Here's the thing. No company is under any obligation to give discounts. But they (and we) still do it, and that happens for two reasons:

1. It increases good will with customers, because they're getting something cheaper, so they benefit
2. As a result, customers buy more, which means the company benefits too.

Problem is, you need to maintain a very fine balance. If you give discounts that are too high, or that happen too often, it devalues the product/service, and people will end up buying ONLY when there's a discount, which is bad for business.

 

Now some might say, "Who cares about the business. It's their problem." But in reality, if it's a product or service that you enjoy, you want the company to survive and even do well, so it can keep giving you more of what you're enjoying.

 

There's another thing to consider too. We offer digital services - essentially, ones and zeros. So lots of people think that what we (and other companies like ours) offer does not have any monetary value. But if you think about it, that's not true.

 

Here's what goes into making those ones and zeros:

• Thousands of hours worth in wages for development - that includes programming the game, systems administration and maintenance, web development for official portals and much more
• Marketing, PR and customer-support expenses, including employee wages and all the trimmings
• Equipment and assets, including maintenance, rent etc

For an indi-dev team of just three people, the expenses would still run up into the thousands, per month. And then they release a game, price it at $9, and people complain about how expensive it is, even though it's a good game. And they'll wait till Steam discounts it at 75% to buy it, "cos it's just a game".

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm CONVINCED that many of our players are smart enough to understand why we do what we do, even if sometimes we cannot expand too much on the details. But I still felt the need to share this, because these are the things that nobody talks about in the game dev world, and I wanted to give you a candid glimpse behind the Iron Curtain (pun intended lol).

Well, this is how most businesses work. Although I would love to suggest my fellow tankers to not spend their money on buying any cool skins right now ( because cooler skins will be available in the future; maybe like TankiX ones), I understand that it is certainly important for your business that tankers buy items from the shop. That's significant revenue to continue giving us this platform.

Wait a sec... why is the new paint called Sparks? I already have Spark paint so honeslty I think you guys should come up with a more holiday-themed paint name and appearance next time. Oh, and also, all of the animated paints we get now have the same descrption, unlike some of hte older animated ones. Could the devs pls come up with some interesting descriptions?

On of the best New Year map was the one you did for ASL only, that was supposed to become Yorkshire later.

 

Make Yorkshire night winter the holiday map, with the big tree in the middle.
