Ray Tracing and Graphics on Maps

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone.

I am a player of TO for 2 Years up to 2018 but has transfered to TX in the mid 2017 and since then have decided to return to TO due to TX shutting down in the next week or so.

One of my suggestions is the ray tracing feature as I think it will benefit the game by making the game more realistic and bring more value to the game alongside the graphics updates brought to both hulls and tanks.

Why would Ray Tracing be important well, (this is for those who don't know and are looking to read about it.)

Ray tracing is a rendering technique that can produce incredibly realistic lighting effects. Essentially, an algorithm can trace the path of light, and then simulate the way that the light interacts with the virtual objects it ultimately hits in the computer-generated world.

We've seen in-game lighting effects become more and more realistic over the years, but the benefits of ray tracing are less about the light itself and more about how it interacts with the world.

Ray tracing allows for dramatically more lifelike shadows and reflections, along with much-improved translucence and scattering. The algorithm takes into account where the light hits and calculates the interaction and interplay much like the human eye would process real light, shadows, and reflections, for example. The way light hits objects in the world also affects which colors you see.

I believe that this will increase the games status quo and will invite if not increase the amount of players onto TO, I am hopeful that one day TO will be greater than TX, and I will be here to support TO until it has become superior to TX.

To the developers (Moderators Please pass this up to the devs if you can):

First of all I want to congratulate you all at Alternativa Games for making an enjoyable game as this, even at a time where I thought I can't play a game on my computer. But I have some requests, please do listen to the players. I know some of the features won't be able to make it but player suggestions and feedback are important to the progression of the game.

Valid

Brief description for those lazy players:
 RTX implementation in Tanki;

Tanki X was originally meant to be an improved copy of Tanki Online. It was supposed to completely replace TO, bringing all accounts from TO to TX and shutting down TO.

After it was known that TX couldn't be played in-browser, it was decided to release it as a standalone game and develop it in a different direction, while TO would continue to exist and have its own unique updates, different from TX.

Once HTML5 became an option and it was clear that TO could get a second life, while TX was already doing poorly with its profit and player base, it was decided to improve TO and implement any possible improvements which already exist in TX. This has been happening for the past 2 years already, and will continue to happen now that Tanki Online is still AlternativaGames' main project.
It certainly won't become the same as TX, HTML5 cannot support the same sort of graphics.

ame sort of graphics.

Interesting, I didn't know this.

I totally agree with you.  Alternativa games make this game enjoable, and I really like it. I think the only thing that TO has to upgrade is graphics. I never played TX, but i know that it has a really good graphics. Graphics is a very important feature of any game. I see that tanki is trying to develop it, with the 3D bushes (i really like it, nice idea, the next thing should be grass),but now, makes ultra skins, which is a really big mistake.I know, that the game needs money, but if TO do ultra skins, it can't develop the hulls and turrets graphics,because buyers can say "hey, we bought theese skins, than don't give it to everybody". So what do you have to do whith this? I don't know, but you HAVE TO continue develop graphics, to have more players.

All I see are all the crappy things in TX that made TX fail being implemented into TO, causing it to fail in the same exact way.

umm... You got any.... like... any clue at all what raytracing is? its not cheap on your system, many if not most tanki players play the game on kinda garbage systems and you want them to play tanki with raytracing?

In TO "ray tracing" is cheap, they just need to bake the lighting to the texture, and the downside is that the lighting is static, but in the case of TO its completely acceptable.

They already did that 10 years ago;

Baked lighting was certainly tested in TO before, but I'm pretty sure the author of this topic had real-time raytracing in mind, not baked lighting.

baked lights do indeed use raytracing, but its not dynamic, its static lighting. explosions wont be raytraced, tank shadows wont be raytraced, fire etc neither.
Literally only sun will be baked as its the only static light source
Ive heard some say tanki already uses baked lights which they bake in unity. If thats the case, its already raytraced.
