I was living in Monterey California back in the day.  There was this cool little movie theater on Cannery Row...post Steinbeck but still untoruisted.  The theater had no seats but only thick carpet and lots of pillows.  It accommodated about 40 or 50 people.  It was the ideal set up for a first date scenario, "Wanna go to a movie?"   "Sure", as she naively thought it would be a regular theater with seats and popcorn.  The cuddle opportunities are dramatically increased when forced to lie around on the floor buried in pillows.

The movie had just been there for a couple days; something called The Rocky Horror Picture Show...whatever, it was the theater venue itself that attracted me for my boyish machinations.  The babe and I walked down to our allotted portion of floor and sat down.  "Wow, this is really different isn't it?  There aren't any seats?" said the fly to the spider.

Soon the movie started...a bloody musical..and really odd...WTF?   But very soon the magic of images and the rock transported to a different realm.  We both became innocents, equally amazed and excited about what we were watching.

Then MeatLoaf entered the story (as Eddie)...the essence of the 50s banging it out just for us in all his rebel energy.  I don't remember the girl I went with.  I don't remember if the theater did it's magic.  But I remember the show stealing impact of MeatLoaf's performance as Eddie.  Even got him killed and eaten in the movie...later to be the "Meatloaf Again" response after Rocky Horror became "A Thing"

Hot Patootie Bless My Soul, it's a Bat Out of Hell     Thanks Marvin for all you've given to us...you will not be forgotten.

Yea I saw it a normal theater with seats (lol) , it was in the 80's and had no clue what it was about until it finished . it was amazing to watch and boy the energy form the audience around you made it worth seeing.

we will be missing his great music .

Bananarama vs Banarama cover

Give the 80's girl group Bananarma a minimum of 90 seconds to digest the teen fun and sheer bubblegum-ness of their music..  Then give this YouTube era cover a listen.  Yikes!

This cover makes me like the original even more because it's such a cool comparison.

So what's your most recent ear worm?   What song have you listened to more than three times in a row recently?  Post 'em bruhs...

I've been stuck on this for a couple of days.  So energetic...and a cute video...who is this babe?  I recognize her as an actress but don't know where I've seen her (American Pie maybe?)  She's almost got a shuffle thing going in her dance.

Her shuffle like dance brought me back to a fairly deep Elvis Presley rabbit hole...a neat trend of Elvis overdubs to shuffle dancers...so that song. got repeated a dozen times.

And then this "Naughty Boy - La La La" just won't leave me alone this week.  The complete version sounds much better fidelity wise, but I love the choreography that this troupe did for the song...so slick...the walk segment looks badass in contrast to the super fast hand motions.

They Might Be Giants - You're On Fire  (please, no spoiler)

Elvis Presley - His Latest Flame Remix  (please, no spoiler)

Naughty Boy - La La La (ITsMe dance)  (please, no spoiler)

Naughty Boy, Sam Smith - La La La (Lyrics)   ...it's really worth listening to the entire tune again for context and the better fidelity of course.

Spoiler

Anybody here listens to some actual heavy stuff? Just curious. (not that these songs are that heavy to begin with)

Devil Driver.  Haven't heard these guys before but they sport some truly epic tones with a boat load of great hooks.  The highly repetitive nature of their music lends itself to some of the tasty tone drops every couple of phrases...especially in "Head on to Heartache'.  Great guitar, bass, and synth tones.

Here's a few metal bands that may have slipped under the Western radar.  Lemme know if you like 'em or no.

Spoiler

One of my favorite bands from Brazil back in the 90s...pretty badass for sambaland.  Great resolving drop around 2:46
Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots

A little phycho stuff from Japan...I think I'm pretty happy I don't understand the lyrics
DEVILOOF - 拷訊惨獄

Something from some local boys here in Thailand
Annalyn - Seconds Of A Thousand Lies

Not typical metal, but I think it qualifies at the very least, in spirit.   Kind of a slow build up with the first couple of minutes just video to help set the tone.  I do think it's kinda cool that the upbeat chant is the bands name.  Way cooler than ya ya ya or baby baby baby :)
The HU - Wolf Totem

I can't believe I found something on YouTube from these guys.  I heard about them from a buddy of mine from Nigeria.  I never heard them before today, but this little foray into metal reminded me to look for them...pretty good.  Looks like they are doing some sort of soundtrack for a movie in Kenya...maybe that's why they are showing up on YT.

The Seeds of Datura - Pokea Uponyaji

Same thing, The Seeds of Datura, but this is a short promo from their label showing them playing this crunchy little tidbit.

The Seeds of Datura - Pokea Uponyaji     ..again

Man, I'm on a crunchy roll...sorry for the flood.  I haven't thought of this little jewel in years.  One of my favs from back in the mid-90s, post Metallica days.  Western music, American I think, and not in keeping with the theme of this post, but it's just so good.

White Zombie - More Human Than Human

Pretty cool stuff. Sepultura are a classic, as is Rob Zombie... Astro Creep 2000 is one of my favs.

Deviloof and Annalyn are a bit too metalcore for me, which is a sub-genre I don't listen too much to.

I already heard some songs from The HU, quite an interesting band. The last two bands you posted are also quite nice.

I don't get it.

It's not a horrible piece of music.  I mean it doesn't make your ears bleed or anything...but it just seems so standard issue anime.

___________

The Somberlain

Thorns of Crimson Death

The Somberlain
Fantastic guitar intro, but at 0.20 when the drums come in it's kinda jarring, then the chords don't mesh with the theme of the into...they seem disconnected and just patched together.  After 0:20 it gets good on it's own though.  Great power chords throughout and many many changes...nice.  They really keep it interesting.  I do object to the obnoxious speed metal sound of the snare on the upbeats (makes the piece sound like Let's Go Bowling neo-ska...kinda silly)...should have been brought down in volume in post production.  It does make a very effective point when it stops...when it quits it's nagging you really feel the power chords.  Around 2:08 the drummer gets tasty again and the chord progression is brilliant...wow...oh yeah...love this. Big drama.  3:36, oh I'm head banging now...crap that fool drummer's upbeats (3:46)...bad call mixer boy.  Next long section kinda reminds me of something from Black Sabbath, but I'm not sure what exactly.  6:10 nice drop....takin' it home.

Yeah, quite good.  The drummer needs a spanking.  On third listen, it sounds to me like the production people punched up the snare to give the piece that frenetic speed metal feel.  Overall a very good rockin' piece....a real keeper, thanks.

Thorns of Crimson Death
0:00 to 5:10 kinda blah for me...outstanding production and good muscianship, but it doesn't really speak to me.  5:10 starts a very tasty bit...oh yeah...brilliant guitar injection at 5:35 with hypno phrased chords...a tad repditive, but can feel a drop coming...I hope, I hope...6:50 ahhh bummers, the drop flopped and was just a down tempo change (unwise in my opinion) ...and on to the end.

It's OK.  A couple of redeeming moments but not enough to save the piece overall.  I could only get through this once and even that sort of dragged on. This would make good movie music.  Maybe if it had a snazzy video to go along with it it would be more palatable but just as a listen it feels kind bland.

I was looking for a decent version of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song...maybe a bangin' live thing for the granddaddy of metal, but all I found was Marvel Comic overdubs...Thor and all.  And in line with comics, I found this absolute jewel...hysterical.  (I hadda put it in a spoiler or you couldn't have read my reactions with any kind of objectivity)

The Immigrant Song like you've never heard it before...guarrans

Spoiler

uh... there's nothing to get from it?

I never said it was some bad music, it's something i actually really enjoy lol, it's mostly music that would be perfect for car games where you drift and such, but i like listening it while i play Tanki.

A Latvian song of witches and werewolf girls, tribal fusion feel with some hula elements and cute babes singing great choral harmony around 1:58 followed by a pretty cool drum break...what's not to like?  My only question is what's up with the bicycle sprockets?

Tautumeitas - Raganu Nakts

One more from Tautumeitas (no sprockets)

Spoiler

Tautumeitas - Mežā

A great switch-up starting around 1:38.  I really like the bass wind down around 1:42 moving into the power chords choraled in the following phrase.

Well, those two songs are taken from different Albums from Dissection, a black/death metal band. One of the greatest groups of that particular sub-genre of Metal. It does not look like you are used to that kind of music but you seemed to enjoy it nonetheless, that's impressive. Not many people have such an open mind when listening to Metal.

I wasn't going to post anything else but I stumbled into this and just had to share it.  What a voice!  Damn.   Michal Elia Kamal is the singer for Light in Babylon.  It may take a few seconds to adjust Western ears, but this is some true badassery...high drama and power...yikes!  What a star! (great production helps too)

Michal Elia Kamal - Light in Babylon - Ya Sahra

More cherry picks of Michal Elia Kamal and Light in Babylon  (a great way to spend 15 minutes)

Spoiler

Light in Babylon  (Michal Elia Kamal) - Baderech El Hayam                   ....in the studio

Light in Babylon  (Michal Elia Kamal) - Oshan Song      What a set of pipes this babe has!   There is no autotune happening in post either...this is sheer bulls eye pitch....wow

Light in Babylon (Michal Elia Kamal) busking on the street...so cool.  She's even a very accomplished dumbeck player. (yep, I'm in love, sorry Rhiannon Giddens, yet another musical crush)

Well yeah, i said that because i main support nanobots Isida.

I like healing and music helps me play better for some reason.

It's an augment almost no one uses and finding an experienced player with it is kinda rare.

Isida was my primary turret with my first and highest ranked account.  I really liked healing, but Tanki basically took the healing abilities away from Isida and turned it into an offensive weapon like Freeze or Firebird.  Overall, Tanki just kept getting worse and worse (for me).  Finally after playing every day for years, Tanki just got too annoying with the constant nerf/buff cycle and the absolute ruinous greed of the devs.  I quit playing a few months ago and am much happier without the frustration caused from almost every single update since the paint separation update back in the day.  I spend a lot of the time that I used to play Tanki seeking out interesting and exciting music.

To be frank, I wasn't wild about "Initial D - Be My Babe" but I'd sure like to hear more stuff that you like.  Post more stuff.  What else do you game to?  What do you listen to when not gaming?

yeah, i understand, i honestly hate this game, but i keep playing it, because i guess i'm addicted.

I mostly enjoy co-op games (fps etc), online toxicity has driven me away from most pvp games and nowdays i kinda get some anxiety when i try to play one.

but yeah i mostly listen to Eurobeat (this type is the one i linked), but i do enjoy a wide variety of songs that include metal, electro swing (one of my favs) rock, and electronic music in general.
Those were just a few examples, but if i could like any type of music.

So put up a few examples.  All music is good, but we tend to have preferences, so we like, dislike, or are just blah about any particular piece or even genres.   Many times I find that if someone recommends something I will spend some time with it and grow to like  it...even if it wouldn't have been my first choice in music.  "Be My Babe" is a perfect example of how something grows on you after a couple of listens.  I like it now much better because you posted it and I've spent the time to listen to it a few of times now.  So poat more please :)

Very nice.  Great synth tones...mellow.  The guy's voice is raspy but yet smooth.  I like not knowing what the lyrics are about since weak lyrics often ruin the vibe produced by the song itself.  This is a keeper for me and maybe going into Feb's rotation.

The first time I heard this I was put off by the animated video...it seemed like just a cash grab produced by League.  It probably is just a cash grab by League, but the tune has grown on me...a lot...and the video too.  Can cartoons be sexy?  Guess so.  Since I like this now after hearing it quite a few times (familiarity often generates appreciation) and because you posted it in this topic, I'm sticking in my Feb rotation...thanks (hope you still are active in Tanki ...soooo many players have quit).

Damn son, this is destine for a Tarantino film.  Nice...great bass work, simple but so tasty...this is just a seriously well done piece of neo-nostalgia.  Thanks so much for the post...a definite keeper and I intend to explore other offerings from this band.  Brilliant!

D_A_R_K_F_I_N   you turned me on to Skillet several years ago in this topic (well, the archived portion) and this song does not disappoint.  I like how well produced they are with such polish but yet still hold that edge of raspyness.  The call and response of this tune is really effective...just so good overall.

I like this tune.  While not wild for this song upon first listening, when the chorus hit the contrast was big enough that I can tell this song will grow on me and eventually become a real ear worm.  Simple, tasty, catchy, great EDM synth tones, and all around fun stuff.
