Returning after a long hiatus. Wow has this game changed a lot!

I just came back to this game after being absent for 4+ years? Wow, has this game changed a lot! It is not the same game as I remember it to be. New upgrade levels, new gameplay modes, new rules, new players! It just blows my mind how much things can change with time. Are there any players who have been playing for a long time that can clue me in on some of the changes that have been made?

A few things I remember when I was present in the game:

- Turrets and hulls could only be upgraded M0-M3.

- Hammer was the newest turret added to the game.

- Semyon Kirov was the big man of the show.

- OUFA was a huge promoter for the game.

- Godmode_ON was the big demon everyone feared and anticipated. Is he even still around?

I know a lot of these questions can be answered by searching the Tanki wiki. I'm looking for personal input from seasoned players on their view of the game and how it has evolved over the years. Where do you think this game is headed?

Like a few months ago, M0-M3 was changed to MK0-MK7 scale because micro-upgrading was causing large amounts of imbalance.

Vulcan was added like a few weeks after Hammer. I left the game for some time when they added Striker, Magnum, and Gauss (3 turrets that were always unbalanced - either too weak like Striker or too OP like Magnum and Gauss)

Semyon Kirov had no role left in the TO community after the players voted him out of the V-Logs and replaced him with a new narrator, so he left for some other gaming company. Cedric Debono (aka theFiringHand) replaced him, then Nives replaced Cedric Debono, then Nives left and then Cedric Debono came back.

OUFA got banned for hacking. Then he created an account called i..O.U.F.A, which I think also got banned.

The devs haven't busted out GodMode_ON in a long time. Personally, for like the 7 years I've played the game, I've never seen GodMode_ON.

I accidently said Gauss was UP

There are containers & weekly containers. Containers gives you random rewards like crystals, paints, supplies, skins (No XT hulls, turrets anymore. They've become "skins" & can be applied to a hull or a turret like a paint), shot effects etc. We can change the colors of our turret shots with shot effects. Weekly containers give you fixed rewards depending on your rank.

There are Tankoins, which can be bought for real money & can be spent in the shop to buy things.

Developers are launching the game in HTML 5 as flash is dying.

Paints no longer provides protection. In Q3 2016 they made an update that separated paints & protections. There are protection modules now and you can equip maximum of 3 of them at a time.

There are drones powered by batteries (a new kind of supplies) that gives you some special abilities or improving your existing abilities. Mostly buyers use them as batteries are very expensive. It's very hard to fight against the players with drones, be careful with that.

There are overdrives, which gives each hull a unique ability. In my opinion, Hornet overdrive is the best as it can ignore any protection enemies have. You can find more info about overdrives in wiki. Short name is OD.

There is spawn protection, which gives us a complete immunity for few seconds after spawning. This was implemented to prevent spawn killing. Hornet OD can ignore this protection & do spawn killing.

You need to play in matchmaking (short name - MM) battles to complete missions. This prevents players from getting help from friends to complete missions.

There are monthly challenges (2 challenges per month). Complete them & get good rewards. Again, they can only be completed in MM battles.

They give Special Missions (a special kind of missions) often. They are hard to complete & sometimes the rewards are not worth it.

Tanki introduced "alterations" which improves some abilities of turrets. Hull alterations too are coming soon.

In October 2016, Tanki introduced a new update called "Global Game Balance Update" & kinds ruined the game & many players let. I see you're using XP/BP equipment often. But the Railgun is not as powerful as the old one. You'd better buying the Large Caliber Rounds (short name - LCR) alteration for Railgun if you want an experience like you earlier had. It's very powerful.

How many useless updates did the devs add? Has firebird been fixed?

Haha Semyon Kirov seriously got ousted?? That's too funny! He always was a funny-lookin feller aye?

He left by his own initiative, because another business opportunity came up. Since then we had community managers Cedric Debono @theFiringHand, then Nives @r_Nives5, and now Cedric Debono again.

I do recommend you read the topic linked by @DieselPlatinum, as we made it specifically for returning players like you ?

Don't start playing again. The game you once knew is long gone.

Why do you say that? One thing I've definitely noticed is people "drug" sooo much more than before. Is the "anti-drug" talk still a thing, or has that part of the community been laid to rest?

There are still a handful of people who bring this up - mostly the ones who don't have enough.

Unless you keep doing the OPTIONAL Challenges, every player should have enough supplies to compete.

Drones are now the "rich-peoples" candy.  They are very expensive to upgrade and maintain with batteries.

I agree with @wolverine848. Don't worry buying drones rn if you are a F2P player. If you do want to continue playing then consider focusing on 1 combo for now as it will help you in the long run as now we need to buy every modification unlike a few months back. Use drugs effectively and efficiently. Don't bother trying in matches where one side is too op. It will just ruin your mood and make you hate the game more.

One thing I definitely miss about TO that they removed was longer battles. 7 minutes per battle is just too short in my opinion. The moment you get used to the map and the dynamic of the players on both teams, the match ends. If matches have to be time capped, at least make them 15-20 minutes.  What were the reasons Devs decided to shorten all battles I'm assuming for people who do not by pro passes? (They want the $$$?)

I remember when matches could go for a good 2 hours with both sides going at it. Internal rivalries would develop, people on the same team would find a way to work together once they became familiar with each other, and players had time to perfect their "in-game" techniques. Those battles that would go on for 24 hours, with million crystal pots, were LEGENDARY (999 flag limits), although they were in the minority of available battles. I guess players joining matches would become a bit biased, with the traffic of people joining battles leaning more towards these matches than starting new ones. But still, 7 minutes is just too short. Sometimes I join a battle and 3 minutes has already passed. Well, then I've practically missed half the action.

I don't mean to talk too much, but it seems gameplay is a lot more regulated now than what it used to be.

There are pro battles that last longer than 7 minutes, but Matchmaking battles (which are used for completing missions) are fairly short so people can get their stars done in a reasonable amount of time. 15-20 minute battles is way too long in my opinion.

The gameplay IS a bit more regulated than what it used to be, but that's because of the matchmaking system. I know it's not as visible to see (*cough* devs *cough*) you can find the 'battle list' on the 4 green boxes icon on html5, whilst on flash, you scroll to the bottom of the mode list and you'll see 'battle list'. Here you can find PRO battles (I'm sure you're aware of them). These are custom made, and there is still a selection of battles to choose from, and you can also make one yourself. The 999 flag battles DO still exist, they're just not as common.

A personal favourite would be Polygon XP/BP from back in 2016 days... Those, quite sadly don't exist.

One of the biggest problem with todays TO.  Stars.  It's all about stars.  Who cares abou the actual battle so long as players get their stars - right?

Stars were something positive that were added to the game. With Stars, players don't just get crystals at the end of a battle, but they also unlock other great rewards in the battle pass such as containers, supplies, paints, shot effects and more. If the battle times are longer, then it makes it more difficult for players to earn such rewards.
