Rework the moderation system

Recommended Posts

This is a thing which has been triggering me for a pretty long time.

When you vote someone, nothing happens in the most cases. So the battle finishes, you leave see like three different chat moderators in the chat smalltalking with others, because they can't do anything else anyways. The actual system is nothing more than stupid, why can't a chat moderator spectate battles and help in banning hackers? Why are there different kinds of moderators (for example chat/battle mods), and not a single kind which can do both, spectate the chat and battles?

Since it gets a little more complicated with the forum, i'd keep it as it is at the moment. But moderators, who look over the game and not over the forum, should be "combined" into one force. It would make much more sense, instead of like thousands of useless chat moderators!

Declined

In case you aren't aware or forgot (I know I almost did), a few years ago we already had exactly what you suggest — chat mods worked in both: battles and server chats. This system was changed, and the mods divided into two teams, so that they would concentrate their training and effort on the respective jobs in order to be more efficient. Because back then, despite chat mods being able to work in chat as well as battles, the battle moderation effort was seriously lacking because the mods lacked the experience for battle violations or simply preferred to work in chat, so the distribution of effort was biased towards chat.

You are mistakenly thinking that chat and battle moderation are the same thing. Just because they both deal in punishing violations doesn't put them on the same level. Chat moderators are helpers in chat, advising players and sorting out issues, as well as dealing with violations as a secondary duty. On the other hand, battle moderators are always in battles, responding to reports, spectating, recording, issuing punishments. Battle mods have the power to request anyone's account to be permanently blocked, so the training and application process is a lot more strict than for chat. Also, the duties themselves are completely different, and a lot of chat mods don't even want to work as battle mods in the first place.

It has been decided that it's best to keep the teams separate to maximise their effectiveness. Besides, chat and battle mods do constantly work together to share game and chat violation reports. The reason your reports often go unnoticed is because you are likely the only one using the report feature in your game, and one report from one player is not enough for a battle moderator to notice it. But rest assured — battle mods do massive amounts of work every day, and you can see all the violators they dealt with in this topic.
