The new Railgun Ultra skin is coming to the game with tomorrow’s server restart!

 

Railgun Ultra is a Shop-exclusive skin and will be available to purchase during the 20 days of New Year 2020 celebrations. It will NOT drop from containers.

Railgun is one of the main weapons of choice for eSports champions. Now, this popular turret has a cool Ultra skin to match its amazing reputation.

 

Important details about Viking and Thunder

 

This Railgun Ultra skin follows the recent release of the re-designed Viking and Thunder skins, featuring increased polygon counts, better textures, transparencies and cool animations.

 

Those who had the Viking and Thunder Prime skins, automatically got their skins updated, while others could purchase these skins from the Shop. However, this meant that the old Viking and Thunder Prime skins disappeared from circulation, and we know that collectors don’t like it when that happens.

 

So here’s what’s gonna happen.

 

The re-designed Viking and Thunder skins, which up until now we have been calling “Prime”, will be renamed to “Ultra”. If you have one or both of these skins in your garage, you will keep it, AND you will also get the corresponding Viking and/or Thunder Prime from the previous collection.

 

Over time, we will release the whole collection of Ultra skins. Just like Railgun Ultra, these will be Shop-exclusives and will not drop from Containers.

However, regular Prime skins will continue to drop from Containers, which means you can complete your collection.

 

So, make sure you check out the new Railgun Ultra in the Shop tomorrow. We’ve put quite a bit of work into it, and can’t wait to show you all the other upcoming skins in the Ultra line!

Knowing new prime skins make your paint look better  on the new "Ultra" skins, this essentially means that if u want your paints to look better ( even though u might already paid 60 euros on a bundle  to get a paint ) u have to pay 100 euros to make it bigger and better.... honestly pathetic, Alternativa

So what's the point? The original idea was to create new graphics for the game by recreating old skins with more polygons and new textures, not to create additional skin line for buyers... this is so pointless, just why??

Some people prefer the older version graphics of both of these Prime skins, which is why they are adding them back into the game. The older versions don't look as different from the base tank model, textures found on paints are the same size as other tanks (Ultra skins have significantly smaller paint textures), and the updated graphical effects (Spinning Wheels, Exhaust, Thunder's Recoil) could be considered "annoying" or "distracting." It isn't a change that should be hated, however, as you still get to play with the updated version, or if you prefer the original Prime version, you will now have that option, too.

I like the new set of Ultra skins. They look very nice with their animated recoils. I have some questions below that I want to know, so please carefully answer them one by one.

 

Questions:

 

1. Why did you rename Prime skins as Ultra skins?

 

2. Why will players keep both versions of skins (Prime and Ultra) in their garage if they look exactly the same?

 

3. How long will it take for the Ultra skins set to be complete?

 

4. Why shall Ultra skins not drop in containers?

There shall be some more turrets in the future. Meanwhile, developers are focusing of developing all Ultra skins for turrets and hulls, plus finishing the current work on the Ares hover hull.

You realize what this means? They are sleazing their way out of updating the textures for all skins in the game! Instead of doing that, they are simply going to leave the low-rez garbage for you, and sell you the high-rez stuff, because that's more profitable.

 

The low-rez versions could have been left for a setting to take on less processing for people who play on weaker computers. But now, you wanted to keep them both as separate entities, so you can sell them seperately. It's like the microtransaction-lootbox version of remastering games, before even finishing a franchise.

 

The "collectors" thing is nonsense, they made that up! There are TONS of features, designs etc. from long ago in the game that they had changed and/or removed, that are never coming back. It's an excuse to make more money, while leaving you with left-over garbage. Prime is garbage now, thanks Alternativa!

EDIT: So now we will have two similar skin lines, high-poly "ultra" skin and low-poly garbage "prime" skin for "collectors", oh dear AlternativaGames you'll never learn ...

It’s not about what people prefer or what people want, we need to go forward, with HTML5 we have opportunity to make Tanki Online great again, create better and more beautiful graphics,it's almost 2020 and Tanki Online still looks like its from 90', and what AlternativaGames do? They keeping old low-poly garbage in game because of "collectors". I'm sorry, but this is sad.

They are updating the skins, but they are also allowing those who prefer the older versions to have such. It is good on both sides. Though you prefer updated graphics, others might not. Personally, I would prefer to travel back to the older graphics, where every turret had a Legacy skin (though it wasn't actually a skin) as it brings back nostalgia, but I am okay with the newer graphics, too. Besides, it shouldn't just be the graphics of this game that entices players to stay - There are plenty of other games that have more entertaining graphics - but rather the actual game-play portion of the game. I enjoy playing Tanki as it is a laid-back environment, which isn't overly competitive, which is why I have continued to play this game for 6 years. Also, there is a limit on how vibrant the game's graphics can be, as it is both a web-based and client game. If it was just a client game, they for sure could have updated their game ages ago, but being run through a browser imposes a limit on such. They could only update the graphics of the client and not the HTML5 version, sure, but the majority of their players play using a browser, so it is important to fit their needs as well, and not focus on one platform over another. All in all, I don't think you need to be upset because older skins will continue to exist, as well as newer ones, and it isn't a large negligence on the overall game.

@Marcus  actually I had Thunder and Viking Prime old version which was transformed to 3D models last update

Actually today I didn't get the old prime skins back !! why ?

I should be able to use ultra viking thunder and prime viking thunder after the update!

Viking and Thunder Prime will be given manually by devs today to those who received Ultra and lost Prime.
