Malware on my PC through downloading Tanki

 Share

Question

Hi. I'm not entirely sure what kind of a response I will get here, nut I thought I ought to let people know, or get an answer to this issue about something that happened today. Here's the story:

I already had Tanki installed on my PC but when I restarted my computer, it had been removed from my task bar and would give me an error message if I tried to open it. I quickly deleted Tanki from my computer and attempted to re-install it. When I clicked the download button on the main page, the game would start downloading, but would display the message 'download failed' once it had finished. I thought nothing of it at the time and tried again in a few hours and to my surprise I found it had worked the second time. When I searched my downloads to find the setup, there was nothing there, and I later got a message from my AntiVirus stating that malware had entered my computer through the Tanki setup. I don't know whether this is a false alert, scam, or Tanki trying to infect our computers in a last hope to get as much money as they can xD I have tried to attach a photo but I'm not sure whether it has worked or not, as it doesn't show up. Any responses would be helpful :)

There are two possible things that might have happened to your PC.

1. You have downloaded Tanki that might have virus for some reason (Likely not)

2. You have previously downloaded a file that had a virus. The scammers make the virus seem like it's Antivirus, but it actually a virus.

Note: If you have not previously installed a secure and reliable Antivirus, most likely it's the 2nd situation. If you have not installed Anitvirus, I would only trust Windows Defender.

It might not be the best help, sorry if this is kind of comfusing. If you can, please try to attach a screenshot.

Tanki is surely not malware. It's either your antivirus acting weirdly, or you had some malware before installing Tanki.

What kind of antivirus software do you have installed?

By the way, you don't even need any antivirus nowadays. Just use your common sense, your PC will never get infected then. Windows Defender is enough for the "normal" stuff

- Check if your antivirus is legit and its reputation. or get a new one of the famous antivirus.

- It is possible your computer is infected with a virus that attaches itself with executable files. clean your pc

Possible solution: scan pc with Malwarebytes

Note: if not solved. share name of antivirus and operating system.
