Bring back the 2014-2015 tanki online

Recommended Posts

This is a game I enjoyed a lot back in the good old years 2014 and 2015. I'm just annoyed about how much'pay to win' it became. I understand, you guys see Fornite making a lot of money because of micro transactions and you guys decided, like many other games, to copy them. But I think this is a huge backstep for Tanki Online, you guys need to give the players more choiches and possibliltys.

With people using maxed hulls and weapons and using every boost that's possible you make it very hard for people that want to play without spending money.

Please make this game possible to play

Declined

We do not accept ideas for reverting the game to a previous version. There isn't a simple "rewind" button, while making a 2014 version from scratch is pointless and too expensive.

Agreed.

Too expensive? Then how did a fan studio make 2010-styled TO? They did it faster than Alternativa made MM and JGR. Pointless?

Haha... HAHAHA!

It's pointless because it would be a huge step backwards. And any game without constant update or maintenance would be shut down due to everyone getting bored and the game being unplayable.

Why not invalid?

Invalid is either for when the suggestion already exists within the game, or it became obsolete because of an update (like PRO pass suggestions after removal of the PRO pass), or it's somehow not a suggestion at all.

Just look at the numbers, mate. We had 80K players peak online in 2014 (best years), 60K 2016. After that we had 45K in 2017 and 35K in early 2018.

A game typically reaches it's peak, then goes down significanty, but stabilises after that as it keeps it's own niche. Tanki had some bad updates such as Global Balance and server-generated battles, so it went down a bit more than you could expect.

Back to the decline rate, in 2018 we had 27K peak. Went down from 35 to 27. Reason was the MM system. Percentage-wise that was a bigger decline than ever.

2019 started with around 23K peak on an average day. After challenges and overdrives were introduced it went down to 14K in eight months.

I'd argue that old Tanki was more fun, but this is subject to opinion. One thing is sure though: the updates you mentioned indirectly made players quit, which strongly suggests that old TO is the players' choice.

First of all, I fixed a typo that you made.

And second of all, while TO made some oopsies like making all hulls of the same weight class have the same HP an M0, M3, and M4, swapping hunter and Vikings stats, giving firebird or any fire related ability constant burn damage of 300 points per tick, and adding archipelago to MM. They made great updates like removing map missions, letting us use our own supplies for pick up missions, separating paints and protection, protection customization, custom controls, and soon HTML5.

And just looking at how high TO could get its player base at one point of the day isn't very good data, we have to look at how many players in total are online throughout the day and we don't even know that.

They had to - we could not pick our maps, so completing those missions would not be difficult - it would border on impossibility.

But then again, they introduced "top-3-on-winning team" missions so... they kind of wash out, don't they?

They had to - waaaaay too many mults in battle, which were not supposed to happen in MatchMaker which leads us to...

The stinking pile of garbage that MatchMaker is.  Possibly a good idea, but implemented so poorly it can be smelled from 3 counties away.

Bring back 2013-2014 it is even better than 2014-2105.

And there you have it, the exact reason why it's pontless to "bring back good old tanki" because everyone has a different opinion about which time period was the best in this game.

That noob Mero is wrong, 2012-2013 was even better!

I think I misunderstood the post. DieselPlatinum wasn't complaining about these two updates.

"I" or "you"?

I understood Diesel's post.  Was saying those were positive updates.  Agree to a point - but - they weren't really voluntary updates, as explained above.  And... they were offset with more (crappy) updates to missions like adding the "finish-top-3-WINNING TEAM" missions.

"You", sorry.

I'm not sure if I agree with your logic. Technically, the only updates they "have to" do are those that fix issues which would otherwise kill the game. Like a large wave of hackers requiring an anti-cheat update, or the closure of Flash requiring upgrade to HTML5. But pick-up boxes were a fairly minor issue on the grand scale of things, so fixing that was very much "voluntary". Same goes for map missions - sometimes not being able to complete one mission (which you can change anyway) is not a game-breaking issue.

Now i think you are winging it... if we can't complete the missions we won't be playing matchmaker - at all.  Even now I spend as much time on Pro-Battles as I do MM.  That could shift even further toward PB as I grow dis-illusioned with MM.

MM needs lots of players (look how bad it is during non-peak times) or it will collapse and go the way of TX.

So, they are not really voluntary as they want to keep the players coming back.

Agreed on most of this, besides that protection customization and paint separation did not improve anything. I'd argue that protective paints were better. You could recognize them far away, and they were all unique so it was important to choose the right paint depending on the situation and your role in battle. You couldn't be too versatile.

And they lots of other updates have been implemented: MM system, Drones, Challenges, removing missions from player-created battles... All of these changes were bad.

And just looking at how high TO could get its player base at one point of the day isn't very good data, we have to look at how many players in total are online throughout the day and we don't even know that.

OK then. On a typical day we have 13K peak (can go a bit over 13K for a very short time), before and after peak it's around 11K, 7K before noon UTC and late after peak. Night doesn't matter that much. My data may not be precise, but you should come upon similar numbers if you investigate.

Around a year ago we had 27K online at peak, and 18K at less popular hours like before noon UTC. About 22K players would be active at 10:00 UTC.

Of course, I can't give you a chart and show precisely how the game's active users keep diminishing every day, but it is obvious that the decline accelerated when MM was added, and gained even more momentum soon after ODs and Challenges were added.
