"Going for Gold" - Parody of Cake's "Going the distance"

Recommended Posts

Eagerly poised, ready to pounce

The drop had been announced

The gold box drops down, their victory cup

Driving and writhing they fight to go up

They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank

Each one eager to test their tank

Reckless, wild, pumped full of zeal

Each one hoping to make the steal

As the gold picks a winner the points go grey

The Wasps drop a bomb, the nubs must pay

The zone is empty except for one Wasp

Still lagging and skipping, unaware of the cost

The match is won and both sides are gone

And long ago that golden box was caught

But he's still driving and spinning

Completely distraught

He's going for gold, he's got the speed

They're all alone (All alone)

In their time of need

Because he's racing and pacing

He's gone off-course

Still riding, and biding, and filled with remorse

He's going for gold

No trophy, no crystals, no gold box, no score

He's haunted by latency that can't be ignored

Finger twitching feelings of rage and regret

Course through his veins as he breaks a headset

On his screen he's still playing, still making a change

They're watching him spin and skip all out of range

'Cause he's racing and pacing, he's gone off-course

Still riding, and biding, and filled with remorse

The match is won and both sides are gone

And long ago that gold box was caught

But he's still skipping and spinning

It's all for naught

Cause he's going for gold, he's got the speed

They're all alone (All alone)

In their time of need

Because he's racing, he's pacing, he's gone off-course

Still riding, and biding, and filled with remorse

He's racing, and pacing, he's gone off-course

Still riding, and biding, and filled with remorse

He's going for gold, he's got the speed

He's going for gold

This poem features all the mixed feelings and different aspects that a tanker goes through and sees when the gold box is being dropped. It was definitely an amazing read and I enjoyed it till the very last word!
