Wrong map - Leaving battle

Who else just click Leave Battle when MM drop you in a map you hate and know you won't do well in?

 

Alternatively, who else also leave a match that the awful MM drop you in and is already lost or about to end?

I drop from Stadium and Massacre every time in any battle mode. No need to stay in a map that you dislike (there is no fun). All the other map are fine.

The more you do that the more likely they will drop these maps and introduce new one :). 

And Archipelago, the worse map ever in all tanki life. 

People do not like Highways, but it is because they don't know how to hide and wait for the right opportunity.

I never used to leave battles early, but with HTML I keep quitting battles to check how my missions are coming along.  It's sooooo very annoying not having a way to check mission status from within a battle on HTML.

I don't really hate any of the maps, but my least favorite one at the moment is probably Wolfenstein

There are others that I don't think are suitable for some of the battle modes, so I'll quit some if I'm trying to complete a capture flags mission in ASL (you'll only cap if the other team is terrible)

But most of the time I'll play for a bit and only quit if I can't score anything or if my team is losing because of campers / TDM

I like Massacre, but there's no point playing on it if the rest of the team won't try and fight for the midfield

Same for Highways where you can't allow the other team to control the highest point

Stadium can be fun if you try and get to the other side of map and cause chaos, but that's often impossible if you are the only player on your team that wants to do it

I do leave sometimes, but what bothers me the most is that during times when not many people are online, you will be put into the same game over and over again.

I just want three things:

  • Ability to see which map you're being put into in advance
  • Not being put into the same battle again after you leave
  • Better maps, or at least removal of completely unsuitable ones like Highways and Massacre.

One problem with letting players choose what they like is it leads to complacency around certain features, techniques & equipment. Example - XP/BP, camping with magnum/shaft. These become stagnant ideas - very hard to flush out of large populations of players... that in time breed copycat populations. It may look like individual rights are suppressed, but it mixes things up & keeps everyone on their toes. No clear majority is not always a disadvantage. But YES, I do think some maps are just a bad choice for MM overall (stadium & archipelago). There need to be more maps designed to include all turrets.

In the end, as long as you have a choice to leave, it's not UNFAIR. I would think being queued to the same battle you left - is more of bad coding logic than design.

I leave whenever I get placed in Massacre or Highways. In both maps, most of your time is spent just driving, but in the former, you're exposed 95% of the time and it's not even a good sniping map, like Stadium. Stadium is not a huge problem for me, I just change to Shaft.

 

As for battles that are one sided, I tend to stay if I'm towards the top of the leaderboard. Those battles give an easy 2 or 3 stars because half of the team is gone by the time the battle ends. ?

Sandal & Sandbox are kinda too small for 8 vs 8.  Make them 6 vs 6 or remove them. Dying every 6 seconds becomes boring pretty quickly.

It's the adjustments made to the maps to accommodate the devs ideas of what an MM map should be that made them bland and boring.  It's also the lack of choice forced by MM that makes it necessary to bail out of battles so often...and these are just 6.5 minute battles.  Imagine the attrition in each battle if battles were 15 minutes!  If you could choose the map you wanted there would be fuller more consistent battles.

Massacre, Highways,, all of them have their place when you have the right equipment.  Sure we can change equipment in a battle, but battles are so short it's better just to leave.  Even if you get the full battle 6:30 seconds, and you decide to change equipment (-5 seconds), you rush to change in HTML (click G & wait -15 seconds)(click 2 turret/hull/protection -10 seconds)(click back to battle -20 seconds)(self-destruct -5)(re-spawn -2 seconds).  Now you have about five and a half minutes left to fight and your team has been down at least one player with your absence.  In my experience it is harder to get 2 or 3 stars at this point and your team usually loses so BF is lower.  It much easier just to quit as soon as you spawn into an "unfit" (for your equipment) map.

I used to thrive on wreaking havoc with shafts on Highways.  Archipelago is fun when everyone has Firebird or Freeze unless you happen to be the only Smoky.  All the maps are OK if you are equipped.  If you are not geared towards the map, everyone just quits. 

The problem is MM and has been the problem since it's inception.  No choice of map, no choice of team, short battles on diluted homogenized maps.  MM is, an has been, awful and the cause of tens of thousands of players to leave the game.

I agree on wolfnstein and Yorkshire - they are strange maps and seem to favor light hulls because they are large and have so much cover to approach bases. When you enter those maps with heavy hull equipped it feels depressing - like youare not even involved in the battle.

Solimansk I find not too bad.

Hehe, funny story about Brest. On my main account last night, I was put on a team that had an average GS of 5400 and the other team was like 7000, our team was also down a few players so there's that.

If I didn't see that my team had easy access to an abundant amount of cover while the other team did not, I would have just left the battle.

So I stayed and at the end of the battle my team had a total of 39 kills (because it was a TDM battle) and the enemy team had just 44 kills. The one disadvantage that the enemy team had against my team may not have prevented them from winning, but it sure prevented them from dominating the battle.

 

So yeah I'd say that Brest has a severe balance issue because one team can have access to a lot of cover while the other team had very little cover.

Part of the problem is that regular players of Highways know the typical places players hide.

That's a big issue I feel with many maps. It would be nice if some of the maps had ideas added, such as existing buildings having openings with lifts built in, that randomly appear in maps.

You drive into opening in building, lift takes you to the top of it (or a raised opening) so you just appear at a raised firing point no one expects.

Random ones would be awesome.

 

But yes, if MM drops me into a map that's unfavourable, or it's full of drugging Hornet/Vulcans, I leave.

I can never understand why, in TDM, both sides spawn on the same island.

As a long range turret, I'm too close to take on enemies on the same island.  Try aiming at enemies on another island and get one-shotted by an enemy spawning right behind me. 

They can't bin that map soon enough for me.

Map-changes are one of reasons Brest made my dislike list.  It wasn't as bad when it had the back alley behind each base.  My hornet used to sneak back there t0 steal a flag.  Now you are just a target for all the shafts camping (major reason for my brest dislike)

They changed many maps to accomodate Mangum more - and that really ticked me off.  They justified those as protection against long shots. Except they left out the part where 1) Magnums can drop a shot there anyway and 2) they provide even more cover for magnum.

I probably was either too ignorant to see the difference in cover back then or the incompetent devs made it that way at some point.

But it's so fricking unfair in CTF mode that one team can just go on the roof and they won't ever be destroyed but if the other team tries to do the same thing, they'll just get sniped into oblivion because of lack of cover.

 

As for the back entrances, I never cared about them being removed, because to me, they were never really useful maybe when you're escaping, but other than that, they just acted like a detour.

Would be nice if they returned, but maybe as underground tunnels. Now that would be pretty cool.

When I play for fun and have a chance to score in the top half, or at least top 3 of a losing match I switch some alts and stay.

 

But when one plays for challenges, we NEED to score top 3 most of the time, so maybe half the MM maps earns and instant 'Leave Battle' - Then there's the times when MM  drop you in an already lost or halfway through battle, so that's another instant 'Leave Battle'.

 

I worked hard to complete Challenges lately (free time due to quarantine) and it meant I left 3/4 of time due to the above reasons. That means that more than half of my playtime was actually waiting for battles to load.

 

That being said, I'm done with grinding Challenges, MM make it too frustrating.
