My thoughts on the game coming from Tanki X

I don't know where to put so here's a gift to game discussion

O boi fun review time from a TX player who got the promocode and wanted to see if TO got any better from the last time he played...

...I hated it.

Your game has the following issues:

  1.   Gameplay:

    1. Supplies are a must and must constantly be bought to stay competitive. Now you may be thinking the same with the TX modules, but modules and supplies are pretty different:

      1. Supplies have no upgrades to them and are limited

      2. Modules have an upgrade system, are more customizable with what modules you bring into battle and have infinite uses

      3. Considering that I am used to modules, I don’t have my Life Steal module which after almost every kill I get heals me a bit. Life Steal was passive so it did this without a press of a button. But in TO do I have such luxury of taking the supplies I want into battle? No. I have to have Repair Kit, DD, DA, Speed, and Mine. In TX I didn’t even use Mine or Speed, I had them replaced with other modules. Such as EMP which only disables modules in TX and every hull can use it.

    2. The physics in TO feel like I’m sliding on ice, like the designers of the tracks on the tanks said “screw friction we don’t need that” and made the tracks smoother than they should’ve been.

      1. I feel like I’m playing with cardboard boxes in this game. There doesn’t seem to be any weight.

      2. The tanks in TX have weight to them, like I’m actually driving a tank with tracks that can (mostly) handle what's being thrown at them.

    3. I get it, the devs need money. But making everything so stupidly expensive and making the most enjoyable way to play the game is to get Premium account? Really? I’ve had to ditch my main account I had in the past because of people spending real money to get better than everyone else. The decision to have all M3’s unlocked at the same rank? The stupidest thing I have seen. Before that I was doing pretty well because not many M3’s were unlocked at my rank. But once they did that, and all the M3 kits were unlocked the next rank I had no chance at all. With this account I used the promocode given to us for TO, the only reason I’m having any “fun” whatsoever is because of the ridiculous amount of containers the promocode gave me. The containers gave me so many flipping supplies and crystals that my M1 Thunder and Viking are almost M2. Before the promocode I was ready to ditch the game all together cause THIS account was starting to get stopped by buyers.

  1. Graphics:

    1. Paints are unique because they are animated? I guess. After looking at the roster of animated paints I guess that’s cool.

      1. TO paints are just “normal” (no effect) or animated.

      2. TX on the other hand had the “normal” paints, matte paints (which makes the tank look like plastic), glowing paints, and paints with a slight 3D effect to them. There was even a version of Roger that was black and the skulls have glowing eyes. But only one animated paint: Spectre

    2. Shells. There are wayy more shells in TO then TX. But from my experience are just a recolor (correct me if I’m wrong)

      1. TO shells are just recolored (again, correct me if I’m wrong)

      2. TX shells are also just recolored (for the common ones), but for the rare ones they are very much different. There is a shell for Twins and Ricochet that make it look like they are firing balls of ice; in the color and the way it’s animated. Thunder and Smoky have shells that have a lightning effect to them. My favorite shell for any turret is one for Railgun called “Beta Tester”. It was only giving to closed beta testers who took part in the Closed Beta Quest. It gives the appearance that the texture for it was glitched and it shoots glitched shots.

    3. Skins. The skins in TO are meh. Let’s be real here, they aren’t really fancy. Just reskins. I do admit though that your XT line was completed while ours weren’t.

      1. You have what, 3 different skins? XT, Prime, and Demonic?

      2. TX has at least 5 skins. Tier 0-2, Gold, and Steel. The only reskin in there is Gold. For other turrets there ARE more reskins than just Gold. Those are event skins and don’t really add much. Unless it’s an animated skin. Your Firebird has Demonic? OK cool. Ours is literally on fire. The devs added another line of skins with XT called XT Zeus. It’s XT but with electricity arcing on it. And o boi is that just the surface of the skins in TX.

    4. Terrain.

      1. Your terrain doesn’t have much detail at all outside the map, or even IN the map

      2. Outside the maps in TX feel so much more real, with the addition of trees, rivers, and mountains. In TX, you can’t see where the map ends and it’s just void. Unlike in Rio in your game where the void is on the other side of the barrier on the beach.

    5. Other little things.

      1. TO doesn’t have many little details in the game. Like the outside of the map, or the tanks themselves. It like everything is made from cardboard.

      2. Different surfaces in TX are made of different “materials” making them either reflect sunlight, or act like a mirror and reflect things. The tanks in TX have actual tracks react to what they are driving over. The wheels ACTUALLY turn. Along with whenever you use a module and animation plays letting people know what you just used. Because there are no indicators by a person’s name telling you what modules are active.

    6. TX has by far better graphics than TO. TO’s graphics are pretty outdated too. It isn’t even a fair comparison with these two games.

  2. The community here is atrocious. After the promocode was announced for active TX players you know what happened? A bunch of TO players instantly flooding the TX Discord and forums begging for that promocode because “they were active TX players”. The CM legit could not receive anymore PMs because the amount of spam from TO players. It felt like a new topic was being created EVERY DAY from TO players. The mods have deleted most of them and now anyone coming into the forums/Discord “begging for promocodes” gets banned. Almost immediately. Every TO player in the TX Discord so far has essentially spammed how good TO is and that TX was a failure and that TO has a fair f2p policy. Most of them avoided stuff like: “yeah ok but we don’t like your game and most of us don’t want you here”. I don’t care that you’re “18 years-old” can you take a hint and realize that we don’t care about you and want you gone from the server? I forgot to mention most TO players that spoke in the Discord ended up getting banned or pushed out by the community because how immature they were about everything. I’m not saying all of the community is like that, but most of the ones I’ve met are.

That’s all I have to say about that for now, post your thoughts below. Or go on a rampage because “I’m just salty that TX is going to be shutdown soon” or whatever.

1. The game play has gotten a lot more shallow as well. Sure, there's all these flashy overdrives and stuff but all what they do is make the game more overcomplicated and lame.

2. Community has largely degraded from what it used to be. Most are K/D braggers, spammers, fanatics, tryhards, and stupid people in general. Forum is still a (mostly) nice place to be, but has gotten quieter over the years

3. Alternava Platform = EA.

4. Devs don't care for their graphics, they have no plans to replace them (most likely because it doesn't make a profit )

5. MM system is rigged to increase your playtime, probably to keep player counts higher for longer periods of time.

Viking is like a wet bar of soap placed in a wet bathtub placed in a boat that has been abandoned in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

If you want to continue playing TO, save for and M2 kit that doesn't include Viking, unless you get accostumed to it. M2 kits start to appear at WO4 in the garage. Don't buy M0 modules, instead wait for M1s or even M2s. You can buy one Drone and start MUing it. Trooper is good at low ranks, it gives you 10 seconds of supplies when you spawn, MU it to get more seocnds, you can use that when the other team is dominating and you're getting killed often.

TO was designed to run on Browsers, that's why it doesn't have the best graphics.

IMO the only issues with Tanki X was

  1. Deserter system.
  2. Performance issues. My graphics are on the lowest settings and my FPS randomly takes a hit every 1-3 seconds. Most likely an unsolved memory leak issue. I had nothing running in the backround
  3. Lootbox based progression. Modules were a neat idea (except for the jumping module) however what's dumb is the fact that the main progression system in the game is based on luck.

If it weren't for those three I would have moved to Tanki X long ago.

1 & 2 - REEEE! Viking isn't that bad. Sure it's less stable than Hunter, and it has the slowest charging OD in the game, but use Driver drone and every kill, every 30 seconds means, less overdrive charge time. Also, if the friendly Dictator and you are both low on health, there's a good chance that the Dictator will share overdrive with you. That cuts overdrive charge time by 50%. And the changes in speed and armor aren't noticeable (100 hp difference at M1)

3. Too bad that Flash will be abandoned completely, just because of a new hull and some bugs that could be fixed straight-up. Tempted to see what HTML5 will be like as well, so I'm not leaving Tanki permanently just yet.

TO and TX are different game, don't come play TO and expect the same. TX had lot of learning from TO and could star on a different gameplay foundation, while TO is blocked by its legacy (you can add new stuff or slightly modify existing feature).

The tank are definitely light, it take ages for a hornet to get track on the ground.

Main difference is indeed the graphic. TO is less details, less fancy, ... main reason is to have it playable on potato powered pc. So no fancy exhausts flame or crystal armour, but we do starting to have mechanical moving parts.

 Gameplay:

Tanki Online is a free-to-play game, so it needs to use consumables in order to generate revenue. If supplies were unlimited like Tanki X modules, then many players would eventually own the whole garage and not need to buy anything else. But with supplies, the game can generate revenue from their continuous purchase.

I personally don't think supplies are a big issue on higher ranks. With the amount of them you get from containers, missions and challenges, the only things you really end up needing to buy is batteries and repair kits, which you can buy in bulk during 50% sales.

Anyway, developers have said that P2W has been a core part of the game from the start, and at this point it's easier to create a whole new project than try to change the economy in Tanki Online.

Graphics:

I wouldn't criticise the graphics too much. TX was specifically made to have far superior graphics, as an upgrade to TO (back when it was meant to replace TO). TX runs on a modernised engine and has much better graphics optimisation. Still, it requires a more powerful PC to run well. For TO it's practically impossible to make significant graphics improvements without ruining performance.

The community here is atrocious.

That was to be expected, and it happens everywhere whenever free stuff is announced like this. Can't really blame the community for wanting to claim such a significant reward and not bothering to read the details, but I'm sorry your mods and CM have to deal with it.

3. Alternava Platform = EA.

EA is much, much worse. TO is free to play and charges $60 for unlocking a special skin. EA charges $60 to buy the game in the first place, and then another $80 (or an insane amount of grinding) to unlock one of the main characters in their game.

Funny how you play for a few hours with only and exclusively the most slippery hull in game without even granting the game enough time to see the  f2p economy and here you are writing a full review. With the current economy you should only have some trouble at the brigadier-marshal bracket, assuming you seriously didn't manage to MU m2s to m3.

Supplies are given for free in amounts so large you literally can't run out of anything save repair kits if you're that reckless.

I couldn't care less about good graphics if the result is I get 10 fps and can barely drive or aim around... I don't know about you.

If you play TO for more than a few hours you will realize you get enough free supplies from completing missions to compete.  I've never bought anything on 2 different accounts and have more supplies than I will ever use.

TX modules - are random - making it much harder to decide on a path for your tank. Buyers on the other hand can buy loads of containers to get ahead, and thus TX is much more expensive if you want to rely on more than luck. Buyers could field a high-strength tank against beginners since there's no rank requirements for modules.

TX had very few maps compared to TO.  Also - if you don't play regularly the League keeps dropping you down to lowest Tier. There is no permanent progress.

As for graphics - that's subjective.  I fund the movement of TX tanks bouncy and horrible and the tanks looked over-sized and goofy - partially due to the horrible camera angle.  TO was miles better on that aspect.

Only if you have absolutely no life and use near zero amount of supplies and hours of gameplay to collect supplies

Its simply impossible to get them for free, with the spending rate (they are literally a must if you want to survive). If i was a regular player my 15k+ stock of each supply vould vanish in months.

Actually, you will run out IF you nolife. Unless you have a battle pass.

Stop trying to complete Challenge & War and you will have plenty.  Those two events are completely optional.

Like I said - have never bought anything and I have tons of supplies.  You wanna play 2-3 hour per day?  Sure you may run out. But that's your choice.

Having some sort of supply-usage restraint also helps. Instead of popping an RK every time a player is damaged, they need to decide if it's really needed.  Take a death or 3 - k/d means absolutely nothing in this game.

Fair point

Yes but actually no. I know this account I ditched a while ago but I still had time to see the economy and how containers affected it. Until I just couldn't play it anymore due to people buying the best stuff that they can to overpower everyone. I might come back to it in the future. https://ratings.tankionline.com/en/user/Soughtnak

Unless the amount of supplies were increased in missions my experience was that I never had enough supplies. On my old account and new.

If your first impressions of a game were bad, would you comeback? I know I had this "new player experience" for only a "few hours", but if it's bad why should I even comeback to this game at all?

If you only do missions and then maybe play with your other account you'll accumulate supplies very fast, because containers give you a lot of supplies. In this account I have around 5k supplies each and around 1k batteries, and the GS is about the same as yours.

Some do 20 missions a week to complete 2 or 3 Weekly Missions to get 2 or 3 Containers and 5 or 6 Weekly Containers. Others like me do 10 missions per cycle, 10 is much easier to complete, but of course, you'll play less and proggress slower.

Then there are Challenges which gives you more supplies and other rewards depending on how much you play.

Battle balance is really bad and that's because of Match Making and other updates.
