I've been to a number of amusement parks...usually watching others having fun going on rides that make me cringe just watching. I don't have a fear of heights but I do have a fear of falling. At the beginning of a roller coaster ride the cars to up a steep hill. When it goes over the top straight down, that's when I go into panic mode. A friend talked me into going on a roller coaster with her. It wasn't anything special, not a mega ride, but did have a couple tall hills, a twister, a really wavy section, a flat platform with a sudden dip. For a roller coaster enthusiast, it would be very boring. My friend took a picture of me....the expression on my face wrote volumes. So, of course that leaves out anything having to do with bungees.

Things that goes around in circles fast makes my stomach do extreme calisthenics. The Merry-go-Round (Carousel) is more my speed. The Ferris Wheel I can tolerate a little better. But it's not the going in circles that bothers me it's the fear of falling again. Goin up isn't too much of a problem, it's the going down with seeing the bottom that puts my heart in my throat. It takes my a few turns to get oriented to it.

In an amusement park not far from my house is a very popular ride. It's  a swing, only your strapped in by a harness, prone position, face down and about 4 feet off the ground. A cable pull you up backwards to the top of a 1,000 foot tower, pauses for a few seconds while the operator moves the loading platform, then lets you go and you swing down towards ground and up into the heavens, then back down again backwards in an arc. The only mechanical part of this swing is the cable that pulls up and lets you go. After that, it's centrifical force and gravity and momentum that keeps you going. The ride ends when you are slowed down enough for the operator to hook the harness and bring you to a safe stop. I get goose bumps just watching it.

Actually, I prefer to watch people playing the games and listen to the Carnies bark, eating cotton candy, hot dogs with all the fixings, a couple beers and walking through the crowd watching, observing, listening. Smiling at the faces of excited children. That's my excitement.
