So my dad and I had this really weird discussion of whether a fork can cut at all or not, he seem to think their great cutters.

Which led to this discussion topic.

I honestly think spoons cut better because it's a spade basically.

What do you think cuts better and why? :)

Fork - because you can always poke pieces of food and just drink the liquids from the bowl.

The question is not which tool is more practical, but rather which tool cuts better. Stabbing is not necessarily cutting.

I remain neutral. Cutting is a back and forth motion that is done with knife. Neither spoon nor fork is sharp enough for this action to done efficiently. However, if you are talking about separating a piece of food from its main component, then maybe a spoon. A fork can shred, but you're not talking about shredding. A spoon can be turned at an angle to get the edge into the food and then do a scooping motion. But, here again, you're not talking about scooping, you're talking about cutting.

What type of food are you trying to cut? A steak? Vegetables? Cake? Pastries? Mashed potatoes? Ice Cream? If I'm cutting a steak, neither one will do the job efficiently. However, if I'm cutting a hamburger, then the fork would be more efficient.

But then, on the other hand, you didn't mention food, food is assumed because of its association with a spoon and fork.

To analyze this further, a spoon usually has a thinner edge than of fork. So, probably, if given enough time and the proper angle of the spoon, the spoon, theoretically, the spoon would be more efficient. To be perfectly honest, I don't want to wait that long to eat my supper. I'll get off my lazy butt and go get a knife.

Spoons typically cut better. Forks pierce, and while I do occasionally use them to slice into/dice up food when I don't want to waste a perfectly good knife, they just don't quite have the thinner shape of a spoon.

also spoons can hold the drops of your delicious blood when you inevitably cut your finger on whatever. can a fork do that? didnt think so

Have you tried using a thing called a Spork? It combines the best of both worlds.

That looks like a spork-knife. Fork and knife on one end and the spoon on the other. I've used sporks before, but never a spork-knife.

Yesterday, I cut a PB&J on marbled rye bread (pumpernickel and rye). This type of bread is very dense with a tough crust. I was able to cut it with a spoon, but not a fork. I couldn't use the back and forth motion to cut, it was more of a scooping motion.

I see humans are evolving.

A fork cuts the gums of my mouth better.

Eewww.

Anyway idk which cuts better, I generally uses a knife to cut. Or scissors. I sometimes uses chopsticks to tear chicken, tho not to chop it. However there are some really thin forks which can cut really well; I have even used a kind of combination of fork and spoon, it's basically a fat fork. And if you're wondering why I commented in each of these topics tanker Arthur bumped in, it's because I followed him and so I got interested in the topic xD
