Mouse or Keyboard Aiming?

  1. 1. Which method of turret aiming do you prefer? Do you use the Mouse controls or the Keyboard controls?

Pretty sure that the majority is using keyboard controls, but mouse controls are way superior in my opinion. First, because it's just a more natural kind of aiming, since probably the majority of games uses mouse controls for aiming. And second, the amount of information you can gather with it is far superior to information gathering on keyboard controls, since you can look around 360° whenever you want. You can then also block unnecessary turret movements with the right click, in order to save some time and be ready to shoot again quicker. Mouse controls get you on a whole new level if you're able to master them

Mouse. Except if you're using rail, it's so dependent on being precisely the right angle it's too easy to lose the aim for me, and I suspect being able to maintain a given turn angle as with keyboard makes it easier.

I started with Keyboard and I always played with that until my old pc broke. My new one had a ghosting problem with the keyboard, and due to me being a massive cheapskate, instead of buying a new gaming keyboard, I re-learned the game and adapted to Mouse controls.

Man it was hard, I couldn't aim for the life of me, so I practiced first with melee turrets, then with Twins, and finally I was able to return to Thunder and Railgun.

In the end, I must say that Mouse controls are way, way superior to Keyboard, I can't even return to play with the old method if I wanted to.

You can lock the turret and look around, make precise movements, and an important thing, adjust the camera angle with the mouse wheel, which I find way more comfortable then having to use Pag up and down.

I've been using keyboard controls since 2011, but switched to mouse in August, as soon as Ares came out and I started using it. Since I now almost exclusively use hover hulls, I use mouse most of the time. With other hulls I still prefer keyboard controls, though I don't mind using mouse and sometimes don't bother switching to keyboard for one short battle.

Hover hulls are definitely far better with mouse, though there's a fairly serious issue where the turret has a weird rubber band effect and turns beyond your camera position, then stops and turns back to the proper position. Devs are aware of this issue and I believe they said they'll fix it, but until it happens I'm forced to use rapid fire turrets with mouse controls so that it won't be a huge issue when I miss a shot because of this.

The Shaft keyboard scope issue is extremely annoying, and I sympathise with players, who are being forced to use mouse controls if they wish to play Shaft. I strongly disagree with devs' decision to not fix that issue. On the other hand, I find Shaft to be quite effective with mouse controls, so perhaps my recommendation would be to use Shaft only in combination with hover hulls for the time being.

Same scenario for me. I had chosen exactly this laptop since it had to meet certain requirements for the study I was going to do. I have little to no knowledge about laptops and technology. When I discovered mine had anti-ghosting programmed on it, I decided to learn mouse-controls so that I could still play this game. At first, I had troubles getting used to it and I even took a seperate keyboard to plug in whenever I wanted to game. After a while, I finally got the hang of using my mouse effectively. I mainly used Thunder back in the days, so playing with mouse was experienced more consistent.

Mouse controls are, from my experience, superior to keyboard-controls. Aiming feels more controlled and precise; you can get a quicker overview of surroundinds without having to turn your turret or hull; your tank is always aimed forwards so you do not need to adjust your turret to your sight; also, being able to shoot, turn your tank and adjust your vision with one hand is more controlled than having to move each of your fingers across the keyboard.
Plus, it feels more natural and comfortable to use, mostly since other games rely on mouse-controls as well. I could never return to solely keyboard.

Fun fact: since I became clever with mouse-controls, I decided to buy Shaft to try out my new skills. That's how I got to play with Shaft and got to be an excellent sniper, and how I got to be member of the greatest sniper-group in this game

I started using mouse controls around a month ago and I am doing pretty well. I have to say mouse has so many advantages and I would recommend it to everyone.

With mouse you can maintain the exact direction you're aiming in, so I think that's not a problem. Mouse controls are better. The only niche advantage keyboard controls have us that you can adjust your aim a bit quicker because you only have to press a key.

Other than that, mouse has crucial advantages:

  1. 360 view
  2. You can aim before you rotate your turret when firing spinshots, making them more accurate
  3. Your turret will automatically readjust if someone knocks off your aim — reaction time only affects hull movements in this situation.

On the last point, someone could say you could overcome reaction time by judging where exactly your opponent wants to hit your hull. But realistically a player can change where they are aiming right before the shot, and shooting hitting tank corners is just random luck if your opponent is moving (due to lag, even the slightest PING can make it like that, not to mention 50 or 90 PING).

I used to use keyboard controls, and now use mouse controls, which I think are superior. The only situation in which keyboard players might have an edge is when playing turrets with a high rate of fire like Striker and Smoky at long ranges. In this situation you need to make a lot of small adjustments in a short period of time to hit shots immediately after reloading and keyboard controls are better at those fine adjustments.
