Why was Tanki X scrapped?

I hope this question doesn't get deleted, because I seriously just want to know why a better "next-gen" game was thrown away for an older game.

At the expense of sounding pretentious, I consider myself one of the older original players of this game. My family came to the U.S in the summer of 2007, and I started the 2nd grade. So my 2007-2008 school year, I attended 2nd grade, and then the 2008-2009 school year I attended 3rd grade. I know for a fact that I started playing Tanki Online during the summer break after the finishing up 3rd grade because my family went to Disney World that summer and I found about Tanki Online when I got back from Disney Land. So I started playing Tanki Online in the summer of 2009; and Wikipedia shows that the game was released on June 4, 2009. So yeah, I've been playing for a long time. Played all through elementary school, middle school, and high school; Tanki online has been a part of my life for 9 years. Everyday I came home and started playing until bed, I LOVED this game.

When Tanki X was being released, I was super excited. I was part of the beta testing, and when when I played it on the first day, I was in awe, this would be the next step for Tanki X. Was Tanki Online good? Even awesome? Yes, but Tanki X was the next step.
Just like GTA San Andreas was great, but GTA 5 is the newest and current.
Just like The Elder Scrolls Oblivion was great; but Skyrim is the latest.
Just like Fallout 3 is an all time great, but we moved on to Fallout 4

And it doesn't even have to be video games; Car manufactures start a new generation of vehicles when the old generation is obsolete, now matter how good they were, change has to come.

And that is why I was so shocked when the developers stopped working on Tanki X. It felt like a step back, or better yet, staying in the same place. Yes, Tanki Online is great, but Tanki X was the next thing. I know when the developers scrapped Tanki X, they said something like "the online gaming market is too competitive, so we dont have enough manpower to work on both Tanki Online AND Tanki X, so we'll get rid of Tanki X" something like that. But my question is why didn't they get rid of Tanki Online and build on Tanki X?

When Tanki X was introduced, I was really excited too. But after trying Tanki X for awhile I didn't feel like leaving Tanki Online, a game I was already familiar with and I really enjoyed, for something very similar with updated graphics. I assume that many players thought the same.

As to why they didn't get rid of Tanki Online and build on Tanki X - I would say that after spending a lot of resources and time on Tanki X, the developers did not get the expected results (e.g player base, money etc..). Thus, they decided to stick with Tanki Online, which was already more popular.

In essence to what spy has already said;

A) It was originally intended that the Tanki Online player base would be shifted to Tanki X and their progress would be stored. Hence, players would get a chance to continue on their accounts on a new system. Consider this as working for an international company and they transfer you to a new office in another country. However, during development, it became evident that this is not possible. They can not transfer the player base and any one excited for Tanki X, would have to start from scratch. This is as far as I know.

B) They tried to keep both of the projects alive. Even though the developers rendered great efforts for Tanki X, they could not obtain sufficient audience, resulting in the project costing them more to maintain financially.

C) At that point, they closed Tanki X and not Flash because compared to TX, TO actually had a better audience with many ancient players (like me) refusing to move to Tanki X. It became clear that if they shut TX, players from that version would make their way to TO but if they close TO, then they would loose a significantly higher audience who would NOT make their way to TX.

Based on these reasons, they closed TX and not TO. This is as far as I have known and figured.

I tried Tanki X in its first days, it was a very nice and awesome for me. Sadly my Laptop at that time couldn't run Tanki X, I was very lagging, so I stopped playing there and stayed just in Tanki. By the way, I bought a new Laptop, then I remembered Tanki X suddenly, but when I tried to download it I zapped it's closed.

I think most of Tanki players didn't have an equivalent PC to run the high consumed resources games like GTA5, or simply didn't love the complicated games, just want a simple tanks game. Tanki is a light for PC and easy without complication. TankiX's players-base mostly from TankiOnline for sure, I think most of them in that time wasn't with an equivalent PC to run such a game.

And the real PC gamers, mostly love to play in Overwatch, GTA5, and high resources games. Those games have an incredibly graphics, and required a strong PC. Real PC gamers love games with WASD - Mouse control, Tanki until now (and forever) Keyboard is superior, and that what I accustomed and every tanki player. But for real gamers it's a horrible, they didn't accustomed with Keyboard just want WASD+Mouse. And if you noticed, that approximately every game for gamers (like GTA5) represent a real human character, contradiction to Tanki that it's just a tank. So the real gamers have the same experience with WASD-Mouse and a real human character in every game, so it's an easy thing for them to move from game to game, but they zapped with Tanki that everything is reversed.

I think it's some a noobness from them as they couldn't get accustomed with Tanki controls and every new game they played are the same (real character - WASD-Mouse). And if they found me that I play with Arrows instead of WASD, I think they consider this is just some a children under 10yrs that haven't grow up to notice that WASD is better. Though I play with WASD in every game, but in Tanki I assume that Arrows is way superior.

So in conclusion, Tanki players loves Tanki and their PCs couldn't run Tanki X (especially in 2016), and the real gamers didn't love a game that depend on keyboard.

Btw, so you guys seeing Tanki last time trying desperately to convert the game to like the other games by changing everything to simulate most of the other games. That's really hurt the Tanki players, like MM, etc... actually I have many examples but I'm lazy to rememorize them now.

TX was doomed as soon as the Devs decided to cancel the transfer of accounts from TO to the new game.

It was also incredibly stupid to keep both games online, investing resources on TO and TX, plus dividing the already small playerbase.

That being said, TX was a way better game then TO, with a huge potential that will never see any future.

@Sarfaraz_K To sum it up Tanki X didn't have many players and the was almost no buyers in the game. In the end they didn't make enough money to keep the servers running much less to pay developers to improve the game with new updates or items which was really noticable when they started recycling old skins or ammunitions with just slapping animation effects on them and try to sell them at high prices.

If you are still a fan of the game I have archived everything about it here if you haven't already known https://en.tankiwiki.com/Tanki_X we also made a fan server to archive about it when it closed if you're still interested. https://discord.gg/yYEgRqU

10k buyers ? or 100k players with no buyers ? what is preferable ? can anyone say

100k players with no buyers is infinitely better than 10k buyers. 100k non buyers allows new players to get into a game without there being a paywall in the way of gameplay. 10k buyers means that any new players are quickly dissuaded from coming back.

100K players, but they must need to quickly fix the game in less than one day to make a constant revenue. Or they will be at a hard loses as 100k players needs a strong servers to bear them + the developers fees and headquarter leases and electric cost.

This is the actual reason for it being scrapped

Dear friends!

On behalf of all former team of the game and Alternativa Games we had to tell you about some sad but expected news.

Each story ends one day and it is time to say goodbye to TX.

There are a lot of reasons for that, the main one is that PC gaming market is too competitive and overloaded and it is not possible to make the game popular not only in Russia but abroad as well. As a result, we made a difficult decision – concentrate our efforts on other areas. In general, we would like to mention that the game has come a long way and stayed alive for 3 years during which we have released a lot of cool features.

We know that you were worried about the fate of the project with us — thanks for that! Thanks for warm support, fiercely criticising and for cheering for TX. Thanks for all «The battles of corporations», for all your game related creativity in contests and not only in contests, for competition in ratings and spirit of competition, for bug reports and persistence in solving problems. We hope that you have found a lot of friends in the game and have received a lot of positive emotions!

What happens next

Starting today, we will disable some game services and websites. However, game servers will be available until the start of 2020 so you will have time to play for your own amusement. You can use this promo codes to buy items which you wanted to buy, premium account and X-crystals:
