Xavier shone his light down the tunnel, seeing nothing but cobwebs and the walls stretching on for what seemed like forever. He looked at the stretch of tunnel behind him and decided it was too late to turn around.

"Troop Commander 13, reporting out; will update in approximately 15 minutes," he said into his radio, "If I do not update by then, send out the search team to 23.416203, 25.662830."

He switched off his radio and set out into the tunnel, determined to find what he was sent out here for. If the legends were true, the hidden prize was just down this tunnel. Equipped with his survival kit, he was ready to take on anything and everything that stood in his way.

A few minutes had passed, and Xavier had yet to see an end to this tunnel. He was starting to wonder if this was pointless; if they had spent thousands of dollars just to walk down a dark, hot, and humid tunnel. Nonetheless, he knew it would be more disappointing if he turned back now and gave up. Either he would find something, or he wouldn't. Going back wasn't an option yet.

Eventually, he lost track of time. His whole life, it seemed, was based around walking down this path, with no end or beginning. Just constant walking. With nothing to focus on, he started having hallucinations. Just as the hallucinations were getting to be too much to handle, Xavier saw a turn in the walkway. He knew this must mean he was close. Not only did his walking speed increase, so did his heart rate. He was excited but also worried about what he might find at the end. The turn got nearer and nearer, and he was ready to dial his team and report he had found the treasure.

When he turned the corner, he wasn't sure what he saw was treasure. It was a large, magnificent room -- dark, smoky, eerie, and grand. In the middle of this great room, though, there was just a simple little box on a pedestal. Xavier wasn't sure what this was, but his curiosity got the better of him. He walked up to the pedestal carefully, making sure that his steps were as light as possible. He didn't want to set off any traps, especially now.

As he reached the box, it seemed like a normal music box, the sort of thing that plays "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" when you wind it up. He thought that this might be a trap, so he carefully pushed the lever the smallest fraction of an inch. When nothing happened, he wound it more, to see what would happen.

As Xavier began twisting the lever, the song playing while he did so, he started to get strangely sleepy. He was really tired from all the walking it seemed. And it only got worse as he kept on twisting. He thought he should stop, but what about the treasure? Fatigue eventually got the best of him and he stopped twisting the lever, but the music still played. He was very tired by the time this happened, and he thought it would be nice to just take a nap.

He started to drift off to sleep. It was so comfortable, the silence, the heat, the darkness. It all welcomed him in. But in the back of Xavier's head, he knew something was wrong. But why fight it? Maybe he was just delirious, going insane from the absurdity of it all. Xavier started to get sleepier and sleepier, more and more tired, falling slowly, until it was too late.

...

"Xavier? Xavier, this is Troop Leader 28. Do you copy, Xavier? Do you need backup? Xavier?" Xavier's walkie-talkie buzzed out into the empty air.

"Xavier, we're sending backup. Please report your location as soon as possible."

"...Xavier? The connection is glitchi- I can't get a connection acro- Xav- Respond immedia-"

The walkie-talkie fizzled out and short-circuited.

Silence.
