A happy accident led me to discover our new Newspaper Team Admin: Hexed.  In an attempt to write an interview, I've conjured up this article. Well, enough from me - let's read!

Hexed

A Wiki Administrator and frequent contributor to the Tanki Newspaper, Hexed has never failed to amaze us with his exceedingly intriguing articles about the various nooks and crannies of Tanki.  Expect him to carry this on as he continues his journey as an Admin.

Hello there, Hexed, can you start us off by introducing yourself?

Hey there! I'm Hex, a nineteen year-old from Pakistan - though most of you know me from my in-game nickname: Hexed. I've been a helper in this game for three years, first as a Newspaper Reporter and a Wiki Editor. Then I was promoted to Wiki Administrator and now, I've also been given the responsibilities of a Newspaper Administrator. I'm currently studying Computer Engineering and love horseback riding.

Well, this is really just everyone's favorite question - how did you end up playing Tanki?

It's quite an interesting story, really... I've ended up telling it in like four interviews now. Here's how it goes: In the midst of a thunderstorm, twelve in the night, a door knock sends chills down my spine. It's really cold, and the goosebumps I've just gotten haven't really helped getting my body warm from the penetrating sixteen degrees of frost. It's vacation days, so everyone is literally dancing through the night every day till four or five, live buzzes and goes on as normal. I get up and try to covertly open the door, expecting a silhouetted figure to set me off. Turns out, it's just one of my brother's friends. I welcome him in, take him to the lounge where my brother and a couple of his other friends are grinding it out on Call of Duty. I go back to my room, then come back twenty minutes later to serve snacks... And there it was, in all its glory - the magnificent Smoky-Hunter M0. The graphics and quality of the game immediately caught my attention, and here I am.

As the game has reached its tenth birthday, many of the players have left, citing reasons such as the Shop or the effects of updates like Matchmaking and Overdrives.  However, you and many others remain dedicated. What keeps you playing?

What keeps me playing is actually a lot of stuff - my jobs, parkour, events and interesting new stuff that's promised to come out.  I'm eager to see where this game goes from now on, it seems like the developers do admit that this game is old and probably won't make much progress in the future, but they're still doing updates.

Moving on to more helper-related questions, so while I was looking around for reporter interviews, I couldn't find your name in any of those.  So did you go through the reporter-esque rite of passage?

Yeah, my introduction to the Newspaper team was quite different. Let me go through the first thing that hindered my progress: bans. Pesky little bans. Anyways they ended up setting me from joining the Amateur Writing Section back a lot and I ended up almost giving up my writings. After I finally joined, I blasted the section with a number of articles I had written and interestingly, the then Newspaper Administrator GoldRock encouraged me to write more and apply for Reportership. This was my breakthrough, and I knew I would make it if I write more. I did what I did and six articles later, I received a direct message from Goldie telling me that I've been formally recruited as a Newspaper Reporter. So that's the complete story of my road to Reportership.

Uhh, okay, that works, though I was looking for an interview, which leads us to our next question: Did you actually get interviewed?

Actually, there was an interview. Read it here.

It says there that you were known as DestroyerPdox. Now that I think of it, I had found you under several aliases while reading older articles in the archives. Could you tell us a bit about the origins of your past and present nicknames?

I won't lie, I spent about an hour deciding on what my name would be for this game. I was already familiar with a lot of games that support name changes - in many cases, it isn't possible or required some sort of transaction. So I knew I would have to get a nice one. I ended up with "DestroyerPdox", which was supposed to be DestroyerOfParadoxes but somehow ended up like that. Two years later, I changed my nickname to "Antartica". Really should've Googled that name, because it was almost three months after that I realized there's also another "c" in there. Embarrassed, I wanted to change my nickname again, preferably to the correct spelling, but it became so popular with the then readers of the Newspaper that someone created it beforehand and saved it for themselves. Forced to change to something new, I took to other games to help me with a one-word nickname. Ultimately, I found inspiration in the "Hexed" black market decal from Rocket League - which at that time was my favorite decal to put on cars, costing around $10.

Quite an interesting tale.  Moving back to the newspaper, what exactly do the Administrators do?

The Newspaper Administrator has the unforgiving job of rounding up papers and pens for the team every week. He takes care of the quality and quantity of articles flowing in and out of the Newspaper, manages the Amateur Writing, the Newspaper forum sections and the Discord server, where all reporters hang out for biscuits and tea in the evening, and makes interesting contests that everybody loves to participate in. Apart from that is the boring stuff, bragging about his Flame paint by putting it on Dictator so that people from the farthest windows in Lost Temple can see it, his forum powers, and managing his team to make sure no one gets stuck on top of a long pole or starts a fight over a tea accident. Whoops!

As an admin, what are your plans for the newspaper?  Any special contests?

Plans? I have, upon discussing many things with the previous Administrators, laid out a roadmap for the Tanki Newspaper. See, the activity of the Newspaper really comes down to how many Reporters we have in our team. In previous times, there were a good number of active people in the team who made it possible for the Newspaper to publish five or six articles every month as part of one big issue.  We’re no doubt understaffed right now, be it unsuccessful applications or a currently on-going crisis of general non-interest in the Newspaper. With that being said, for now, the Newspaper shall publish one article every Friday and run two contests per month. We are also working on a revamped Specials section which will feature shorter review- and guide-style articles paired up with a video made by officially-recruited Videomakers. We’ve already debuted with a basic tester article - a guide on Tankoins. We’re recording and scripting interesting turret and hull guides that will be published monthly starting from this month. That’s something to look for in the future!

[Author's Note: along the way, I misread something and typed some irrelevant stuff.  This has been removed to stop your brains from functioning as the leap of logic in the chat is pretty severe.  This happens on a regular basis; I often have misreading problems when I'm reading.]

so yeah.

wait... i have no idea what this was about.

lol

That's it for now! Expect to see great changes occur in the Newspaper as Hexed takes charge along with Flexoo.  Till I finish my SAT, folks!

Greetings, readers. As you probably know, Hexed has took over the vacant administration position in a bloodless coup. After months of ruthless rule, @Person_Random interviews the new Dictator about his road to new position and his plans in the Newspaper section.

It is interesting to note the differences in the answers to the same question.

In the interview he linked:

Flexoo: Interesting to find out you play football just like I did few years back. But more importantly, how did you get to learn about your second obsession - Tanki Online?

Pdox: It was a stormy night in late 2014, when I was merely flying my Boeing 747 in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, until one of my brothers' friend knocked on the door. Once I opened it, I went back to my rig. After a few minutes, I spotted them on my laptop, engaged in an intense tank game. One look on the screen was just about enough to pull me into this Tankiverse!

Rather fitting for a new Newspaper Admin to make it an even longer story.

I’m just disappointed it didn’t start “It was a dark and stormy night.”

No hate but, I don't think this community needs 3 admins? ,hence ridiculous if you ask me this game is not working good, ignore the message or not it's true

Cg Hex

Personally I do not understand where are you going with this. Most bigger helper departments have 2 admins so that the work they do can be distributed. Most admins still do their regular jobs and on top are managing the teams under them, so having two people is definitely a necessity to keep up with the workload and have someone else to take control when the one of the admins is currently unavailable.

Also I do not see how number of admins is related to the game working or not. Admins are volunteers, so they do not waste any financial resources of the game. Since admins get only the virtual goods which the company can frankly distribute infinitely, the number of admins and helpers is not affected by game being less popular, or broken.
