Even as a buyer, I would love Alternativa to somewhat chill down with p2w if possible ( recent update is perfect example of how u can maybe do that ). Problem is that we need to have an ACTIVE discussion and understanding with each other ( developers and the player base ). They need to show us the bigger picture, and to actively talk to us on Forums.

Personally I really don't think Alternativa wants to milk the game, this is the only game they still work on, so if they wanna get money, its better to do that long term then short term. However he is some info regarding money situation at the company. There are currently around 90 employees working at Alternativa ( and we don't know their salaries ), there are 2 offices which need to be kept in check, taxes and bills of the company... etc. So my guess is that Alternativa needs to make around 100k - 150k dollars ( again, my guess ) before any money can be considered as profit. Also i heard that they are planning to advertise the game after HTML5 becomes the standard... that also costs money.

Also regarding player count, most players who left recently are because of bad updates players who left in 2015 / 2016 - 2018 mostly players left because of Flash. Flash usage overall went down from 80% to 8% from 2014 to 2018... and u can guess... that hurt the game. And here is my proof.
Flash usage in Chrome
Sources: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/google-chrome-flash-usage-declines-from-80-percent-in-2014-to-under-8-percent-today/
               https://wccftech.com/chrome-flash-usage-8-2018/
( This graph was published by Google themselves so... )

Only thing I can say at the end is... it's not simple as it sounds... and I actually wish Alternativa showed more care to explain and not just leave everyone in the dark. Those that know about this type of stuff will know what is going on... but the rest...not so much.

I will say this though, I agree with most of your points, and I'm also very glad that someone, especially a veteran tanker has brought the issues of the game to light (hopefully the developers take that into consideration). However, even if the game is mostly composed of buyers these days, and is riddled with terrible updates, I think it's not right to give up on the game. It has unlimited potential, despite many other games of its kind, this one is truly unique, as we can observe from when the game reached huge amounts of players at its peak years.

All I'm saying is, the game does not deserve to die, it is a childhood gem of many alike, and should remain that way for future generations to come.

Feel free to disagree,

Fixed it for ya.

They homogenize the game with every update in order to compete with the other games out there.

Every year it looks more and more like Super Mario Kart.

Not gonna lie I agree, but still it has the potential to return to it's former glory.

I'll allow myself reply to a topic that died already, rather unfortunately because it deserves more attention.

The topic of negative changes is a debate between the majority of players and game staff, players speaking of their experience and staff giving excuses. I have been observing the situation and noticed a large decline in active users after updates such as hull augments, new drones, etc., so I am sure the updates are the reason, especially that I myself and many players I know find them bad.

Unfortunately, this is the bane of the F2P business model — developers keep adding new P2W features so buyers always have something to spend on. The game needs to keep changing even if it is in a perfect state, and over time the overload of forced changes kill it.

Exactly. The company needs to make money from the game somehow, so they can cover all their expenses. If they did not have P2W features, the game would not be here today.

Perhaps. Business model can be changed over time, though. Alternativa could try to get stable income by focusing more on customization options, but apparently they decided they want to get as much money as they can right now instead of investing in the game's future. Many players do not notice this, but those who do are unlikely to buy anything especially since the prices have risen so much.

Yeah, possibly. However, they could not do a lot of things with the Flash version of the game, which limited their ideas. Now, since HTML5 came out recently, they can add a lot of those ideas that they had a long time ago. With HTML5, the ideas are endless. When Ares came out, the developers did say that they have wanted to have some type of hovering hull for a long time now, but Flash version of the game would not let it happen. That is why they recommend you play with the hovering hulls on HTML5 now vs Flash.
