@Spy

That's great. For the meantime, please keep this thread open for as long as possible. Give a chance for players to post reports, images and bugs about Ares in this thread for as long as possible.

Thanks.

@Maf

If the testing for Ares has finished, so why are the other seven hulls in the test servers then? Has the testing been finished a long time ago for all the other hulls?

@Maf Why do you self destruct in html5 after going to garage when you hit pause???

Seems like something broke recently (probably when Ares was added) and the game no longer prevents your tank respawning when you go into the garage right after death. And after you change equipment, your tank automatically self-destructs in order to apply the changes you made. This has been the case ever since equipment changing was added, but we used to be able to bypass the inconvenience and prevent an unnecessary death by changing after we get killed normally. At the moment this is no longer possible (at least on html5, not sure about flash).

For hull alterations, I guess that it would be a good idea to add hovering height alterations which makes the Ares hull hover higher or lower than the current default height.

That would enable players to change the height behaviour level of Ares, without changing any other parameters. What do you folks think?

Hover Hull. Resize image smaller.

Flash is fine no probs apart from the annoying pop up which we do not need. Honestly you really would think the devs would learn lessons from past updates, get it right 1st time and do not introduce it until it has passed every conceivable test they can think of. If it takes longer to apply it to the game ,who cares as long as it works. Thanx for replying quickly by way

Is this permanent?

Please do not delete this image.

I have resized it smaller. Is the size OK now?

No, it's not OK, because your post about the test server is more fitting in the Q&A section, which is where it has been moved and an answer was given. Please do not report it here. You can find your question here:

Like I said — it appears to be a bug. I hope it will be fixed soon and won't be permanent.

I'm playing Ares with Vulcan since it is officially released, which it replaces my Titan. I mostly play CTF and recently Siege, except while trying to complete daily missions which requires me to play in a particular game mode. Here is what I thought about Ares.

Pros

  • Highly maneuverable for a heavy hull since it can move in all directions without turning
  • It's quite fast for a heavy hull (slightly faster than Titan).
  • Its OD works quite well in game modes which enemies/allies tend to cluster together like CTF and Siege.

Cons

  • Quite unstable. A slightly bump from any hulls (even light hulls!!) can ruin your shot. This makes it combo poorly with turrets that has high damage but low firing rate (except those which lock on to target like Gauss and Striker). Yet, since I'm playing Vulcan, this does not affect me that much.
  • It is extremely unresponsive if you try to go to the opposite direction while traveling in one particular direction in full speed. (Try going forward in full speed and immediately attempt to go backward)
  • Horrible power. Seriously, Ares can't push anyone. It has the lowest power in game, even lower than Wasp.
  • OD does not help that much in quite a bit of game modes, especially those which enemies/allies tends to scatter around the map (e.g. TDM).
  • The final explosion of the OD when it hits obstacle defeats the purposes of the OD. Ares is supposed to stay close to its OD in order to receive unlimited healing. While your own OD, your ultimate, your supposedly the best skill, kills you at the end? Seriously?
  • The art style of Ares is leaning more towards the Ultra skins with higher polygon count and more "complex" design (compare to the old models), which some players may find it look weird when pair with some classic turrets.

Ares and Vulcan is a great combo. There might be a drawback with simultaneous manoeuvrability with both Vulcan and Ares. The reason why your Vulcan aiming shots can be ruined is because Ares is a hovering hull. It is perfectly normal for a hovering hull to move from its current location when other hulls makes a collision with it. For that, you need to re-adjust your Vulcan shots. I know that this contradiction is annoying, but there nothing you can do about that. You'll have to roll with that.

You should be able to independently move Ares with your mouse and shoot Vulcan with the spacebar, as well as being able to rotate Vulcan as well if you enable mouse controls in your settings.

The BFG plasma ball overdrive of Ares is fine. I tested it before in the test servers and it works fine for me. You just need to keep your distance from your Ares hull from your enemies to avoid self damage or self destruction. The explosion of the BFG overdrive when hitting a wall is perfectly normal. It is supposed to do just that.

If you micro upgraded an MK8 Ares with 20/20 MU, (maxed up), then you should be able to drive at top speed, being able to drive and follow your BFG plasma ball at the same speed.

@Maf DEMONSTRATED  this in a short vid he made, forgot which topic it was posted in but he did exactly what you described.

I really like your video showcasing your MK2 Ares with your crisis drone.

By the way, your YouTube account channel looks great: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqJFHyJuOo0HjVLGJ3b8d6g/videos

Your real name is Chris Drake on your YouTube channel.

Well thanx for that, i never advertise it because i only made it to do vids of battles. I would think MK7 ares maxed out would be to difficult to control with speed boost on as my crisis is nearly maxed out to. That was a MK2 ares with no upgrades and i just managed to avoid the DA when following the overdrive.

Done a vid myself just now, bought mk2. realllyyyyy slow but kept up because i have crisis drone.

That's why I hate the explosion at the end. Notice you have to stop traveling before firing the orb? That's because if you don't do so, the orb will slowly travel to the ground as Ares is slight tilting to the direction it travels and explode and blow you into pieces. Also, noticed how much damage does the orb done to Ares itself at the end.

I really want devs to remove self damage from the orb (maybe keep the knock back) or simply remove the explosion entirely.

The whole ares thing will take practice and lots of patience, the hardest part is controlling it at speed. Also i think it is hard to adjust your position in regards to an attack from a enemy quick enough to stop being killed easily as opposed if you had a normal hull equipped.

For me, position adjustment is fine, except when someone comes from behind, which the slow rotation speed of both Vulcan and Ares make it very hard to deal with.
