Does Tanki support the usage of VPNs and/or proxies? Do I need to contact tech support if I choose to use such service to prevent possible ban; as I do not have a fixed IP-address anymore it may appear that my account is being shared (violating the game's rules).

EDIT: I am still a newbie when it comes to technology/programs etc., so this may be a stupid question - yet I want to be sure of the actions I am undertaking

Yes you can use VPN. I'm not sure but I think you need to contact first tech support and tell what kind of server you will use.

I am using the browser Opera. It appears to work fine: I can enter the shop, even though it should have been cancelled as of today. Should I inform tech-support about this as well?

Maybe. Just inform them to be sure

I had that question too. i emailed to tanki online and will share it with you.
Here's the email I received from support:

Hello.
Using of VPN is not prohibited. we recommend to choose the servers  '' located in one country ''

^^ this is it. but i think you should choose a permanent city in the choosen country. for example if you choose poland, choose 1 server that you will always play on.

Imma send them a message about Opera anyways, and see their response. I'll notify when I get an answer

By the way - my country (the UK), the EU and USA are all looking into banning lootboxes. So when a lootbox ban for these countries comes (and it will), will they ban us all?

Banning EU and US would mean cutting a substantial revenue part for Alternativa. I doubt they can afford it. So why not just fix loot boxes issue now for BE/NL? I guess couple reasons:

  • The plan for replacing loot boxes is not ready yet. Simply removing them would hurt Alternativa's bottom line.
  • Devs have been busy preparing for the Holidays season

But as other countries progress towards banning loot boxes, Alternativa would have no choice but comply and adjust. At that point BE/NL ban could be lifted.

I guess that "Big reminder" in the announcement is a direct hint about using vpn/proxies to circumvent IP ban.

I am already a few days on VPN , always on German- Frankfurt Am Mein , i made it my favorite so it just straight connects to there . I did not get any msg anymore from discontinue or shop closing or anything like that . My client thinks i'm in Germany , which is fine by me . Ping is only marginally higher  , not noticeable in any way.

I am not sure if this was added recently, but I found this line in the Tanki EULA

Quote

19.5. The User acknowledges and accepts that the Game is not a game of chance, a game for money, a contest or a bet. The purchase of a Digital Content is the realization of its own will and desire and is not necessary for the use of the Game according to this Agreement.

. . . which seems to directly concern Dutch gambling law.

Apparently gameplay stops in The Netherlands and Belgium on 2021/01/01.

Is there a way to avoid this when living in one of those countries ? I tried Tor, but the main page won't load.

Any suggestions are welcome.

There is no way to 'avoid' the discontinuation unfortunately.

If you want to continue playing, you can consider using a VPN. You will have to look into this some more if you are interested.

As you are Dutch (I assume), you may be interested in the Dutch sub-forum where we discuss this situation as well

Many wrong decisions by Tanki developers made people leave and not refill with new ones . The loss of income they compensated by make it more p2w . more people lost so made it more p2w , .... after that circle broken since too much people left already and they started adding idiotic creations , off course for more money .

Tanki bosses got no idea why people play the game and just ruined it . This is in nowhere what Tanki used to be , and why people played . Most people i know stay because they just are inside and got account(s) already , a habbit or addiction or whatever you want to call it .

They missed the train on how to attract people and why people liked the game , many people equals more people more people wanting to buy something . Now they want all players to buy everything ... which simply doesn't work .

The hardcore base is still there and many will stay till the bitter end , like me . I took a VPN for keep on playing this game , i got too much invested ( meaning time , blood sweat and tears ) to get where i am now . I am not changing game till they pull the plug on it all together . I am sezze100 and i am damn proud of the account and the clan i got .

As there are roughly 5 hours left til 2021 - I think 8hrs till server restart - the countdown to discontinuation has begun. I'll post an update about the situation tomorrow ?

Strange ... my post has disappeared ... apparently there are serious glitches not only in the game, but in the forum as well (

reposting:

Years ago there was a storm in  the forum about a potential complete shutdown of TO Flash and starting the game from scratch on the, then promissing, Unity engine.

Then TO officialy declared (quote from Semyon Kirov):

"Guys, let me make one thing very clear — NOBODY intends to spit into players' faces.

It will either be a complete transfer of current progress, or as many goodies as possible for old players.

You guys helped Tanki get to where it is today, so we will not let you down.

Rest assured "

A lot of time has passed already, unfortunately the devs have changed and now their current statement would have looked like:

"Guys, let me make one thing very clear — WE ALL intend to spit into players' faces.

There will be no complete transfer of current progress, nor any goodies for the old players.

You guys helped Tanki get to where it is today, yet we will let you down.

We don't care about you."

ok so as I am speaking right now, I can still play Tanki Online with no any disturbances while not using a VPN. I do not know for how long I can continue playing on normal browsers without any extensions, because it is still anticipated that discontinuation will take place so far

I think it was a conscious decision to transform the old Tanki that we loved into a new game geared towards mobile. Everybody has a smartphone nowadays, right? So why not make a separate game? I guess TankiX demonstrated that strategy is not gonna work. So devs decided to sacrifice the old Tanki and gradually remade it into what we have now. For sure they knew it's gonna piss-off lot of players. But hey, it's their business and they are free to run it as they wish. Once devs disabled Flash I quit. Primarily because they did not make any effort to make that crappy new UX half as usable as Flash was. I would like to wish Tanki well but since I'm in the pissoff camp I wish them go to hell :azn:

You overestimate the incompetence of the devs )

Alas, the TO devs are really not quite the best in the industry - for example indeed Flash was way, way ahead in terms of usablility and there is no comparison to the choppy HTML with its absolutely awful interface.

Yet, regarding the platforms - it is clear that if TO gears towards a phone/tablet game, it will soon fade out - the veteran generation of PCers will likely quit and new mobilers will hardly come to a refurbished old project !

Tanki has been conceived as a computer game and this cannot be changed, it is a team based PC game, not a casual shooter, and it is NOT possible to be played normally on a mobile device ... you do need a big screen to assess the details of the map and how the round is going and then to be able to duly perform your duties in the party !

I use a 35 inch monitor and just cannot imagine how can one get a proper view on the situation and hence be of any help to its team, if having a smaller screen ... 20 would be the very minimum, I guess ... and tablets are excluded by default !

So, the devs may try to get a piece of the moblie market, but with the case of TO this is going to remain an exotic version of the game, attracting some kids for a while, but it will never be able to build up a solid and dedicated players base, as it is with the PC original !

Screen size definitely is a factor. Though modern gadgets have nice screens with very decent resolution and kids with sharp eyes can feel pretty comfy there. But IMO the PC controls is what makes or breaks the game experience. There is just no way to substitute 10 fingers with 2 and no ares can fix that.
