Why does the game keep putting people with a gear score of 1000, up against people with a gear score of 6000?

Question

Often, I will watch one of my lower-rank (master sergeant) friends while he is playing Tanki, and he will end up in a battle, that is all 1000 gear-score players, against all 4000-6000 gear-score players (some near his rank, but mostly higher). Not only that, but the enemy team will guard his team's spawn points, and immediately kill them. Is this how tanki should work? I don't think so. You can't play the game fairly, if you're killed as soon as you spawn. Please fix matchmaking, and spawning near enemies. It's not funny.

If you have a suggestion to the game, you may want to submit it here https://en.tankiforum.com/forum/182-ideas-and-suggestions/ so it gets fowarded to the developers.

This idea has already been suggested in the past, and you can read this topic to see the moderators' arguments: https://en.tankiforum.com/topic/384125-gs-based-matchmaking/?tab=comments#comment-6768691

I will try to answer this question on my own. Tanki earns its money from players that pay for better equipment. Therefore, Tanki needs to have better equipment having an advantage, and therefore they base MM off rank and not GS. Once MM is based on rank, Tanki needs to have multiple ranks in one battle to allow for a shorter wait-time. This is called a rank-spread. It is very possible for someone a few ranks up from you to have better equipment unlocked, and especially if they are buyers they will have a higher GS.

I don't know why you have the entire team with a lower-GS and all your opponents have a higher GS, although it should occasionally happen, the probability o it happening often is quite low. Once the enemy team is a lot better, they will be able to dominate your team's base, and since all players spawn near the base, they will be spawn-killing you. If you have a suggestion for how spawning should work, you may submit it to the I&S section linked above.

If this problem is only occurring in the HTML5 version, you can submit a report here: https://en.tankiforum.com/topic/384717-html5-bug-reports/?tab=comments#comment-6738738

Leave the battle. I'm not joking. There is no reason to stay in a battle if you are getting spawnkilled by people with 5000gs more than you.

We don't know when the devs are going to address the issue, but this is what I do for now.

As for the leaving the battle idea, whenever my friend would do that, the next battle he joined would be very similar.

I dont really think there's a solution to that... it doesn't seem like Tanki matches by GS, mostly ranks, so there will be that one outlier guy with several thousand more GS than the next guy on th street.

Primary selector for opponents in battle is rank.

Matchmaker also has rank-ranges when assigning players - so your friend could be playing against tankers 2-5 ranks above him/her.

So if your friend ends up in a battel versus WO3 - it's possible that WO3 upgraded equipment to GS 6000 level before the conversion to mk took place.

Rank-ranges and upgraded equipment would be the primary reason for the unbalance in GS.
