Map Ideas?

Monkey, your landscaping skills are amazing! However, I think it's really pretty without the tanks. My impression of your map was that it was created with aesthetics in mind, and less of practical sniping and positions for tanks.

as all of the maps are made for fun - its not really possible to make a map that is perfect for tanki without testing (once u play a map u can make adjustments for gameplay). Also, putting in the detail required for actual gameplay when the maps are made, as i said for fun - is time consuming. its just pointless to go into that much effort. so i make the maps as an idea, or a concept. the last map - egypt was the concept. if i were to make the map for real it would take weeks or months and a lot of testing....

Nice map Monkey. However, like Monkey said, maps cannot be known whether they are good for gameplay until after they are tested. Some of the best-looking maps are the worst for gameplay.

@Monkey:

You made this!? Where did you get the designs for the buildings? Your mapmaking skills are as good as your taste of music is bad.

I dont really know how to upload a image so ill just explain it.

2 big building roofs like far away from eachother.

3 bridges connecting to the towers.

1 connects to the middle.

the other goes over.

and the last one goes under.

There is a hole in the side which connects to the bottom bridge.

And there is 2 ramps make an upside down V but with a flat top to connect to the top bridge.

The towers have a big width to fit a big team there.

I hope u like the idea and all comments are appreciated, Plus if u could probaly draw dis then i would be sooo happy :D

Stecky and Monkey Magic are clearly the class of this group of map makers. The rest of the maps look like they were conceived by a 5 year old with a set of architectual blocks.

How we get these two to become map makers, they have some very good, and very well thought out ideas of both urban terrain and fantasy / themed settings.

I agree that their maps are superior. However, did you bother to ask them how long they spent on those maps? I could make something just as good if I actually had five hours to spare, and so could Superkid or anyone else.

why dont you spread the time over a few days or weeks? then you could show us some of these awesome maps you could make?

anyway here is my latest one. was thinking of a new type of game 'defend the flag'. not sure how the scoring could work, but the team in the castle has to defend the flag (or flags) for a given amount of time to win!

Hi there, I have a few good ideas for maps so please take the time to read through them :

1. Wake island Map- What it will look like is pretty self explanatory, tanks could start on the ends of the island and move inward, attacking one another. You could add a fort or something similar to the center of the map to make it even more interesting.

2. Yellowstone- It has come to my attention that no maps of the alien lands of Yellowstone National park or in Iceland have been made yet. I was thinking, a semi-flat area with potholes that tanks can get stuck in all over. A few trees and some large rocks may be in the middle to provide cover. On either side of this area would be some grassy woodlands on hills, where snipers could hide in the trees and destroy advancing tanks.

3.Operation: Asphalt- This would be a nice map for winter and summer, and in tanki 2.0, it would be cool at night. The idea would be that a large highway, littered with cars and tanks, would cross the map diagonally. Each team would be on one side of this highway. About 3 roads would cross the highway from left to right littered with more vehicles for cover. In the grass areas without asphalt over them, one may find large rocks to hide behind or a gas station to find a sneaky ambush spot. A super market or small village could also be a nice touch. To cross the median in the highways players would have to use small ramps or broken parts of the said median. Another idea to cross the median is have one of the intersecting roads use a bridge.

Thank-you for taking the time to read this. Let me know how it sounds, or if I sound crazy right now. :wink:

I just drew a picture of the Yellowstone map.

Green=Trees

Yellow=health,armor, etc

Grey/Black=Potholes and cliffs

Brown= Buildings

Red/Blue=Flag positions

Programm for making maps. Alternativa 3d if I'm not mistaken.

so, once 2.0 comes out, all map making will be done in this program. i understand that part. my question is how do people go about sending in maps to be looked at? could they take the sketchup model (.skp) and essentially transfer the map into alternativa? or would they have to start from scratch in alternativa? i tried to make my maps as designer-friendly as possible. keeping all doors/windows/floors the same dimensions.

would be a total rebuild. the tanki maps are made of components from a library.
