Till Nine Immemorial

Spoiler

The following is a bunch of semi-useless ramblings that may become your life philosophy but probably shouldn’t.

Take the number 1. Simple, right? 1 is among the least complex numbers in the entirety of the Arabic numeric system. Those who speak a descendant of Proto-Germanic employ this system to indicate certain values. But wait. Add a “.” to 1. You end up with “1.”. Still the same number, though to a degree of precision not present in the first. But add a 9 after that decimal point, and you end up with a number that is nearly 2: 1.9. Adding another 9 gives you 1.99. What about 1.999? Guess what? You can continue adding value to the number 1.999 (repeating), but you will never reach 2.

So here’s food for thought: you can always be better, and you can never be perfect. What does this apply to? Literally everything. Writing? Check. Math? Check. Science? Check. Tanki? Check. Life? Check check check.

Ask yourself this question, and answer honestly. Are you a good person? Well first, define “good person.” Perhaps someone who’s on the right side of the moral scale - someone who stands up for what is true and opposes the evil in the world. Now picture yourself, a newborn, as the number 1. Not perfection. Not 2. But you are simple; pure in a sense. Add 9's and take away 9's for every single good and bad deed you’ve done. Told a lie? Take away a 9. Stood up for the lives of the millions of innocent children slaughtered every year at the altar of choice? Add a 9. Now add these 9's and reach your final calculation; I guarantee you that it won’t be two. You’re not perfect, nor can you be. The Morning Star made it impossible.

However, you can definitely try. Maybe it is not the path's destination that matters, but rather the route that is success, for what it's worth.

But perfection is not by any means necessary in all of its impossibility. Were it a just universe, we would all fall into darkness eternal. But fortunately justice is tempered with mercy. We all have our path to perfection.

Have you found it yet?

Article Approved!

A unique, inspirational piece by Initiate. Using 9's as a deep metaphor for life, he reminds us that we, as humans, can never be perfect. However, our aim should still be for the stars. Full potential has yet to be unlocked.

Welcome back!

- Minimal punctuation tweaks. I'd suggest limiting your quite excessive use of hyphens and instead sprinkle in some semi colons

- Other than that, it was a super clean article!
