It's not February yet so it's not Carnaval, but it is a New Year and I was feeling Brazil-ish.  Daniella Mercury...wow.  I think this is like a TV show or concert of the Ballet Folklorico de Brazil (Spanish, sorry I don't know the Portuguese equivalent)...so colorful, right?

 

And I think I will travel to Rio,

Daniella broke Axe into the mainstream back in the early 90s.   Now it's ubiquitous through out Brazilian music.

Daniella Mercury...the list goes on and on...these are just a few highlights in my opinion.

 

leaving Daniella...Now more party!  Bellini and Nossa, both girl singer/dance groups that have broken into international markets recently...so cute.

Just to give back for these last couple of musical exposure posts, I offer a sublime bit of saxophone-ation jazz with a haunting melodic line and driving backbeat...dig it...dance to it...whirl and spin into oblivion.  Or you could just sing along :)

Listen to this song three times in a row and it will keep playing in your head for a week....guaranz ballbarinz.

 

 

Should you need to rinse the worm, apply this drama directly to your ear holes while keeping your eyes closed.  If the ear worm persists, repeat the procedure.  Not a guaranteed cure, but it should bring some relief at the very least.

I like this much better when I don't read the lyrics and just hear the French syllables.  To me, even though the lyrics might be quite poignant, the actual meaning pales to the music and drama of his vocals in conjunction with the electronic wizardry and other instrumentation.

Definitely my celebrity crush.  We are lucky to live within the time frame of titans of music like these.   Rhiannon Giddens, opera, multi-instrumentalist, musicologist, composer, and a kick ass rocker (well, bluegrasser).  Where do ultra-humans like this come from?    I love this girl...a musician's musician.
