Extremely low FPS/High Ping in HTML5? Enable HW Acceleration

Many players are reporting extremely low frame rates and high ping with the new HTML5 version of the game, this could be due to many reasons.

  • Your PC is simply not powerful enough, currently HTML5 is more demanding than Flash though developers are optimising it.
  • More commonly, you have Hardware acceleration disabled in your browser.

HWA -as we will call it now- offloads the work of running the game from your CPU to your GPU which is designed to run games and this frees up your CPU for more important tasks.

First you need to check if you have HWA on or off. Works for CHROME & OPERA, I have not tried other Chromium browsers though they should be similar.

Type this into your search bar:
chrome://gpu/

This should bring up a page which looks something like this:

If you see all these options saying 'Hardware accelerated' then you already have HWA enabled and your low performance is caused by something else.

If you see 'Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable/disabled' then you need to enter your browser settings:

Type this into your search bar:

chrome://settings

Scroll to the bottom > Advanced > System > Use hardware acceleration when available

Enable it and relaunch your browser, you should now see 'Hardware accelerated' on the GPU page and experience much better performance.

A more comprehensive explanation can be found in this article should you encounter any issues: https://www.lifewire.com/hardware-acceleration-in-chrome-4125122

Note: If you are still having issues, please post a screenshot of the chrome://gpu/ page in this topic and I will do my best to help you, please also mention your GPU model and if you are sure you have THIS enabled.

Nice work, I noticed this optioned was already enabled for me, so maybe that's why I have had no problems with HTML5 yet. However, it could be unrelated. Nonetheless, great job.

Awesome!

Nicely explained with details and images.

I actually need to disable HW because there's a bug with OBS that doesn't allow Chrome to be streamed/recorded as a Window Source when HW is on, and I forget to turn it back on! Boom - from 60 max down to 20-30 fps and not even an option to enable any graphics at all xD

Anyway, I hope this bug can be fixed soon so I don't have to always forget to turn it back on.

Once again, a very informative and nice read :)

Interesting, there are a few instances where you might want HWA off, for example if you GPU is weaker than your CPU or perhaps you have faulty GPU drivers.

Which browser version and GPU are you running? Make sure you are updated to the latest version and update your GPU drivers as well.

Chrome latest version. have no idea about GPU

You'll need to help yourself here, do some basic Googling on how to find out what GPU you have and how to update drivers.

No its not possible because the i9-9900k supports a maximum of 128GB. Only Xeon server grade parts support 2TB levels of RAM.

were going off topic. shh
