off during server update.

Well, what I mean is red and yellow cards would be penalties for players that breaks the rules of gameplay in this particular game mode. Players would only get cards if they do something really bad, like swearing, for example.

What? Why did you decline my idea? A football mode was valid.

It's reviewed by the section curators, then decided if it's valid or declined. Or they could start it if they think the devs agree
