  1. 1. Do you like the new vulcan or do you think it needs to be balanced out?

    • Vulcan is balanced, doesn't need any more changes

My point was... why would they be equipping Thunder protection when Thunder turret is no longer encountered much.

IMO the disparity in usage between Thunder turret and its module can easily be explained by:

1) The turret being historically OP, especially since Sledgehammer's release. Because of this, it's become a sort of tradition among veterans to always wear its module next to Railgun's

2) Players ragequitting to other turrets after the Thunder projectile update... without realizing DPS got buffed with the slight reload improvement (2.3 -> 2.2)

3) New Vulcan / Gauss + Hornet meta being more lucrative, while not diminishing Thunder's strength whatsoever

On another note, I don't really base my module loadout on the turrets I can consistently neutralize before taking return damage, even if they are the most frequent. I wear protection against the ones deadliest to my playstyle, no matter how uncommon.

ADDENDUM: If you take another look at the table, you'll see a trend in that people generally protect against the deadliest turrets, not necessarily the most popular. First three modules are Railgun, Magnum, and Thunder - all with pretty impressive DPH that can cripple, if not outright kill most in 1 DD shot. Firebird next because of how common burning effect is, then Vulcan due to sheer DPS and so forth until around Ricochet / Shaft, where module use becomes rather niche.

So... then it seems to me there's room for Vulcan to drop down in "OP-ness" if more players actually equipped the module more, right?

Going from 28% to 50% protection (if we consider the 3680 hrs from Rail as 50%) will certainly make a significant difference.

Rail would definitely be even more efficient (OP?) if it swapped places with vulcan in the module usage.

Yeah me too. But problem is I don’t use hornet. And I don’t like using Vulcan with light hulls too...

Do you guys think it would be better with mammoth for defense than with hornet? If not, I might not buy it. But I’m gonna try out myself too.

Game play has changed somewhat for the buffed vulcan. In the past, most players paired vulcan with a big hull. With hornet's overdrive + drones, I am seeing skilled players using vulcan or magnum with hornets provided the other side has little protection. Those were unheard of before. Make sure your driving + turning turret and aiming is good before you pair vulcan with hornet.

You can take or ignore the statistics I shared however you want.  It is just data and you can interpret it a number of ways.  My point is that strong legends are using vulcan more than any other turret because it is currently providing the best score.  My interpretation, as well as my experience, is that it makes it the strongest turrent in the game for legend battles.

Thanks to @Viking4s for helping to try to explain.

Below are stats for last 2 weeks of high-level legends.  Before the vulcan buff, it was consistently the least used turret for a year.  It is now far and away the most common turret used and earns the highest experience/hour.  Even when there are 6 opponents with 50% protection it is still playable which I don't think you can say about any other turret.

Oh dang! Falcon and Griffin armies are common, while Spider is really underrated.

THE OVERDRIVES HAVE TOTALLY DOMINATED MM ESPECIALLY HORNET ..I SEE MORE MAGNUMS THUNDERS FIRE VULCANS THAN ANY OTHER TURRET IN BATTLE AND 70% OF THE TIME THERE EQUIPPED WITH HORNET

For the players with the core skills (driving + turning turret + firing), hornet is a very good choice now. They are fast enough to avoid shafts and rail guns to one shot effectively. I would rate vulcan, fire and magnum as the best to go with hornet currently. Thunder is good too. Hornet's OD is a big part with this. The damage is too high with those turrets for you to get your shot off or to hide. And guess what, the health pack is just close enough so when you die, somebody picks it up...continuing the cycle.

I would put Rail ahead of fire and thunder since it can one-shot medium hulls with DD.  Heck I'd put it ahead of Vulcan since it needs less exposure to return fire.

Well, you mention "pairing up" and Drones and hornet.

There's a lot of turrets that can be dominant with those combos.  You don't think Magnum or Gauss under those same conditions are OP?

Part of the issue is Hornet OD - which completely ignores protectons (IMO that OD is 'broken') and then the ultra powerful drones.

Did you try Vulcan-Dictator or Vulcan-Viking or Vulcan-Hunter?   I bet you don't get as good results as you did with hornet.

The update to Vulcan simply turned it from an under-used "meh" turret into a useful turret that players are now also using to exploit the Hornet OD.

It can no longer quickly shave of the health of long-distance moving enemies - it needs to get closer (more like medium distance) which puts it more in danger.

tend to agree with your comment its hornets overdrive which is the real issue not vulcan/magnum/rail etc.

Vulcan for a period was underpowered. You rarely see it. To deal with vulcan after this upgrade, you need to get the vulcan protection module.  Usually, I'll only switch to that protection module if I see 3 enemies with that turret. However, I was in a battle recently against a helper with that spectrum B module, and he wrecked everybody on our side with just vulcan and hornet and booster. He had an isida healing behind him and he was the only vulcan on that side. Scary.

Its called being a smart player and taken advantage of module and the isida glued to him throughout battle.
